TIGERS LOCK IN ROBERTS

The Tigers have officially handed James Roberts a top 30 deal. The Tigers enticed James Roberts back through a train and trial deal during summer but the ex-NSW centre has impressed enough to be given a full-time contract.

Roberts’ joined the Tigers last season on a cut-price deal. He played 11 matches in the top grade for the Tigers. Roberts is the 29th player contracted to the Tigers for next season, leaving them with one roster spot to fill.

Via Daily Telegraph

God help us. He was terrible last year.

A minimum salary player who filled in okay in a heap of games and you're saying he's terrible? He's a squad player, forget his name. look for someone else who can play like him for that salary.

Sometimes you all forget there is a salary cap and that means teams can't spend 800k on everyone.

Roberts filled his role just fine.

Also think there's still potential there. Either way this is decent business

Laurie played brilliantly on min $

JTJ flopped

Was Laurie on 150k?

I understand he was on roughly that and gets an increase this year (newspaper salaries)

Maybe Sheens asked him to trial at 6,it was always one of Sheens pet projects

Sport Confidential: Chris Lawrence quits role with Wests Tigers

Michael Carayannis
,
Brent Read
and
Jamie Pandaram

Club great Chris Lawrence parted ways with Wests Tigers last week in unusual circumstances. Find out why he quit the club.

Chris Lawrence quit his job at the Wests Tigers to attend his own testimonial last week after a Covid-19 scare shut down the entire club.

Under NRL’s rules, Lawrence was told he would have to isolate for at least seven days as he was considered a casual contact after a Tigers staff member tested positive.

That would have meant Lawrence would be sidelined from his own testimonial that took place last Friday to celebrate his decorated career.

Already the event had been postponed three times because of Covid-19 and it was on the verge of being cancelled again on the day.

Lawrence sought advice from NSW Health who deemed the ex-Kangaroo healthy enough to take part in his event provided he returned a negative test.

In order not to breach NRL rules though, Lawrence took the decision to quit.

He did not comment on Thursday.

Lawrence, a life member of the Tigers, had worked on a part-time basis with the club’s wellbeing department since retiring at the end of 2020. He also runs his successful One Wellbeing business which focuses on athlete education.

It is unclear if he will look to – and if he will be allowed to – return to his post at the Tigers in the short-term.

The Knights have shut down training for the rest of the year after a positive Covid-19 case to a development player while the Raiders had a staff member test positive on Thursday.

Resigning Roberts is great news he will be back to his best did not get good early ball last year from Douiehi hopefully Hastings changes that & if so watch Roberts become one of the best centre’s for 2022 I can’t believe so many people on this forum cannot see he still can be dangerous we need speed & he has plenty of it.

Tend to agree, just seemed to me that we gave him no opportunities and that we were totally clueless in regard as to how to use him.

Could say the same thing about Daine Laurie and that he should have featured much more in our attacking movements than what he did.

Will be interesting to see what happens in 2022 with new assistant coaches, a bit of spark in the halves and Sheens lurking in the back ground.

Hoping to see a much more entertaining brand of footy than what we have been seeing in recent times, we can only hope.

It was a Covid situation so he could get his testimonial out of the way having been postponed 3 times previously he'll be back

Signings for 2022 are still pretty light.

Yes, close to non existent

Gildart - Great Britain international
Hastings - GB international
Maumalo - NZ International
Tupou - ACT Brumbies and star raiders Junior
Peachey - recent NSW origin player

1 was here last year, 3 have no recent NRL experience and the last is a 30 year old that could not hold down a starting position at the Titans.

If we were semi finalists who had kept most of our roster, tinkering around the edges is acceptable. We needed major improvement and these guys are not that.

When your best 17 includes Kepoa, Garner and a question mark at centre, you are behind the eight ball to start with

I'm sorry but that is a falsehood regarding Peachey. By the end of the season he was first choice 5/8 for the Titans who played in the finals, he was picked ahead of a bloke they were paying $1mill a season

Maybe, but they showed him the door. GC

Maybe , but they showed him the door. . GC clearly didn’t rate him . His selection was probably “ best of a bad bunch” senerio . If he has the talent , clearly his attitude must of sucked. GC had the dollars to keep him & let go of him for a reason.

I remember hearing rumblings that he wanted to back-flip on his contract to GC while he was still at Penrith. If true, perhaps he was just doing what he had to until he could get out. Coming back to NSW might give him renewed vigour if he's happier. Best thing is that we'll be the beneficiaries if he rips it up.

I never rated JTJ before he even came here. His fitness level, defence and inability to pass wasn't good enough. Speed is fine if you get early ball but we never give our backs early ball so it's mute.

I don't mind him as a back up but I do not want him in the 17.

Yes but JTJ was injured.

The guy can play, its an attitude problem with a culture fit. Like Moses Suli and others, right culture and it will work.

Were not a good place for broken players. Hope we become this in the future but we aint this now.

The good news is JTJ can slide back into Center
The guy can go to the finals, has worked under Wayne Bennett and if our trainers are right he will fire this year.b

One of my friends in QLD said Bevan French has been around the city (Brisbane) for the past month or so.

I assumed he was trying to get a deal with Bronco's but it may have not worked out for him.

Few people saying he's no good.... quite an easy thing to say from the couch. He's a smaller guy but so is Corey Thompson, who played finals this year.

I wouldn't count him out, he could do a job.
For some club...

Not us though.
Newcastle maybe.

Him and his manager will be meeting with the dogs and eels

I loved the way JTJ reacted to Salami Kikau's tackle on his team mate and when a scuffle broke out he was trying to take the whole panders team on, loved it. Look guys, if he's fit and gets early ball I can see him working really well with Gilly as the pom has a stop start change up that can get JTJ into open space, hope these two can prove you critics wrong, seriously would you not want to be proved wrong!

I'm sorry but that is a falsehood regarding Peachey. By the end of the season he was first choice 5/8 for the Titans who played in the finals, he was picked ahead of a bloke they were paying $1mill a season

Best thing is that we'll be the beneficiaries if he rips it up.

yeah I remember that - he wanted out before he even went up there or something

Ah were talking about Peachy.
Good 14th position i think. I half wonder if we could have done better. I have been against signing Cotric but if we had no Peachy then I would be 100% for it.

Or maybe throw Peachy at the Centers and have Oliver Goldielocks come off the bench?
Peachy is used too the physicality of NRL.

JTJ needs decent/early ball and to be put into some space for once. He got nothing from the halves last year. I don't think I ever saw to guy hit more than 50% pace with the ball. Let the Ferrari loose on the autobahn.

Missing boys here @cochise @hobbo1 @happy_tiger

Come back dudes.

Don’t forget Willow

Their posting happily together on their own forum now.

Yeah. Just sooks

Dude, it was sook behaviour from posters that got them canned to begin with. Pot meet kettle.

Oh well mate. Don’t like it, go on there forum.

Who are you to tell me where to go? I’ve been here over 11 years, you’ve been here a couple months. Sit down and know your place.

Whilst I can understand the frustration of being a collective target of late, I am sure that you are also aware that you contribute by often being more forthright than most others. Still, your ultimate sentence has no place here other than fermenting discord and particularly so in the case of virginal members (and not saying the quoted is).

I don’t mind being a target, but I don’t take kindly to being told to go somewhere else if I don’t like what’s going on.

Suck it mate, long time coming.

A great Simpsons episode once said “hey there’s that boy who laughs at everyone when they’re banned, let’s all laugh at him !”

I have no love for gunners, having plenty of arguments over the years.
He said something silly about being here longer than someone else but I hope something as harmless as that isn’t what got him booted.
Comments like yours are even worse …just sound like a smarmy little kid in a schoolyard.

Wow if that’s what he got banned for then he should be back any minute now, given some of the other brain snaps we have seen return in no time.

I thought the mod style had changed.

Signings for 2022 are still pretty light.

Yes, close to non existent

Gildart - Great Britain international
Hastings - GB international
Maumalo - NZ International
Tupou - ACT Brumbies and star raiders Junior
Peachey - recent NSW origin player

1 was here last year, 3 have no recent NRL experience and the last is a 30 year old that could not hold down a starting position at the Titans.

Maybe, but they showed him the door. GC

I asked before if anyone knew if Peach was training in the centres. Reason being he did pretty good there for Penrith when he covered for injuries, although that was a while ago now. If there was little faith in our current ctrs, I figured they might have toyed with idea but seems he'll just settle into the pack.
