Yea , players don’t leave thier club , unless they are going to something that seems familiar . We had JAC , we just wouldn’t trade Talau . Which in terms of value , I get it . He still could be anything , and a strike centre/ edge backrower is infinitely more valuable than an undersized , fast winger . Look at the storm , they churn through wingers at a rate of knots , and always seem to produce stars.
It begs the question of what his perceived value is and what it actually is .
On the face if it though , it was a mistake .
TPJ is meh , arrow is meh , and we had to pay 800k plus for IMO a bench player , and a lazy strike middle , with a bad attitude .
Mitchell , like all Koori kids from nsw , went to south’s . Once again , something familiar.

We ARE NOT going to sign elite players until we grow the kids into a force .
Also Lomax signed for way overs IMO at the time with st George .

This is the answer to the question , something that footy “experts” neglect to acknowledge or understand

This is year 2 of the real rebuild . Not the bull crap , Taylor ,cleary one where they sign over hill players to try and squeeze out an 8th place , but the real one where we suck for a few years, get the best juniors we can find , and put smart , hard working older guys around them to grow the culture .
Even if they suck like Tamou.

With where we are at, at some point we are going to have to repeat what Souths did in signing Asotasi.

Identify the right player & pay massive overs to get him here. Sounds simple but I can see 3 problems:
- identifying the right player. There are half a dozen examples in the last few years that show we cannot do this
- our philosophy is not to pay overs
- we can't get anyone to come to the club.

That’s the very reason I thought that pinning our hopes on Thompson on anything more that a reasonable deal is a mistake. I think that our Dogs subsidised 3 year offer that averages around $450k per year, should be our line in the sand. At that price we MAY be a value purchase.
We need defence minded forwards with experience to lead and mentor our younger forwards.
THAT means looking to players like Graham, Jackson, Pearce, Sironen and yes even our former disgrace capitan.

This and the news that he rejected our supposed deal leads me to believe that the Bulldogs are trying to move him on without allowing him to activate his s23 player option. Shifty shifty. Good on him for staying firm!

Spot on his manager is trying to use the clause to get a payout from dogs and then full freight from another club. Gus wants him gone it only cap hit for next year. I don’t like it I think we should stay clear. We don’t do well with mercenaries. That’s for the Roosters or Eels.

Been told by someone close to the dogs that Thompson wants $850k for his second year regardless of who is paying. Tigers have said no to $850k for years 2 and 3. Bulldogs happy to chip in for year 1 but not for year 2. So Thompson telling dogs that he will stay then take up his option. Deal can still be done but bulldogs will need to chip in for years 2 aswell. Deal is still alive because bulldogs want him gone, but his manager is playing it out in the media.

No he’s not wrong. We haven’t been able to attract players since Sheens left and that is because we have a reputation of being unprofessional and down the bottom of the ladder.

Anyone that thinks signing another coach will fix this problem is dreaming.

Depends on the coach... players would make the move if it was Bennett.

We tried that. We couldn’t get him, he went somewhere where he had a shot at winning.

Still don’t think we would have landed Latrell or JAC even with Bennett. Players, like coaches want to go to winning teams.

and that is just the players we *know* about, Im hearing that there are *many* more that we never hear about. I heard that Pascoe has had to employ another 2 staff and an intern and set up a new portable, just to listen to players reject us. I am hearing that due to the increaed demand for players to firmly reject us, the Tigers are looking into a system similar to NSW Health are using for vaccinations where you apply online for an appointment to come and reject us and your appointment time is dependent on your experience, current salary, representative experience and plod rating. SoO players are prioritised and they get to reject us early.

Im told that despite the current load, the Tigers are hoping to have been rejected by all current first graders by Grand Final day.

Some people are in complete denial about the state of things at the club. We let in 50 points yesterday against a Sharks team with $3m sitting on the sidelines and a halves pairing that had never played before. Madge was out coached by a caretaker coach.

On top of that we can’t sign anyone who is a legitimate starter at another NRL club (we plucked Ken out of Warriors reserve grade).

To suggest we just let this play out is insanity. If we don’t make changes next year will be even worse


I don’t think anyone is in denial, except you anti Madge brigade, if you can’t see that the players we have are not putting in then no one can help you.

Not suprised in the slightest,next year they have Thompson Hetherington TPJ Vaughn and Elliott under contract.The NRL may just as well open up a new judiciary room for the bulldogs.

Mate I can't understand all the fuss about Thompson, don't get me wrong he is a handy player to have but he isn't a game changer, doesn't inspire his teammates and is only on par with what we already have. 850K for two, were better off steering well clear, let every other special interest group say whatever they like, as long as we don't make the mistakes that screw and warp our cap.

I watched it last night, he called out Madge, offered up stats, it was not very good viewing for Madge supporters, or Wests Tigers fans in general, but it was all true. The current situation is not working as Ennis said, you can't keep doing the same thing and hoping for a different result, and I agree with him, Madge needs to go
