Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

If Ritchie's reports are accurate and Ivan Cleary will abandon the bus in 2020 to link with his son at the Broncos he may well as go now as far as I'm concerned..

Not if we aren’t in the race it’s not.

Considering Ivan will still be contracted to us it sort of is dissmissive of our position.

Contracts are not worth the paper they are written on, you know that. If he’s going to leave, it’s completely pointless keeping him on in 2020\. Better off letting him go and getting a replacement in ASAP. Fwiw, Cleary left the Warriors a year early too.

Get all of that.
The point is the way we are dismissed in this as if we are not even in the equation may not be what Cleary himself is thinking at this point, but its the inference that the media is suggesting based on their own views of our position as a club.

Don't see why it matters either way. If we aren't in the running, then they are reporting the truth. If not, and he has no intention of leaving, then great. Our club will win in the end. Then we can boast we fought off the two richest clubs in the competition.

I will bet my villa in the South of France that i do not own that if he signed elsewhere for 2021, the forum would be united in wanting him gone for 2020\. The thread would be 100+ pages.

Easiest way to see what will appen is to offer Ivan a 2 year extension at the end of this year so we have him for 2019 , 2020 , 2021 , 2022 , that's 4 years and if Nathan wants to play with his farther it will be in this time slot I think

My gut tells me Ivan wont leave Sydney. If we don't get him then he will go to another Sydney club.

Something tells me that if he doesn't do anything with us in the next year his stocks will start to tumble and he will only have his son as leverage.

I'm looking at all this angst about a rumour that the Cleary's are off to either the Capons or Broncos. Ok that may be true, but if so, why.
Why would Ivan Cleary ditch and run from what he has said is at least a three year rebuild? Money?
If Wests Tigers are any chance of being a viable business into the future, they must be able to compete with any offers made by other teams. If not, oh well, bye bye WT.
So making the grand assumption that Wests Tigers will make competitive offers what other factors come into play?
While it may be true that Wests Tigers have now sorted their 'behind the scenes' operations, disagreement between individuals in the merger resulting in years of clusterf–k management have left us with an ongoing legacy.
Take Wests Tigers home ground fortress for example. ??
Or how about Wests Tigers superior training facilities. ??
The perceived mismanagement itself has left the WT on the nose, up to and including the treatment of WT 'legends'. ??
Ivan may be finding it extremely difficult to convince quality players that things have changed at WT and it is a worthwhile career move to come here. Smoothing the waters by offering RF and BM the opportunity to finish their careers here may be a move too late.
If it is the case that Ivan is finding it so difficult to attract quality players thus making it impossible to complete his rebuild at WT, I could fully understand a decision to go elsewhere.
Glass half full, heres hoping that Ivan can get WT F-troop firing like they were earlier in the season.

I would chase Hipgrave , gave us plentyto think about last game , runs hard , hits hard and would stand up to the biff if required , he would be reasonable price to , Ben Barber I would grab Next and use him in the centre , , Then push for Cleary Junior early , then Peni Terapo from Parra , that would do for starters

What would you do next?

If its anywhere near accurate Pascoe needs to drag him into his office and sort this mess out. We have record membership and a swell of support.

This needs to be knocked on its head.

First question i would ask is what role has you and your sons ongoing contract rumours played in our mid season slump. have you started to lose the players respect?

Settle down peeps.

The media are clearly circling for a stoty and preying on the venurable

There nothing to it apart from all the good coaches tied up so makes sense they will go after ivan and nathan as a pagage deal.

Nathan more likely alone.

Do u think ivan will pack up his family again to Brisbane

Two weeks in a row now the team has walked into the sheds at half time and not come out. Its something like 58-0 in the second half against us.

Around here when that kind of thing happens its because the players are not buying into what the coach is saying.

Not sure if this is the case but it would be hypocritical of Cleary to ask his players to invest in a system that he himself is looking to get out of.

People need to chill.

Of course Ivan will be in demand when he comes off contract, just like every other half-decent coach in the NRL.

If we have the money to make him a competitive offer, and are operating in a professional manner off the field, then we are in the box seat to re-sign him.

If not, then we will sign another coach, and life goes on.

I wonder if the broncos or storm fans went into meltdown each time Bennet or Bellamy were linked to another club.

I believe Ivan just purchased a new property. As did Nathan, they wont be living together soon.

All this Ivan/Nathan package deal is rubbish. Clearly the coach is trying to pump up Nathans price.

Nathan will probably remain at Penrith. Yes they did his dad wrong but they haven’t done him wrong. They’re facilities are far superior to every clubs except Brisbane and they will be able to match every clubs offer.

The club should re-sign Ivan and put this to bed..

By the way…Parra need a halfback and coach...Ivan/Nathan are coming off contract...SCOOP?

Geez pay me as a journo

Agreed. I read the story, doesn't say anything one way or the other about Tigers. A whole bunch of fans has taken this as an indicating that we aren't even in the running, then they're off making plans for 2021, "oh but what if Ivan signs elsewhere, do we punt him for 2020?" Blah blah blah

The bloke is barely over 1 year into a 3.5 year deal, and a club being interested in him, or even approaching him, doesn't really mean anything. You don't think every top coach or top player has all the clubs approaching the manager about their plans?

And besides, I'm concurrently reading a whole bunch of other threads where people are saying Ivan can't coach, he recruits OTH busted players, he subs poorly, he can't get a team motivated all season etc. etc. So are those folks happy for Broncos to take him off our hands?

Such over-reactions, I know it's a noisy few, but when did a single article or bit of social media rumour drive such real-world concerns? Knee-jerk supporting. Worry about what Ivan does when he chooses to do it.

Also ignores the 50 articles from earlier in the year about IC and NC wanting to play with each other and suggestions Nathan will join the Tigers.
