I could not disagree more, we are easily the least desirable club

And that's because we don't have real talented players other players want to play with....too may "try hards" not enough x factor

That is because we can't attract good players, something stinks here, and I have made my opinion known what is a major part of the good players going elsewhere.

When have we ever been able to attract good players let’s be real?

Our 2005 premiership team was made up of juniors and discards from other clubs, most notably Prince, Hodgson and Richards. None of them were exactly killing it when we signed them

Hodgson was an origin player when we signed him.

You’re right, my bad

It’s not like it’s a recent thing though. We’ve never really been able to attract top marquee talent

No we haven't, because for most of our existence we've been pretty terrible. The problem is the more we lose the harder it will get.

And the rugby league player community is small. No doubt the word gets around.

We definitely are. What big names have we signed in the past 5 years? Seriously, tell me and I'll name a bigger name every other club has signed. Every single one. It's not all doom and gloom but it doesn't help to deny the reality.

"Big names" is only one measurement of desirability. General mid-tier signings, junior signings, general reputation - they are all involved.

The only way you'd really be able to somewhat prove "least desired" would be a poll of a significant number of footballers, who they would least join, if all contracts were equal.

There is no definite about it, unless you have done the survey.

So for example Bulldogs, yeah they have a couple of high-pay high-profile signings, but no junior recruits or retention. So exactly where is their desirability? Desire to earn bucks? If your kids aren't staying, exactly how desirable are you as a club? Esp. a club like Bulldogs where there should be far more opportunities for emerging players, because the roster is so unsettled.

What’s you’re opinion (in short) mate? we won a comp with one of the longest serving and most accomplished coaches at the time and couldn’t attract these “players”
we’ve never been able to attract them!!
I could count on my fingers the good signings this club has made post 2000 (discounting the last 2 years) - and that’s including Blair…
We’ve had other CEO’s (even used to have the Manly CEO, his signings over there are much better than his signings with us) we’ve had plenty of coaches… we’ve had plenty of time…

Demographically, we’re torched!! We don’t have the money to match it with Parra or Penrith - or the location to match it with the other Sydney Clubs…
What do we have to offer any player?

Be realistic now….

I know you and plenty others will disagree, but Madge got offside with key players at souths, took them to 12th in 2016 and 12th in 2017, Seibold came in in 2018 and took them to 3rd.
Players talk, word gets around, Madge is off with players, rightly or wrongly this is where he/we are, in my opinion another coach would attract better players.
Flanagan has a great repoire with his players, Ciraldo is behind Penriths great defence, either of these 2 would have had us sign some some of those players we recently missed, that is my opinion

Not from me
over the years some good backs these guys can tackle better than our current centres so it's a start

Olakuatu , keppie and Schuster are better than him. He maybe snags a bench role at the most.

Sironen is better than him too I reckon

Lawton is better than him too.

I'd argue the amount of talent the Tigers have let go is worse. It's one thing to not be able to attract quality players but to already have them and let them go is surely worse?

I agree, I'd be Ok with a Garner/Lawton trade. Especially with Lawton's flexibility in covering Hooker. Means that M'Bye isn't required to stink up the place

Sorry to bring this back to a Signing and Suggestion chat.
As Murray Talaugi has announced resigned I stumbled across this tidbit in the article.

“The Cowboys were offered the services of English twins Innes and Louis Senior, who are contracted to Huddersfield, but any move now appears unlikely for next year with Taulagi now set to re-sign.”

I just looked these boys up.

21 yo 6’4 and 100kg.
Wing and Centre
Anyone know much about them.

It sounds like they were keen to try there hand in Aus.

With the cowboys out of the running I wonder if our new head of football may have a word to them?

You might be surprised!

Basically, Balmain and Wests, and now Wests Tigers never had to really go out and buy players from other clubs. We have mainly developed our own player from juniors, country areas. We probably picked up more players from the UK and NZ than from other NRL sides. Penrith do the same.

From the telegraph:

The Wests Tigers have lodged an 11th hour bid to sign the game’s hottest property Dale Finucane.

The Tigers have entered the race as it can also be revealed the Knights have ended their pursuit of the Storm and NSW Origin forward.

The 29-year-old’s current club, the Melbourne Storm, are also resigned to the fact that he will be departing the club at the end of this season.

It leaves the Tigers, Sharks, Dragons, Cowboys and Titans locked-in a multi-million dollar scrap for his signature.

All five clubs are believed to have tabled a three-year contract — but Finucane’s management have been pushing hard for an extra year to seal the deal.

Given the physical nature of the way Finucane has played the game and a recent history of calf problems, the majority of the suitors have been reluctant to go beyond a third year.

Regardless, Finucane’s new deal is expected to be in the vicinity of $2 million dollars - a healthy pay-day for a player who is widely respected for his leadership, work-ethic and cultural standards.

It’s understood the Tigers stepped up their bid to sign Finucane after missing out on Tevita Pangai Jr, who is on the move from the Broncos to Canterbury.

It could throw a late curve-ball to the drawn-out negotiations which was expected to be resolved this weekend after he went through the bids with his agent Andrew Purcell on Friday.

Very, very interesting.

Let me guess how this plays out....
Saints sign Finucane after an agonisingly close, toss of the coin decision between similar, fantastic, multi-million dollar offers from the Sharks, Titans and Cowboys.
Tigers miss out.
Again.

As footballers alone (not counting off field issues), I'd have JDB over Finucane. JDB just controls the ruck with his defence and has a good offload.

Would he leave the coast though ? He’s pretty entrenched in the community down here . It’s a long way to concord .Plus the whole rape stuff is pretty on the nose . Whether it’s true or not , unfortunately everybody is guilty in the court of social media outrage .

With the Dragons wanting Mbye, a swap seems a logical step. Mick Cronin use to travel from Gerringong to Parramatta to train and play,

Dragons will play hard ball, they're already saying if they don't get him this year they won't sign him at all. They can just refuse a swap knowing we will get stuck with him next year if we can't make a deal, not sure how desperate they are for Mbye

I really don't know why WT don't hand-deliver Mbye to Saints door immediately. He is no use to us for the rest of this season, he isn't going to be the reason we sneak into the 8 or miss out. It is the only way of getting him off our books for decent remuneration for '22. It needs to happen.

Just a guess, but we have a lot of dollars, without Mbye leaving. Not much around to buy for next year, so maybe better to wait for his 2022 contract to expire, leaving us $900,000 to sign a quality player next year for 2023 ?

Why keep him on the books for '22 and have to pay him his huge salary that we get basically no value for money out of? Get rid of him immediately and then we have his '22 money in our bank for next season. Who knows what player might suddenly become available in that time?

OK, we have Hastings, and Gildart coming. We have Packer @$900.000, going, Joey Lei,going $$$$-? Reynolds money ?
So we have big $ for next year, and no one to spend it on.
Do we need Mbyes money for next year ?
Then we look at the players that also may be moved on,--Walters-- JTJ--- TT--- ZINI---KEI----CHEE KAM--- HOFFMAN and more. Paying Mbyes contract out gives us an extra $400,000 that we will find hard to spend, even allowing we will have to upgrade some players. We may need his money for 2023, is what i'm getting at.

Why do people make up numbers?

For the sixth time on here ... Packer 670k.
