Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

A lot of suggestions for players who are barely playing first grade. 9 times out of 10 they aren’t playing first grade for a reason. They aren’t going to magically transform coming here. And given the space we have in the cap, we should be aiming a lot higher

It's more of a case of looking at what's left unsigned for next year and realizing almost everyone on that list is a fringe first grader at best. Just coz you have money to spend doesn't make players you want/need automatically available.

I think we need to upgrade and lock in the players other clubs will want.

Im sure a lot of tigers will be looking at Josh Aloia in the semis this weekend...

Sign players off contract for 2023. Then seek a release for 2022

This is something else that’s unrealistic. We need to fill the roster ASAP. You can’t put your eggs in the basket of waiting till November to sign players in 2023, which in itself will be a struggle. But then you have to haggle a release with the players club that might not happen. And by now it’s halfway through November and you still have 4 roster spots to fill

Given the lack of talent available for next season I'd be going hard out from Nov 1 this yr to lock in some quality for 2023 and hope a few get released early. If they aren't released early lock in a few decent min wage players for 1 or 2yrs and spend the rest upgrading blokes like Stef, Laurie, Blore etc.

up until Parra were knocked out there was 1 coach and 15 players who had worn the black ,white and tangerine at some stage left in the semis .....

I have no doubt at all we will be using this tactic.

On top of that im sure they are currently on the phone trying to angle for trades and arrange immediate/2021 releases for contracted players.

I can see us picking up one or two off of the available list, the other spots will be filled by the above methods.

And if we don't turn things around in the next couple of years the same thing will happen with the next crop of young guys we have coming through. Stef, Blore, Laurie etc will have agents knocking down their doors in the next few years with the old line of if you want to play finals football you have to leave the tigers

We need a backup fullback and a centre more than anything. Talau could miss a lot of games and Doueihi is our only other option at fullback besides Laurie.

Find a young fullback in reserves somewhere who can cover the wing too if necessary.

Logan dillon?

Tex hoy maybe?

Dillon is Papz 2.0
Should be treated and developed as such.

Tex Hoy isn't a first grader IMO.
He's not an ideal backup.

Hoy is dreadful under the high ball and his only real positive attribute is he's illusive with the ball. Hoy is notorious for colliding with his own team-mates as well.

What about Albert Hopoate as backup until Dillon is still developing.

It seems likely that the players we do sign will comprise of some combination of Sims, Elliot, Scott or Woods.

Woods to Manly.

Wouldn't surprise me if we sign 2 of the other 3 there...

Yeah Hoy isn't great but Cini makes him look like Tedesco.

Scott and Sims would be my pick and maybe pick up Marty Taupau off Manly if possible when Woods signs there.

Well our new Coaching Director brought through Tedesco. I have no doubt he will have a positive influence on Dillon and all our players. I am really looking forward to his influence on our younger players.

Can't tell if sarcastic or not lol

I am a big supporter of Sheens and always have been. I believe it is a very smart (Gould called it shrewd but for other reasons imo) to bring him home.

Will sheens be chief negotiator in recruiting?

Hartigan with assistance from Sheens are more than capable of carrying forward recruitment and retention. I see both as our biggest assets and both reflect positively on the WTs. I hope it works this way because speaking with Sharks' supporters in my area, all think very highly of Sheens.

Sheens is highly respected across the game. I am hopeful he can help us keep the young players and attract players to the club.

I think the later only works if we swap Garner for him.
We need to be careful of our strategy here. Sure we have 1.6 available this year. And if we keep the same squad on the same amount of money we would have 2mil with Moses cap freed up for 2023.

However and I have been pushing for Tapau and Sims and say we sign them for 2 years for 500k each as a hypothetical you still have 600 to fill the other 2 spots however if you sign tapau / Sims now and then in November start looking at signing Paulo / Kikau (hypothetically) for 23 there is really only the 400,000 from MBye of next year extra that we have to sign up either of these two.

So it doesn’t seem all that possible without moving anybody on.

So the only way it works is by signing for next year or for 23. I don’t believe we can do both.

If we are keen on say a Paulo we need to be talking to his manager now to gage his interest or do what the Warriors have done with Manu and tell Parramatta we plan on making a play for him once he is off contract.

Sims is an obvious choice for our young pack.
Now there's only a few teams left you can bet some skittles will start falling ... there might even be a few surprise departures from our ranks.

It wouldn't surprise me if some players left. We need unity for 2022 and can't afford players who have doubts about the coach or the organisation.

Cracks me up...
We've not had quality outside backs for so long - That anyone with any interest in the club is resigned to the thinking "We just don't need them"

Yeah my point was hoping pascoe hartigan Lee are no longer driving/flying off for the pitches anymore.
