Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Perhaps Tommy wasn’t keen to live in Melbourne?
Who says we will chuck him anywhere.
Heard this story over and over on this forum .... and it’s getting bit tiresome. If Madge wants him he will be here ... so weep away.
And by the way my money is on Nofa staying ..... and if mansour signs with us he will be one of first picked on opposite wing. ........ and He won’t be blocking anyone that deserves a first grade spot.

Mansour to WTs to be announced in the next few days. Source is good

Laurie included? Any idea of contract length

Yes mate, Laurie included. Not sure on the contract length. Will post on here when I find out

Interesting backline with plenty of experience (and some youth/ speed) for 2021 potentially if this does happen:

1 Laurie
2 Mansour
3 BJ Leilua
4 Roberts
5 Nofo
6 Doueihi
7 Brooks

Mbye will definitely be bench.

I’m struggling with three things.

1. Why wouldn’t the tigers discuss Tommy as an option as for a trade with JAC early on the piece when they aren’t going to play him in fist grade.

2. Would they chuck Laurie in at fullback, untested with Mbye as a reserve straight away? Surely it would be the other way around with Laurie starting on the bench and replacing May gradually.

3. Would they really take on mansour who is ageing, on a decent contract, blocking youth (including Talau) similar player to our other winger and a player who wants a longer contract, just to get a rookie a year earlier when he plays the same position as our highest paid player?

My guess is (a) mansour is a replacement for nofa or (b) reports of Mbye going are true.

If a) then mansour direct replacement for nofa and Laurie won’t see a game until later in the season. If b) then I think Jimmy at fullback (someone else mentioned it too) which is a high risk however they will have Laurie to blood a rookie if It doesn’t work out, again presumably later in the season.

I think Talau is a good shot at getting the left centre spot. There’s a lot of faith being put in Jimmy the Jet but there’s a good chance he doesn’t play much footy for us.

Laurie is more of a fullback than Mbye and pretty talented. Definitely could take the starting spot for fullback

For those that don't know
Both Nofoaluma and Mansour are both managed by Ultra Management
You would think they would know what each player is worth
They have to be on very similar $

Depends when Mansour signed his last contract ..based on 2016 Mansour was probably in the Top 4-5 wingers ...different since he broke his jaw

Yes but we are talking now
Stats for both players are very similar this year
I have heard all the pro's and con's for both players
To Many sentimental people with opinions on here
If Nofoaluma wants to leave there is nothing any of us can do
We need to think with our heads not our hearts
That is a job for Hartigan
Its like employing a financial planner
They are there to help you get the best return on your money
I don't have a problem Signing Mansour
Keeping Nofoaluma would be even better
So far I can see we have strengthened our go forward with the addition of Tamou and Ofahengaue
Our pace with the jet
Our experience with Tamou and Mansour (if true)
And added a young but Livewire fullback that should bring some excitement to our team
Moving Doueihi to the halves and Liddle starting at hooker in a year he must stay on the ground and excel will also be exciting to watch
Add to that trying to fit in Kepaoa and Talau to the team and having up to 8 spots and a pot of gold next year
Things are certainly looking up
I don't know what people expect
As they say, Rome wasn't built in a day
Hartigan has been at the club how long
I am confident the club is moving in the right direction

Nero burnt Rome ..took longer than a day though

Well if true hopefully we can get a full pre season with Laurie at fullback, Doueihi and Brooks in the halves and Liddle at Hooker
Just because we get Mansour doesn't mean we lose Nofoaluma
They play opposite wings
I know many dont agree with Mansour coming but he will add to our defence and experience
Competition will be a good thing for our club

Only downside is hopefully it doesn't cost us young blokes like Talau. He can negotiate elsewhere from end of next season I think.

Should have swapped JAC for TT, now we’ll end up with a washed up Mansour, so WT

JAC would have broken the bank, Mansour won't. If JAC didn't cut it as fullback, he would have screwed our salary cap no less than Reynolds. He's a great winger, but an unknown as fullback.

And on a side note, Mansour is not going to be on the news for posting dumb antics on Instagram.

We will have to deal with Mansour's Guido-mode cringe photos though of him in his all-white get-up, resplendent in those teenybopper 3/4 pants and boat shoes! Bloke wouldn't of looked out of place on Acropolis Now.

U wish u looked as bad as him

A lot of speculation going on on these pages.

Lets wait and see how it plays out.

Yes wed might lose a player but all that really matters is how we play in 2021 and if we finish higher than we would have

"Timana Tahu tips James Roberts to return to Origin

Former NRL star Timana Tahu says he's confident Wests Tigers recruit James Roberts can make his return to the Origin arena.

Tahu, who recently joined Michael Maguire's coaching staff, will play an important role with the club moving forward as he gets set to work with the outside backs.

The likes of Roberts, two-time Dally M Centre of the Year Joey Leilua and young gun Tommy Talau will all be under Tahu's watch.

For the club to have any chance of featuring in their first finals campaign since 2011, a lot will hinge on Roberts who recently joined the Tigers on a two-year deal.

The move was somewhat of an NRL lifeline for the 27-year-old who was released by the Rabbitohs after battling through a spate of injuries and off-field issues, a little over a year after he was released by the Broncos under similar circumstances.

Roberts last played for the Blues in 2018 when he featured in all three games of the winning series for New South Wales. The centre has also failed to notch more than 10 tries per-season since crossing over 18 times for the Broncos back in 2017.

Despite what's been a rollercoaster of a ride over the past few seasons for Roberts, Tahu made it known he expects the Indigenous star to get back to the top level of Origin football.

"You look at Jimmy, he was the NSW centre just [two years ago]," Tahu told the Sydney Morning Herald.

"That's where I expect him and BJ (Joey Leilua) to be as well. They just need to believe in it.

"One of the reasons I'm there is to give them that belief. They are natural strike weapons. There's not too much to teach on the field.

"I feel they should be the NSW centres, for sure."

He'll never play for WT.

What’s your reasoning?

Said he'd never play for the same club as his old man - always felt he'd be compared to him.

What one person says and actually does ..... all depends on circumstances which are presented at place of time.

It was probably said a decade ago aswell.

Richards second stint in our colours was horrible but he did some funny kick offs which we got back 20% of the time and he scored a try 10 years earlier so everyone gave him a pass

And yes he cost us Korobiete

correct, the thing is (as is now) that we did not have a goal kicker, so Richards was there for his kicking, and that cost us Koribate!
Today we have a similar issue, we will need to find a space for our goal kicker - Momirovski

Doueihi is the Answer

Not sure about that. Also not sure where you’d put Momirovski. He’s a centre, far too slow for wing and he’s miles behind JTJ, BJ and Talau. He’s a depth player

I think that was prior to the ‘coffee shop’ ‘hair fiasco’ meeting when Pascoe and Lee were ‘very impressed’ with him, I heard he’s training two days a week but haven’t seen any evidence of this.

Can’t believe the rubbish on here.

We don’t need 2 potential players (Lids and Simpkin) in a hooker role we need established players with potential putting pressure on the established players. If the potential players are good enough they will end up starting.

Lids hasn’t shown any signs of being able to last 80mins week to week for an nrl season & if we have all our eggs in that basket it’s very high risk. Hope he proves me wrong but history is very much against him.

I suppose that Harry was an established player at the start of the season.

Lol here we go.....

Lids has had many cracks at the NRL and his injuries aren’t just bad luck. His body hasn’t been able to hold up. Some players can others can’t. Hard to not be cautious about it. Can’t compare his pathway to that of Grant.

Simpkins is a while off playing 80mins, he has no one infront of him if he is good enough he will be a walk up starter for us as to his nrl quality it’s unknown especially not playing for 12mths due to COVID.

Harry had the Aussie 9 & NZ 9. He was also preferred ahead of Lids and Simpkins which says a fair bit as well. He was also playing regular footy which Lids and Simpkins hasn’t been able to do for some time.

Grant was preferred over Liddle, because he was out injured (in rehab) for most of the year.

By the way it is Simpkin - no 's'
