Wonder if the doggies would swap Mbye for Flanagan? He's obviously on the nose there and I assume that they still have some love for Mbye. We take over Flanagans contract and they take over Mbyes. Means we save a few bucks and both teams SORTA win.

I would not go anywhere near Flanagan.

He is already being shopped around by the Bulldogs. They're finding out quickly why the Roosters wanted him gone and it's not just related to on-field performances...

Any other news to share mate?

It's good to see us mix it up a bit. In the past we've gone for big name players, failed and thrown big money at duds. Now we are looking over seas and signing talented juniors instead.

It's risky but the club is trying. Good on them assuming it's true.

Anything at this stage is worth a try, at present we are going nowhere. I would try Brooks an Madden in the halves, and AD at centre, see how they go, at half time try AD and Madden in the halves and Brooks at centre or lock .

The only place i'd LOCK Brooks is in the video review room at training and make him repeatedly watch how to dive and ankle tap a player that he is a meter away from.

Your blaming the only guy that put in the effort to chase?

It was a good chase ..
A dive for the ankle tap would’ve made it look better though.

Like one of noffa’s ankle taps when he was in position to tackle?

Yeah but without the spook play and air swing ?
Peachy hasn’t got a goose step ..
Brooksie would've had him .

WE ARE NOT WINNING GAMES SO WHAT IS THE HARM

There is a lot of harm in destroying the confidence of 60 players with "just try anything".

Doueihi plays a very specific role as a running 5/8, similar to Jack Whiten. Whiten took quite a while to come good at 5/8 and learn when to pass and when to run.

Doueihi is not a halfback, and your 6 and 7 have to compliment each other, certain types of halfback go with certain types of 5/8s. Brooks is an allrounder and a running 5/8 like Doueihi is the right match for him. If both can play with confidence and freedom and the forwards stop getting dominated, it can be a good combination.

Trying random stuff means that we never see what could have been if we had fixed the teams attitude and defence and let the spine have a season to play together.

Gildart will go well. He's a very good strike centre who's solid defensively. His main issue recently has been staying fit, he's picked up a fair few injuries over the last 2 years.

Sounds a bit like the bloke we got for 150 k from Souths who'd played SOO

Nah mate, hasn’t been sacked from 4 clubs - that was just ludicrous

It's happening, believe on a two-year deal. Gilly has long said he'd like to test himself in the NRL - good luck to him.

Cannot believe people are wanting to tinker with Doueihi and Laurie.

Doueihi is 100% not a halfback. He is really good as a second receiver or running on edges. He's such a strong runner, why play him at halfback where his primary role would be passing wide and organising? It makes no sense. Maybe he could fill in and do it, but if you want players playing their best position why move him? He really looks at home at 5/8. Maybe he could play a role as some sort of lock and he could probably play centre too, but his position and his strengths suit 5/8 as a ball runner with a good cut out pass, a bit of guile and a great mid field bomb (which wasn't going well against the Titans). Definitely not a halfback where I think you want to have acceleration, busyness, elusiveness. Doueihi has a bit of Fittler about him with the smooth running andscheming play.

Also, a big no to moving Laurie. How can anyone consider moving a player who has barely made an error at fullback and is getting better in attack every week? In a terrible side he still looks incredible, **just wait until we actually have some momentum (if we ever get that**).

Moving either of these players weakens our greatest strengths. Find better ideas people, moving these two would throw us into even more mediocrity.

One of our halves lacks creativity
We desperately need that (creativity)to succeed
Tedesco couldn't help us when we had Moses and Brooks running the show
Laurie is now in the same boat

So who plays fullback if you move Laurie? You're moving a player who is virtually faultless from fullback to take on the halfback position, when he's barely played played ten nrl games, and you're replacing him with one of our error riddled fullbacks like Mbye. You're now a big chance of messing with Laurie's confidence while not getting a good halfback out of him and stuffing up the fullback position. You mess that up and players will stop believing in you. And you're making all those changes when fullback is virtually as important as halfback these days (look at Turbo's impact at Manly), so why bother? It makes no sense. We need a better idea.

No Twal and Ofahengaue? And Fitzgibbon could be the flyer Blore second

right then you can tick one centre off the list. need another, or for Talau or Kepaoa to step up. next on the list is a left winger, halfback, front rower who can actually lead the pack and a 13.

I just looked at the 2018 series against the Kiwis to see how he goes. The winger, Tommy Makinson. I'd be having a go at him...

you heard anything on the recruitment front? I know I ask you this every time but I've grown desperate hahahaha

Staff met with Sebastian Kris after the Titans game about round 4 but I don't know what resulted. Also a rugby kid from one of the private schools but no idea who or what position.

Kris has a tackle efficiency at around 71%…. perfect for us.

I would actually like having Oates on the left wing

Played big games and people forget that he is actually pretty young (26)

Roughly (it's a guess)
Packer $850k
Mbye $850k
BJ $500k
Left over salary cap from JRey $500k
Spare $500-750k

Say 3.2-3.5 million if mbye goes full freight.

Munster 1.5
Paps 1.2
B Smith 750

Try and jag Bellamy as football director.
Top 8 team nxt year
More a chance of getting if there are others coming as well.

He is not the only one being shopped around, they are keen on making a play on Hynes, who is meeting with the Titan’s this week, there was originally talk about Stimson but that now includes up to another 5 players. I think the Tigers could get some great value

Flanagan would be no better than Brooks behind our pack. We should only be looking at players who are "competitors", winners who hate to lose and play at 110% every week.
In my view we should be throwing the house at Brandon Smith, Finucane, Nathan Brown or Sua, a genuine winger and a centre. These sort of guys will lead the way and lift our up and coming young blokes with them.

We lack the clutch, hard edge back rower that pretty much all the good teams have. Same goes for the prop position.

Its our biggest issue imo.

We need a Wade Graham, Cameron Murray, Isaah Yeo, James Fisher Harris, Jason Taumalolo, Tyson Frizzell, Jared Waerea Haregreaves, Boyd Cordner Jesse Bromwhich, Dale Finucane, or Jake Trbojevic type of player.

these guys set the culture, they set the standards and they lead the way.

Our closest is Joe Ofahengaue. He is a B grade version but does lead the way.

Recruitment priority should be to strengthen this area of our squad with guys who can lead us going forward.

Is cordner off contract?
I do wonder whether we could temp him to come across and lead a young side.
Rooster may be more keen on keeping Chrichton as there is more longevity there.
But a fit cordner for a couple of seasons is something I wouldn’t think is possible therefore I didn’t even consider it.

Cordner is one head knock away from retirement.

Get Cordner to coach defence, obviously not head placement but he's pretty good at the rest of it.

We should pay Jake Trbojevic to be a defensive consultant for us. ✌?
