Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

People keep saying the COE will help

Just remember it is just a building

Putting aces in the right places is critical to the COE being a success ....we haven't been real successful in the past of doing this

i think there is no doubt it will help in developing young talent. Whether we can keep that young talent once developed is another question.

What’s 50-100k more per season

What’s 50-100k more per season - more than who?

He wants 800k. Tamou is on 350K.....

Don't get the 50-100k more pj.

I meant if he we lost finucane because we wouldn't pay 50-100k more. In the scheme of things, it's not that much for his professionalism and experience

I don't think an extra 50-100k is the difference.

Hopefully not

Its not, he also wants more years than we are willing to give.

That might be the "overs" that we need to pay to get class players here.

The money he is looking for he would need to be a state of origin level player, is he going to be at that level in 3 to 4 years? He is still in the mix but I am not sure he wants to be here either.

Yeah understand what ur saying man.
We just need that first domino to fall and others will follow. If we look at Signing a player like finucane, even if the overs are perceived to be too much, we need to realise the effect on the whole picture. That extra money/year might be the answer to getting the ball rolling and might not be the big deal as an individual transaction.

The player you break the bank on and play overs for needs to be a player that transforms the club, someone that makes the players around them better. Is Finucane that player? Probably not.

Ok

I see us signing Finucane and it ending in tears like Matt Ballin. It’s a pass from me.

Nrl rich list.

Nofoluma 525k
Dougie 650k

What the hell? Thought nofoa was around 425k and Douhie was around 500k

Either paper has no idea or we paid overs... Again....

If AD is on $600k he is a huge bust.

He's our best player or at least close to it. Nofa on $500k+ would be a much bigger issue

We must be watching different games. He has a good passing game and is passionate, but is a slow as a wet week and his defence is terrible.

I would rate him on par as Momorovski as a centre, but costing twice as much.

Yep, and the fact Nofo is signed up for another 1,000 years is equally disturbing.

If we still had nofo of last year it would be a good signing

But we didn’t, we got the Nofo of every other year.

I disagree. I think that Nofo is the same player he has always been. Great hit-ups. Can finish a try. Poor defensively.

I think if the team starts performing Nofo will be just as good as he has been in the past. I also don't see him as anywhere near a top winger in the comp. We overpaid with too long a contract but I don't see it as a club killer. It's not in Mbye, Reynolds or Packer realm or even close to it.

He runs sideways too much these days and his defence is so bad he shouldn’t be in first grade. In fact his defence is an embarrassment.

I get it but the thing is he has always been that way. I get it isn't his best year but we've been poor. If we turn it around he will as well.

The club should pick one player who they think can make the biggest difference and pay him what he wants it's a gamble no one past there best years and who likes a challenge

He has always been like that, which makes his re-signing all the more disappointing.

I would have no problem overpaying for Brandon Smith.

Quick note...GI did his hammy in the sl and his club has terminated his contract... i think signing him to work with laurie and our youngster's wohld be amazing in building that i indigenous club culture we r working on

that's a top idea

If the club is going after Siro its a good idea. We need blokes who want to wear our jersey. Our jersey needs players who respect and honour it, who feel privileged to put it on, arent just doing it for a paycheck. We need to get blokes who want to play for the club. Put some pride back in the jersey. Last week was pathetic. Bring both Sironen's back if you have to.

Gun. People on here didn't think he's a hooker but as soon as he got fit for it he's been smashing it

He brings an energy and will to win none of our blokes have. He’s someone who’d change the culture whilst also adding massively on the field. We have a significant amount of money, would be silly if we aren’t having a serious crack.

I'm pretty sure he's staying at Melbourne for the next year or two though

While I agree with the disbelief of us not even attempting to go for someone like for Brandon Smith (as I felt the similarly with Fifita or Tino), I can't see how Hartigan can be knocked with regards for not securing better backs. He can't be blamed for losing out on them.
The reason we ended up with the likes of Maumalo or Roberts etc., was because we were unable to get players like Lomax, Latrell, JAC and Alex Johnston over the line. The quality of those players and how they are in the comp tells me our statistician guy - that @cochise mentioned - and Hartigan are getting the job done.
We'd look a complete different outfit if we landed two of those players.

This is true but once they hook up the nuffies to the equipment they’ll then realise they have no ticker 😆
