I don’t believe we are paying this amount. That is crazy money. I still think he is overpaid but I doubt he is on that much. That could be JAC & Nofo taking our wing spots.
Mbye to me is a better than average player but he hasn’t performed at that level to us. I also think we’ve got him on over 500k which isn’t fair value.

I understood MBye was being paid in the region of $900k.

The last 2 seasons the Dogs have tipped in $175k of that - 2021 is the first year we pay the entire salary out of our own cap.

Thats how I understood the arrangement to be.

If that the situation ..... then it’s a priority to move him on ASAP.
No value in whatever capacity there ..... that’s 10% of our cap and only 1/4M less than what Tedesco just resigned for.
If we do manage to move him .... we will still be heavily penalised for next two years as no one will take him unless we subsidise heavily.

Unless we have a replacement ready, I don’t see the point of replacing him or Packer now for 2021, Packer is gone after next season (unless he has a blinder and certainly not on current $’s) and haven’t both been tried to be moved on with no takers?

Packer needs a big year if he is any hope of getting a contract anywhere the year after.

I believe from what was mentioned at the time of signing that it was a 4 year $3m deal but that the Dogs were kicking in $175k in each of 2019 & 2020

That would make the cost to the Tiges of $575k in each of 2019 & 2020, increasing to $750k in each of 2021 & 2022

These figures make a lot more sense. It's overs but it's not as bad as some of the other contracts we've had mainly because you can use him somewhere on the field. His versatility is also really good in a squad of players because you could play him anywhere in the backline and at hooker.

His salary is going to drop in half though at the end of this contract unless he gets lucky. He really needs a good season for himself. You don't pay a quality bench utility $750k. That is a really good fullback or half or whatever. That is way less than Latrell and JAC will earn.

We seem to judge people based on whatever rumoured figures they’re on.

Well, judging players based on how much salary cap they use is the most sensible way of doing so. And since we don't have publicly available figures we're forced to go on rumours/reports.

I mean, I tend to agree that Mbye isn't an awful player. It's just that if he's chewing up nearly a million dollars of cap je's an absolute catastrophe. Mbye on 300k, whatever - he's an average to good centre making about market rate for that. Mbye on 950k is an ok centre plus a winning bid for Josh Addo-Carr.

It's OK to judge a signing by that figure if you wish but not a player. Mbye has done a decent job in whatever position we have thrown him in. He trained all pre-season at hooker last year! He played maybe 2 games at fullback and the rest at centre. Next year he's likely to be our starting fullback again.

Hey Blake, its like an old song ,They go together like a horse and carriage - you can;t have on without the other.Good teams need a good 1/2, for a half to perform he needs a good team.

Key word is could, what do we do if that changes to can't?

AD is our 6 , Mbye is the backup . Especially if we get Laurie . We will have Gebbie as the back up fullback with All the other backs mentioned previously . We have an experienced backup half , his name is Moses Mbye

If there is no Laurie then Mbye is the fullback, Gebbie is looking at a development contract. If we don't get Laurie we need another option at fullback of 5/8th.
