For those saying the defence is rubbish - you're right it is. Look however at what Hastings does not the defence. He takes the line on, he backs up every play, he can throw a cutout pass or a soft pass, he has a good short kicking game, he is quick off the mark, he has time in his play. They all attributes a good half/5-8 has to have in NRL. Yep defences are up on you faster in NRL and hit outside runners easier but they guy has got what it takes to do well.

I get it mate , but that skill set , IMO doesn’t translate to NRL. The space won’t be there in the NRL. The speed and fitness level of the biggest plodder seems equal to that of some of the elite in super league .
To me it’s why George Williams translated , as , he wasn’t just a show and go half . He had a good kicking game , and ball skills . Not needed as much in super league cause you can pass it to Hastings types who slice through . It seems like checkers to chess for me . Or chess to 4d chess . Whatever analogy you want to use , NRL is way higher of a standard , and his skill set worries me .

Is Jackson Hastings a goal-kicker?

That would solve a problem.

Jackson Hastings Goals Goal Kicking %
Sydney Roosters 26/31 83.87%
Manly 3/4 75.00%
Overall 29/25 82.81%

Man he is a good goal kicker
He would solve all of our problems
29 Goals for 25 attempts
He is the best we will ever see
???

The way he plays the game reminds me alot of Jack Bird

Well, if he has ever been wrong - I hope it is this time.

Don’t worry Russ he’s always wrong ?

Its not as though he has never played NRL - he has played 47 games. He also played for NSW U16, U18 and U20 and the Junior Kangaroos and Gt Britain test side. He took Salford and Wigan to grand finals 2 years in a row and won the Man of Steel. And all this and he is still only 25. Worth a risk in my opinion.

I have no problem replacing Walters with Hastings. From a pure squad perspective, it again strengthens our side which is what it’s all about.

With the talk of Walsh potentially part of a swap, how do Laurie v Walsh compare and what would our spine look like in 21?

Reports are we asked for Walsh and they understandably told us to get stuffed.

Tell them we will throw in 1 russell packer for 2022

It would be a good result for the donkeys because the way Payne in the Haas is going he may not be playing for much longer.Sooner or later he will roll the dice and get snake eyes

As long as he is a Bronco he will get a free pass. If he was at a handful of other clubs in the NRL he would be goneski without a doubt.

Chee kam nearly killed an Uber driver and he still has a contract.... amazing how badly words can hurt in this time

So Haas is treated unfairly because he's Pacific Islander, but you think Chee Kam, a Pacific Islander, was treated too leniently?

Pacific Islander?..of Swiss, Fillipino and Samoan decent

He was born in the Eastern Suburbs Paddington NSW..that Just makes him a Cock..

Fair enough, I just knew he was in the Samoan team.

He is a family friend so this may have legs

Direct replacement for Walters ?

No I meant he is a family friend of the Mole. Mind you, I can’t even locate a Instagram account for the Mole and there is nothing about this by him on Twitter.

Possibly a fake Mole account

That may the case (fake), because it is not there now?

TIGERS KEEPING TABS ON HASTINGS

There has been a strong rumour doing the rounds for the past week that talented halfback Jackson Hastings is poised to join the Wests Tigers.

Hastings has been the star No.7 in England over the past couple of seasons and has been back in Oz during the holiday period.

Throw in that the Tigers have lost two veteran playmakers in Benji Marshall and Josh Reynolds - and question marks remaining over Luke Brooks - and it seems a perfect fit.

But I've done some digging and it seems that Hastings is set to see out the second year of his contract with Super League club Wigan.

After that, however, the classy halfback is likely to be ready to come home - and don't be surprised if the Tigers are first in line for his services.

Not that I’m entertaining the whole hastings rumour at all, but does anyone have a decent highlight real of his to watch?

Not bad! Thanks mate

I'd be happy to see Hastings in our squad. He seems to have matured. Super League is not as poor as made out (SBW couldn't cut it over there, he was made to look useless, yet walked back into the Roosters). And you can only play what's in front of you. And Super League produced one of our all time greats, Gareth the Great.

nah,

I think the most attractive thing about this guy is his been playing for a bit and his still only what 25?

But as others have commented, his playmaking would be atrocious at the nrl level. I’m usually all about giving blokes a chance, but this one will spell doom for us in the sense of holding back madden+shifting douehi.

I think we’ll be alright fellas lol.

For everyone questioning Hasting's character I suggest watching the Bloke in a Bar episode with him; he's clearly turned a corner.

I started the show thinking he was a grub and left feeling really impressed with him.

He knows he was immature and dumb and has really sorted himself out

I actually thought wow! He could see the angles to run into and he was strong in his commitment when he decided to run. As for not being a playmaker - um please book into OPSM on Monday if you think that - Count the try assists folks. Players supported him and were rewarded. His short kicking game, again back on the angles was better than anything we dished up recently. It's a Yes from me, but then we thought we had him!

Don't need him. Reasonable performance over there. It is ESL though.

Never performed to a good credible level here though.

Would be ok, maybe to play cc, but he wouldn't come here to do that.

If we sign him ...... just hold your fire.
I’d hate to have you people in my line.
You just shoot off at whatever pops it’s head. Hopeless.

no idea what his defence is like (don;t think i've ever seen a highlights package for defence 🙁 ) but he has size and runs good lines at pace as well as ball playing, so if he can defend he may well be a very good lock under the new rules (like Mcinnes, B Smith etc will be). 6 AD, 7 Brooks, 13 Hastings

You would hope Brooks and AD fire and he is purely a backup half/fullback. In which case it would be very handy to have the SL Man of Steal to slot in when injuries occur.

I said the same thing, Fifta on 1.25 million and Taylor on a million, plus Tino and Ese Ese coming as well, got the chooks or souths accountant

They're run by the NRL who want them to do well... blind eye.

NRL haven't run the Gold Coast licence since the end of 2017 mate. Owned by the Frizelle and Kelly families.

Hey just my opinion no stress if you don’t agree.

fb is with mbye whos going to basically have a make or break season. Dummy half is a toss and turn between liddle, possibly simpkin and the club’s still clearly keeping its options open.

Importing a half from overseas (in my opinion) will be disastrous, itll probably take someone like hastings a season or 2 to get used to how we do things here, thats a season or 2 worth of experience you should probably be giving to someone else. (Madden, and idk if anyone remembers douehis 40m cut out pass to the right but i really wanna see that more)

I just don’t see the need to be focusing on the halves at all right now we got a few options (untested sure) buts thats more than we have had in ages? I mean sure we’re starting to get depth in most areas now, but i’d still like a back up winger thats not someone fresh off a development contract, or a back up centre in case roberts and Bj don’t have the awesome seasons we hope they will (yea we got talau, Aj and momo so that all subjective depending on whos still here when the season starts).

Our halves options are a gamble, but a needed gamble, we cant keep delaying the inevitable by bringing someone like Hastings along.

(pls dont bite my head off just my 2cents lol)
