Yep after any lose we have we are the main course for media... I am very concerned what is going to be said after the panthers flogging we are about to get next week... This is what guys like you don’t understand . You see things as 10 years when in reality it’s closer to 2 . The sharks had 3 million of cap sitting on the sidelines ? Did they ? Because who was taking that money in the current market , if not for those players ? They had , just like everyone , thier over the hill over paid players sitting on the sidelines . If anything this season was a changing of the guard for many clubs . Including our own .

Specifically about the Sharks they are in a very similar predicament to Tigers except their junior players are a bit more developed than ours, a few years ahead. Obviously they decided to change the coach and they got a few key signings.

My mate is a big Sharks fan and I watched the match with him on zoom yesterday. Despite the magnitude of the win, the reality as a Sharks fan is that they are 1 win better so far than Tigers in 2021, and that win was yesterday. He has no confidence that they'll make the finals, nor that they'll be competitive if they do make the finals. He's not entirely sold on Hynes as a starting half and how long Finucane will last, with Sharks basically selling off their original 2021 halves pairing of Johnson and The Chad.

So yeah Sharkies have several million in wasted contracts - Fifita, Dugan, Moylan, Johnson - and half those guys not even playing. That's their own fault, it's not some kind of drastic injury toll, it's also players who are severely out of form and dropped.

We discussed, I think if you play the Tigers Sharks game again next week, same venue, you might get a very different result. Such is the nature of the sides from 7th and down on the ladder. Newcastle may find themselves in the finals and if so their campaign will include two losses to Tigers. Sharks lost to Bulldogs earlier in the year.

None of this is to excuse the Tigers, it's just I don't think Sharks are the poster boys for how to improve. We need to be comparing ourselves to the Top 4 and really nobody else.

Sharks are competitive in most games, we turn it up.

The sharks have had players out of position all year as well as the kids and should not be in the position that they are.

Lets be honest hes had a good 6-7 games in a row. so a bumper pay rise after 2 months good work?
Start negotiating early next year if he starts the season strong....Nofa had 1 really good year also.Thats worked out splendid for the club to date.

im hearing you and agree with you to an extent , but we also have to factor in that he isnt the type of player just here to make up the numbers.
Look at the fact that he is learning off other big name players and how he can improve his game based on what he seeing other big boppers do. Steph will not be one of those players that is just here for the pay cheque each week without doing his job for the team , like some others we have currently.

Come November 1st next year he can negotiation with other teams, he will get offered big money by a couple clubs. It's not like he won't play NRL for the long term future so he will probably hold out until then

I believe they said the club is looking into reupping and front loading high performers like stefano and Laurie . It was in reference to the question what are we going to do with all this free space , and no one to spend it on .

I thought he was on around 250-300k but if its 350k that is still a great deal for us...
I understand what you are saying but for me he is playing better than a player that is on 500k and if we look after him now he remember this and helps us retain him. Can you imagine if he progresses further next season like he will that will only increase his price and also the interest of other clubs that will also drive up his salary. So offering him an upgraded deal now (while we have money) will be cheaper long term then waiting another year and his value increase even more. For me that is rewarding him and the club

I don’t want to be beholden to some misquote . But that was the gist . Believe it , don’t believe it , I don’t care , it’s logical when you consider we had the coin for TPJ this year , and next , and we haven’t filled that spot , with most of our core group locked away for a Few years .
