Adam Elliott has officially signed with the Raiders.

With Elliott confirmed at the Raiders, I guess that means our next signing should be announced shortly

I don't think we announced Laurie's signing until late January...maybe February? Could be a few months still before we see something else develop. I hope not, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I just based that off the Raiders had cap issues, so to sign Elliott they would have to create space and logic tells me Hogo might be that space.

doubt Elliott will be on that much coin. Fogarty will be on less than what George Williams was, not to mention Soliola would've been on a decent wicket. the Raiders are a bit of a mystery, but I reckon they would've got Elliott for no more than $200k. the Hodgson dilemma has more to do with his and Ricky's relationship more than it does their cap situation.

I was never short of things to do in Canberra. There are lots of out of town public servants, especially young women, looking for a decent fellow to spend time with going out and having fun. I'd recommend it to young men and women alike.

If you like Liddle that doesn't mean you have to hate Jake Simpkin fellas, end of the day it's about the team not individuals 😂

Simpkin's just turned 20 and had 2 years of development disrupted by covid. He was doing well in reserves last year. Struggled in first grade sure, but wasn't ridiculously out of his depth. May be a world beater, may not. Worth persisting with at this point. Damien Cook didn't get a proper run in 1sts until he was 25. Koroisau couldn't really lock down a starting spot til his mid 20s. Not a position you're going to walk into firsts and gun it at unless you're a truly special talent (Smith, Farah, Grant).

I mean we've given Brooks, what? 8 years and he's no better as a haflback now than Simpkin is as a hooker. Yet we're committing to Brooks at 800k a year and looking to sign some 32 year old to stand in Simpkin's way?

No, guy is not better then Luke Keary, DCE, Adam Reynolds or Shaun Johnston. Yes he has talent. No not that much.

Yes he seems like a talented player with an Attitude problem. Cant work with people at well disciplined clubs.
Very Todd Carney or Ben Barba like.


Hoping that Hastings turns out to be a gun. Hoping he clicks with Brooks who is a more passive half and maybe he will. There is a stack of potential.

But not going to ride 2022 on him.

No, he doesn't have an attitude problem. If anything he will have the best attitude out of all the players at our club. Will form part of our future leadership group in Hastings, Utoikamanu, Doueihi.

This is quite ironic. As soon as you criticise players like Simpkin or Hastings, it’s seen as unfair. Yet for players like Brooks, Noffa and Liddle, it’s open slather. To the point where a lot of it gets personal. I’ve seen Brooks called an imp, Noffa is constantly referred to as Nofoalooza. But it’s the ones who criticise darlings like Simpkin and Hastings that get called out for being unfair and should rein it in. Classic double standards.

If you can't see the difference between being heavily critical of a teenage rookie and a player in their mid 20s who have failed every season then you should never judge a single player ever again.
Outstanding young players deserve the opporunity to develop their games and bodies into first grade standard. Players who have been playing first grade for years are open slather. If form or fitness still deny them the ability to play to their potential then questions will very correctly be asked about them.
Some clubs don't tolerate mediocrity. We have celebrated mediocrity for a long time now. It's our clubs most identifiable trait. The willingness to accept poor performance as acceptable. It isn't. This is why we haven't learned from previous mistakes and don't play finals footy.

No one is saying give up on Simpkin, at least I’m not. But I’ve failed to see what everyone else has seen, and don’t see what he’s done to earn this rite of passage to the number 9 jersey over Liddle, a guy who had 10 line breaks this season. If it was up to me, I’d have all 3 on the books next year.

Nineteen years old at DH is a massive ask - we don't know how good Simpkin is yet - nor should we. He is longterm why anyone would be rating him yet, good or bad is futile.
