Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

no idea what his defence is like (don;t think i've ever seen a highlights package for defence 🙁 ) but he has size and runs good lines at pace as well as ball playing, so if he can defend he may well be a very good lock under the new rules (like Mcinnes, B Smith etc will be). 6 AD, 7 Brooks, 13 Hastings

Highlight reels for defence died around the time shoulder tackles got veto’d i feel haha.

Used to love seeing sbw and his big hits 😂

I'm often amazed at some of the stuff on this forum. People don't want Hastings who has played 47 NRL games and rep football for NSW through all the age groups and represented the junior kangaroos and played test football for GB. He has achieved more than most NRL players ever will and he is only 25. People saying his skill set wouldn't stand up or his playmaking will be atrocious ( really -did you watch Brooks last year) at NRL level but are happy to put forward Madden who has never played NRL or AD who had half a game at 5/8 and Brooks who surely has to be on his last chance as the saviours of the club. I'm sure some supporters on here woud be lucky to pick the difference between a league ball and a soccer ball.

Good point and hey you’re probably right 🤷‍♂️

I think im just leaning towards watching brooks and doeuhi at this point seeing benji and jrey have left. Anyway this goes lets pray for the best hey

Don't need him. Reasonable performance over there. It is ESL though.

Never performed to a good credible level here though.

Would be ok, maybe to play cc, but he wouldn't come here to do that.

Who are we going to fall back on if Brooks gets injured and Madden doesn't cut it in 1st grade? We would be absolutely buggered......probably have to beg Souths to (gulp) let us have Benji back.
Hastings would be handy. We aren't flushed for halves in our club.

I've been watching the ESL for the last 10 years and Jackson has been by far the the best Aussie and Kiwi import they've had over those years.

In my opinion the DCE issue was blown out of proportion across media and socials. Yes, he broke curfew and DCE took exception to it, however the media made a mountain out of a mole hill. Trent Barrett and Scott Penn fed into the blowback and only dropped him to keep DCE happy.

We've seen much worse behaviour in the NRL, a lot of players have been forgiven for bad behavior both on and off the field, and in some cases even criminal indiscretions.

If the Tigers are looking to sign Jackson, it's a great move. I'm all for it.

I saw him off the pitch in his time over there, Guys is still an A Grade Goose!!
Don't want him near the club...

Yeah and we only have about 13 utility players at the club ...we need one more

For those saying the defence is rubbish - you're right it is. Look however at what Hastings does not the defence. He takes the line on, he backs up every play, he can throw a cutout pass or a soft pass, he has a good short kicking game, he is quick off the mark, he has time in his play. They all attributes a good half/5-8 has to have in NRL. Yep defences are up on you faster in NRL and hit outside runners easier but they guy has got what it takes to do well.

I get it mate , but that skill set , IMO doesn’t translate to NRL. The space won’t be there in the NRL. The speed and fitness level of the biggest plodder seems equal to that of some of the elite in super league .
To me it’s why George Williams translated , as , he wasn’t just a show and go half . He had a good kicking game , and ball skills . Not needed as much in super league cause you can pass it to Hastings types who slice through . It seems like checkers to chess for me . Or chess to 4d chess . Whatever analogy you want to use , NRL is way higher of a standard , and his skill set worries me .

If we sign him ...... just hold your fire.
I’d hate to have you people in my line.
You just shoot off at whatever pops it’s head. Hopeless.

It’s an opinion about a rumour dude . If he wears the colours then I’ll back him , until then I don’t rate the signing . I think there’s better out there .

Yep and in those 45 games , at any point did you think , yea there goes the tigers half of the future? I remember him here . The biggest thing I remember was thinking how unmemorable , he was as there was huge raps on him coming through at the roosters . Plus the attitude stuff never goes away with him. Plenty of people who have met him , within the context of a team , not kissing babies and signing autographs, swear he’s a dickhead . I don’t know if that’s true . But where there’s smoke there’s fire .
To me killing it in super league needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Drinkwater killed it over there . Never got a run with any team here . Same with Jacob Miller . The Witt brothers , Tim Smith ,, Bevan French !!!!! The guy was getting hammered over here. Of course they’re Ll amazing footy players . Really what we are doing is deciding which sports car is the fastest. They’re all pretty amazing . But I’m wary of the big fish little pond .That’s all .

For all the naysayers of Hastings.....just wondering who they want to do a job in the halves if Brooks and perhaps Madden go down with injury?
We could end up with Mbye and Talau in the halves by season's end. Not exactly a heartwarming proposition.

And Super League produced one of our all time greats, Gareth the Great.

nah,

I think the most attractive thing about this guy is his been playing for a bit and his still only what 25?

But as others have commented, his playmaking would be atrocious at the nrl level. I’m usually all about giving blokes a chance, but this one will spell doom for us in the sense of holding back madden+shifting douehi.

I think we’ll be alright fellas lol.

Doom for us? What are you basing that on?

Hey just my opinion no stress if you don’t agree.

fb is with mbye whos going to basically have a make or break season. Dummy half is a toss and turn between liddle, possibly simpkin and the club’s still clearly keeping its options open.

Importing a half from overseas (in my opinion) will be disastrous, itll probably take someone like hastings a season or 2 to get used to how we do things here, thats a season or 2 worth of experience you should probably be giving to someone else. (Madden, and idk if anyone remembers douehis 40m cut out pass to the right but i really wanna see that more)

I just don’t see the need to be focusing on the halves at all right now we got a few options (untested sure) buts thats more than we have had in ages? I mean sure we’re starting to get depth in most areas now, but i’d still like a back up winger thats not someone fresh off a development contract, or a back up centre in case roberts and Bj don’t have the awesome seasons we hope they will (yea we got talau, Aj and momo so that all subjective depending on whos still here when the season starts).

Our halves options are a gamble, but a needed gamble, we cant keep delaying the inevitable by bringing someone like Hastings along.

(pls dont bite my head off just my 2cents lol)

If it takes Hastings 2 years to adapt it will be 4 years better than Brooks.

Like I said , their skill set suits NRL . How Ricky saw it in George Williams , is a testament to him and his team , because not many others saw it .
I could be completely wrong but yea , I think our current crop should be better than Him. But if he comes , I’ll support him and hope he turns into Laurie Daley 2.0. I just don’t see it .

Hey I’m assuming you are talking about a very specific example where brooks, madden AND douehi all go down to injury at the same time. Just to be clear?

Walters as well at this stage, and possibly liddle or simpkins as dummy halves would be a better bet to throw into the halves IF all 3-4-5 players mentioned above all miraculously get injured long term at the same time lol.

Going to disagree that luke brooks hasnt been productive for the club in 4 years. But lets not open that can of worms as its been discussed here 300 times

Yeah Walters will go great, considering he is currently rehabbing an ACL.
Liddle has barely played in 3 seasons, Simpkin has yet to debut in his specialist position let alone get thrown in as a stop-gap half. Douiehi has played what, 1 or 2 games at 5/8 for us?
You're right.....we are sweet for options??

Thats an odd statement to make in my opinion.
liddle and simpkin have played close to nothing as per your statement, but you want the club to prepare for a situation where all our halves options go down the the drain and bring on a bloke thats not used to the code XD

Bro......

Edit: going to stop the discussion about this here, I’ve seen you make the same statement a few times now, going back to the discussion about your view vs my view. Mate i hope we dont get to the point where everyones injured and we wished hastings was around, but i have an odd feeling we’ll be alright.

Edit part 2: I’m kind of jealous of penrith fans in discussions like these. They get to talk about crichton, burton, laurie and leniu. All rookies given a shot and excelled. We have a few coming up and our own fans want to say yea no thanks most of the time. thats poor 🙁 but hey good luck to the rookies they have my backing for sure.

Mostly nrl highlights there

Also had an ok goal kicking record when used over a season... over 80%. That was in the nrl. Excluded the year when he only had 4 attempts. Doesn’t kick in England
