From Michael Carayannis at DT.

Wests Tigers player of the year David Nofoaluma may have to consider putting himself onto the open market after receiving a contract offer from the club this week.

Nofoaluma has made it clear his first preference is to remain at the Tigers but the 26-year-old concedes he will now open himself up to speak with rival clubs.

“I obviously love the Wests Tigers and the fans, you can tell by my passion.” Nofoaluma said. “But in reality, I am heading into what could potentially be my last contract.

“I am going to explore all my options and weigh up what’s the best decision for myself and more importantly my future. I know with whatever decision I make, I can say I’ve given one hundred per cent every time I have stepped foot on the field for this club.”

Nofoaluma is coming off the best season of his career. Most pundits thought he was unlucky to miss out on the NSW Origin squad and he was easily the Tigers most consistent player scoring 17 tries in 20 games. Nofoaluma is officially a free agent with his current deal expiring at the end of next year. The Tigers tabled a three year deal to him this week

The Campbelltown product has been a rare shining light for the Tigers and is one of the club’s favoured sons given the recent departures of Robbie Farah, Chris Lawrence and Benji Marshall.

“There is no rush but I have my manager (Sam Ayoub) taking care of everything.” Nofoaluma said. “It would be extremely tough to leave but at the moment I have one more year remaining on my current contract and I will respect that. I’m back at training next week. I’ve really missed it and so I’m looking forward to ripping back into it with the boys and doing what I love.

“My contract situation will look after itself.”

Barring injury Nofoaluma should become the greatest Wests Tigers tryscorer next year. He sits 10 short of Marshall and Lawrence having scored 74 tries from 139 matches.

The potential loss of Nofoaluma would be a cruel blow to the Tigers given the public fallout between the club and prop Josh Alolai who is still inching towards a move to Manly.

Surely we can’t lose Nofa. Probably just trying to bump his price up a little - which means we shouldn’t even bother with him according to some people on here ?

I'm in the extreme minority here but I wouldn't be too upset if he left.

I’d be upset but could understand it if he’s asking for huge dollars. Just sounds like he wants more money to me, we’ll have to see what happens. His manager would know tigers have a lot of cap room in 2022 and wants to take advantage

It’s a simple concept with Nofoaluma. We offer him X dollars . He goes to market , other team offers him Y , he comes back and asks us to match it . We either do or we don’t . It should be a simple negotiation. These players over complicate things with their crap , and egos .

And greedy managers

Boy I hope we’ve got some big targets lined up for 2022. Though to me it’s becoming pretty evident that we’re looking to build the club up by developing young players and taking a chance on risky players as we can’t attract any big names. Hoping to all that is holy that all the money we have available in the next 2 seasons can be used for some superstars or potential superstars. I’d still be on the phone to Harry Grant every day regardless of what’s happening with Melbourne

Absolutely, and then the player decides whether they stay with us for x, or go to another club for slightly more.

There’s no reason why X doesn’t move when they come back with the alternate offer eg. We offer 480k manly offer 600k , we say that’s a bit rich but we will go to 520k . And Nofa has a decision on his hands at that point .

The biggest disappointment for me if Nofo signs with another club is we could have secured JAC by releasing Nofo to the Storm this year.
Sliding doors moment.

I would doubt if Nofo wanted to go to the storm and you cant force him to go,this is Australia not USA

In regard to Nofoaluma

He is a passionate first grade footballer who does give 100 percent each week.
But there has to a limit to what you offer a player who still has flaws in his game, The board need to look around at other wingers Of his quality to find out what he is worth and if he doesn’t believe what we offer him to be enough than that’s All they can do.

What's the (almost) leading try scorer in the NFL worth?

That would be Derrick Henry from Tennessee Titans. 3rd for total touchdowns last year. Earns $12.5 million per year.

Seriously ? Like 15 million a year . NFL is different . Receivers are judged on a variety of things . Catches and Yards, are usually the / metrics that decide whether a player is good or not . Touchdowns are usually the third thing mentioned , not the first .
