I'd sign Brooks for 4 years for 800-900k

Imo he is only worth about 700k.

He has no Origin experience. He has no finals experience. Basically he hasnt performed under pressure at the top level.

Until he does he doesnt warrant that kind of money and id be happy for the club to draw a line around that mark and let him go if he wants more.

Agree. Probably worth 750k to 800k. No more at this stage.

In your 80 years or so of supporting Balmain/ Wests/Wests Tigers have we ever had a great, and I emphasise great 1/2 back? Tommy R and G Freeman were good…... tough as nails, but Brooks has the ability to top them both by a long stretch. I think your figure is a starting figure, that needs to be increased substantially by year 3\. He could very well be NSW 7 in 2020 and beyond given his age and predicted improvement.

I remember Luke on the news 3 months ago saying he wanted to extend his contract with us.
Ivan said he explained to Luke why he could not sign him yet, (So he could pump up Nathan's & his
own contract) Now Luke is worth a lot more. Nice one Ivan he still screw's us even after he is gone.

Yeah that’s my concern. I remember when the Roosters were after Teddy and all the talk was what Nick wants, Nick gets. At the time I thought “bull crap “ but it was true…..
Feel the same way.

Its all on Ivan Cleary, he didnt do his best by us.

Yes if the Roosters want a player they generally get them, he should of been locked down mid last season but that didn't suit Ivan's agenda. If Brooks leaves it will be on Ivan, not that he would care he just got the keys to Penrith.

If Brooks leaves for the Roosters good luck for him. As a player you want to win a premiership. At Roosters he might have the great Cooper Cronk mentor him.

Martin Taupau should be our next and last signing for 2018 unless Maguire cuts some of playing group like McQueen.

Twal should be given first opportunity at lock.

Looking forward to Marsters continuing to develop into a fine centre.

Lol, who was that? Yappy ? Or was that Alan? I’m guessing Al is Chippy. Either way you get the point, they are few and far between.

And then there was Brian Smith

Hhe never gets the raps he deserves , just ask Allan Jones

I think what has happened to our club over the past few months may drive Brooks to maybe stay!

He might look at Cleary and think…...I’m not going to walk aswell.
There’s talk of Teddy in his ear and all the other rubbish, Benji, Robbie and Lawrence would be doing the same thing.
I’d be gutted if he left, I think he’ll be one of the games best halves in few years if not sooner.

It's not all on Ivan at all.
Brooks is the one with the pen in his hand. He can sign wherever he chooses.

Brooks supported the tigers as a kid. I believe he loves the club and providing they look after him, he will stay. There is a reason why the sharks, panthers, roosters and broncos can assemble such a great squad and it is to do with the fact that their players will take a little less to keep the team consistently strong and this is where WT needs to get to.

It is already happening with Lawrence, and Cleary admitted after Woods, Moses and Tedesco left that we could strengthen other positions. When we did so we came 9th.

My expectation is that the club understands that Brooks accepted less to sign last time to prove himself and that his success since then should be rewarded. I think he will give the tigers last say and providing the money is close it is my belief that he genuinely wants to stay a one club player.

I enjoyed reading your post. I'm confident the club will look after Brooks and that he will stay.

Brooks comment after Tedesco commented about finally playing finals footy worries me

He wants to play finals footy , it will come down to whether he thinks we can get there in his next contract

If he doesn't believe we can I reckon he will leave unfortunately

Do you not think signing a premiership half is a better option when they come available?
If Brooks is keen to leave I’d go straight to Cronulla and talk to Chad or Kyle and test Flanagan and see where his alegiances lie.

A 3-yr contact around $750-800k with some incentives built in should be plenty. If we keep building the team and keep progressing, I can’t see why he would want to leave. If he leaves, he leaves, we will survive.

I think he’ll be able to get more than that elsewhere. There are not a lot of great halfbacks out there coming off contract and he had a very good season in a pretty ordinary team. If we want to keep Brooks we’re going to have to pay up and I don’t think 750k a year is anywhere even close..

Cannot understand the hysteria regarding an article in the Telegraph!! Brooks was put on a fair contract at a time when we were trying to resign Woods and Tedesco. He was told to improve, which I think he has done.

**If there was a danger of him leaving, I doubt he would be on the website modelling the new jersey!!** I would like to think the club has learnt from these types of mistakes the last few years.

Totally irrelevant. Tedesco and Woods were front and centre for all the clubs marketing while they were off contract and long after they’d signed for other clubs. Don’t be naive and think that means anything.

Well if we can't re-sign brooks their are a few options available next year (although not heaps) we have Johnson , Mitch Moses coming back which could be an option given Ivan has gone, TeMair Martin who I think we should go after either way with Benjo retiring and hm not quite winning a starting spot with the Cowboys and Ata Hingano who has been through 2 systems and looked ok without quite making it. However I personally expect we will resign Brooks
