Brooks would be a better player if he just played a supportive role.
If someone makes a break you would have Laurie and Brooks backing up on either side.
A bit like Billy Smith and Graham Langlands.
The recent stats showing Brooks as a poor defender but didn't reflect he played more games.
It does highlight our edge defenders are not up to scratch because there were some notable players on that list that had poor defense but don't come under the same scrutiny because their teams had a better points differential. Lucy is going, does that mean someone like Garner gets more game time this year?
Personally I think we need another gun backrower who can tackle and be involved in set plays.
I know I'm going to get smashed here, however, a player like Ryan Matteson would be perfect. He and Papa would be lethal.
Is there someone out there available like him.

There was something I was thinking about Stef and Matteson... Matteson won games for us. He is money hungry and too mercenary for me to want him back. But Matteson actually won games for us on his effort.

All I am saying is I haven't seen Stef win games for us on his effort or performance. Taupau did, Matteson did, Liam Fulton did incredible work. I haven't seen that from Stef. Which means if Stef's new contract is 1 Mil... and hey I can see him being worth close for that... We need to think will Stef + our team get the win?

As for Brooks, I remember Michael Jennings being paired with Semi Radradra and being asked if he can give good ball to Semi. Jennings said "I hope Semi gives me good ball too!". In other words Jennings had the exact right attitude.

You say Brooks should run less and pass more. Flip it all Mbye seemed to do was have good hands.

There is that balance, that "is he going to run and take the line, OR is he going to pass. Do I commit or do i prepare for the offload?" Benji was one of the best to keep players guessing.

Brooks can play, he can get over the line. He cannot team manage. He has talent but you are right he does not pass and isn't dynamic enough to win games on his own. Put him behind a reasonable forward pack and give him early ball and he will perform.

Madge is known for getting attack structures right and working the team hard. We have OK attack but we don't have a smooth attack and that bothers me. That being said we don't have an aggressive forward pack so nothing is going to happen.

2022 will be the test. The forward pack will muscle up and be stronger under Cayless, not sure on defensive structure but we should see some grunt. Can Madge make a platform. Can Brooks perform and can Hastings and Brooks work together??? Huge questions

That guy was against free speech. He was against anyone having a differing opinion. He was against anyone having a bit of banter and/or fun. For more than a decade he heavily censored the opinions of hundreds upon hundreds of fans of this club, banning far too many in a show of absolute abuse of power.
His opinion of himself was so elevated that he scolded people daily on a football forum like they were toddlers.
He was so far up his own backside that he tied his identity to his moderation status and once removed, he scurried away like a rat.
I’m not woke in the slightest, but seeing his power removed was a breath of fresh air for this forum and I say that as a member who has been involved in it in various guises since before our premiership.
The fact he hasn’t stuck around without his badge speaks volumes.

I didn't mean for Brooks not to engage the line. He's made some breaks doing just that, but if the opposition thinks he's going to pass all the time then that's when holes will appear.
I did say "a player like Matteson" and they jumped on that 🙂
I like tall backrows who can defend, off-load and have football smarts.
I thought Cartwright was going to be one of those players. He was good early with Pamfers
Lucy is like that but not the best defender, shirt grabs.
Simpkins has a good offload and you never know could develope into that role.

Well said Cobes . Brooks is a running 5/8 & Hastings I think will organize & direct play & let Brooks run free. The edges in D have been woeful for the Tigers putting too much pressure on the defenders outside them. Some posters here forget Thurston hid in defence at outside center all his playing days. The club obviously recognize Brooks D is better than Thurstons.
Every half ever to play the game had at least one weakness on the field with one exception...The Great Andrew Johns.
