Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

MCK was briefly off to the Dogs but it fell through after Pay, maybe that was the final straw

He’s got bench utility value but not much more I’d have thought

Even that’s being pretty generous.

He seems well liked by the team, so there’s that

We currently have 5 second rowers, with two of these being Seyfarth and the kid promoted from the development squad. Other than that we have Luci, Garner & Blore
I reckon we need two more unless we have somehow transformed the two inexperienced guys into starters which feels unlikely

Seyfarth is a prop/ lock.

But yes with mck included we still only have 4 second rowers in the squad

As a vocal critic of the club on a number of fronts, I have to say good decision to not chase Mansour, ageing wingers are a no go zone.

Hope he finds a new club and finishes his career well but not here.

I still think he has plenty to offer a club. He was still one of the top wingers last season. In reality Mansour would be a walk up start in our 17 if we signed him.

In saying all that I think not chasing him is the right decision. It’s a definite risk as I see AJ as our only option to start the season. I’m happy to back him in though. He looks a real talent.

The mighty Chee-Kam is in a contract year..expect he to be pushing for Origin..

Agree. Supporters of the decision makers on this forum are telling us to back the youth policy, we’ve already signed Tamou, it’s now time to spend some coin on some consistent NRL players with a few more tomorrow’s to help these youngsters learn what the pros is all about. Mansour is good but this contract is his superannuation policy.

Why make comments like “supporters of the decision makers youth policy “? It’s so passive aggressive .
Can I ask guys who bag the club on a consistent basis what’s your brilliant plan?

Agree with that. But if we did sign him I’d have absolutely no fear about him using us as a retirement home as so many before him have.

He doesn’t seem like that sort of character and he’s definitely not that sort of player. No matter where he ends up I have no doubt he’ll give everything he’s got.

Bad recruitment decisions have burned the Wests Tigers in the past and after withdrawing interest in Josh Addo-Carr, the club is prepared to hold fire in the NRL market.
Despite being linked to unwanted Penrith star Josh Mansour as a replacement for the NSW and Australia star, it's understood the Wests Tigers are not interested.
Although the Tigers could secure the 30-year-old Mansour on a cut-price deal for 2021, the risk of losing rising talent appears too big.
Mansour is contracted for around $500,000 next year but has been told by the Panthers he will be playing reserve grade, with the club to pay some of his salary should another club sign him for 2021.
However, the Tigers are understood to have no appetite to block the path of rising stars Tommy Talau and Asu Kepaoa by signing another winger.
Despite club favourite David Nofoaluma testing the NRL market for a bigger contract at the end of next season, the Tigers are confident of re-signing him.
That would leave just one spot on the wing for Kepaoa and Talau to fight for in 2021, with both considered rising stars of the game.
The Tigers have been burned in the past by not holding onto young players with talent - letting Ryan Papenhuyzen, and ironically, Addo-Carr slip through their grip to join Melbourne.
Both have since established themselves as two of the hottest talents in the NRL, earning premierships and representative honours with the Storm.
The Tigers are not willing to make the same mistakes again as they look to overturn a nine-year semi-finals drought in 2021.
Without Addo-Carr the Tigers are short a fullback in 2021 with Moses Mbye and Adam Doueihi the two options.
However, they are still hopeful Daine Laurie will be released by the Panthers for the upcoming season.

This is the reason why we should avoid Mansour/Widdop type players that take the spots of some talent coming through, and sends the wrong message to any youngster that want a chance at NRL here.

I think if Packer is injury free, then he may have a good year for us, it is contract year, but the $’s he got from us via Ivan are not ever going to happen again.

Dream on

Packer won't see FG unless Tamou, Musgrove, Joe O, Mikaele and Twal go down with injury. Hell, Seyfarth will see more FG than Porker.

Not really sure about Mansour, but we do have a problem on the left wing unless **Kepaoa suddenly learns how to catch**. Talau is too slow for the wing IMO.

As it stands now whoever is on that left wing will be heavily targeted and lack of experience on the left wing cost us both games against Souths this year IMO.

I’m sure they’ll be working with Kepaoa on that over the off season.

Let’s hope he can improve. I’d love to be wrong and he kills it next year.
