Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Damn I thought we atleast had the young fella locked up. This club really loves being swooped in on the 79th minute. Been the story of our recruitment for ages

We have Soooo much money free we MUST make him an offer he cannot refuse. This is a massive moment for the club and if we lose him because we want to pay under's, I and others will be pissed.
If this Kid is as good as most say it should be a no brainer just like when Knights paid overs for Ponga.

A bit more in that SMH story:

Around the same time Bateman is adjusting to local time, assistant coach Benji Marshall is expected to meet Latu Fainu, the Sea Eagles youngster earmarked by the Tigers as the man to replace halfback Luke Brooks who has now attracted strong interest from the Dolphins.

There were whispers the Titans were also keen on luring the 18-year-old north, but it appears a race in two between the Tigers and Wayne Bennett’s newcomers.

Yet another new halves pairing, Daine Laurie and Brandon Wakeham, will be unveiled against the Cowboys, but both are off contract at the end of this season. The Tigers have already expressed interest in Cronulla’s Braydon Trindall, and have started to source options in the Super League.

Sam Walker’s off-the-cuff approach would work well under Marshall, but he is tied to the Sydney Roosters for another couple of seasons, while South Sydney’s Blake Taaffe, who is without a deal beyond this year – and is known as a fullback – won a Jersey Flegg grand final with the Bunnies as the starting halfback in 2019.

Trindall, Fainu, Walker, Taffe - at least we are looking at the right options

taafe is not a 7 he is a utility
Trindall would be great but won't happen
Fainu well we are against uncle Wayne we know how that turns out
Walker would be a good option
Keary maybe if Roosters want to move him on

No rush boys we haven’t had a halfback for the best part of a decade take your time weigh up the options of SFA

we apparently had made some enquiries about Keary but doubt he would come here either or Roosters would release him

I don't know, I wouldn't completely rule Taafe out as a 7. He has played there plenty as junior and does tick some boxes. Good short kicking game, decent long kicking, would be strong defensively, goal kicker and any player that can fill in at full back will have a decent running game as a 7. First grade experience and at the right age to make leaps in his game. Sometimes being a utility early in your career gets you experience without the number 7 pressure. I doubt there will be another Hynes situation, but you never know.
