Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Garner deal to Manly apparently all but signed off on.
Tigers really trying to free up roster spots, not so much cap space.
Player market could be very interesting this off season. A lot of clubs in trouble with Salary cap etc due to the drop so i have been told.

Personally i think McIntyre has forced the club to consider releasing Garner. He has had a great debut year and think he could really make that spot his own next year.
Hopefully Blore can get his fitness up and would make a great impact off the bench.

I think Garner is worth keeping for what it’s worth...he seems to link well with Brooks

however if were to get into a bidding war for overs, manly can definitely have him

Wouldn't be a bidding war, he is signed with us for next year already.

Ah. Wasn’t aware of the situation cheers

Either way, I don’t think I’d be too upset if we lost him

I believe he is signed with us until the end of 22, with Manly enquiring about us releasing him.

Was told last week the Garner deal is done. This came from a guy who works for a company that has half the Manly players on their books.

Shame about Garner if true. Have always thought he had a lot of ability just needed to get more involved and up his workrate and desire. Some lateral movement D issues to improve on as well. Under a coach or a system that can get the best out of him he could be a very good player. For some reason historically WTs as a Club can’t seem to do this. Maybe Madge doesn’t get the response at training that he wants from Garner as well, as i have said before, if we are willing to let him go we must get a starting 17 edge player to replace him otherwise we are going backwards not progressing.

I'll laugh if Pom comes on says, yeah mate, I'm doing good, and that's it.

I think that is the problem right there...."Garner has the ability but needs to up his workrate and desire". This has been our clubs biggest problem for a long, long time now (more likely since our inception).
We have always had an abundance of talented players who aren't prepared to work hard on their own game. I think Madge is trying to weed those players out of our system. We'd be better off with less talented players who bust their gut with commitment every week.

What's the deal with RTS? Articles about him maybe switching to union. Thought he was on a massive long term warriors deal.
Surely being in the NZ camp, Madge would have a crack if he was unsigned?

Wants to go back to NZ

ahk gotcha.

But Warriors are based in Australia now
So NZ needs a team of their own
Tigers can now be relocated to NZ and RTS can join the Tigers
We will even throw in the NZ coach
Its a win win win
Everyone is happy

Talking about coaches Walters confirmed as Broncos Coach what does that mean to us.
Will his son join him after the following season?
Grant where will he end up?

As others have suggested with current players available on the Market hold tight with no more signing we don't want to pay overs for dud players like have in the past.

Sheesh! Major case of depression!
I think it may be time to change clubs.

Yeah that's the spirit??
Bandwagonning is back in vogue huh?

Unfortunately we need a starting side of what you’ve mentioned above and a bench of talent, speed and enthusiasm.

Garner was exposed defensively this season at the line but I can’t question his effort just more so the approach. We lack enforcers, so Mc or Blore on an edge give us more steel.

Manly are surprisingly rebuilding a little. A lot of youth in that side and Garner will do well playing outside Walker or Foran. May have been ok on the left with us but Madge made a very early descision to blood a new left side combination with Lucy and Brooks. Maybe we’ll see Joey feature on the left next year now that Lucy has had a year of defence on the left.

Garner gone would be a good thing. His entire highlights reel is basically running into holes, which the halves put him into it. Any decent backrower can do that. Once in the hole, he looks clueless most of the time.

Then there is his defense........

Front on he is solid, but WAY too many missed arm grabs on our line led to tries. Horrible help D for the smaller players inside. A massive liability. His arm grab misses directly led to a lot of tries this season.

Blore in = massive upgrade.
McIntyre = massive upgrade defensively.

Milford is the exact kind of player I would hate the club to sign. We don’t need any more of these lazy, uninspiring fellas chewing up our cap.

Mbye can continue to chew it up then
In a club trade, we won't get a Addo-Carr calibre player for an Mbye calibre player
Both are on similar $
Both have a similar ability
A change of scenery for both of them could work well, and it may not
Nothing ventured nothing gained

Both players have been next to useless
But at least it would be as Bellamy says

"A like for like trade"
12 months would be fine by me as I can't see us unload Mbye any other way
Unless of course we just Liquidated him
And that would just be a loss for us with no chance of any kind of improvement

Brisbane cld be an option with Kevin there

Although not on huge $ you’d expect Billy Walters to go to Brisbane too

Don't know - they ain't the Clearys.

It certainly has an upside that I don't feel you are not conveying thus far, in that Milford only has one season to run and Mbye a couple more to go. I don't have a problem with Moses staying, but if a different direction is preferred, we then get the option of offering to keep Milford on if it works out, else placing the big dollars available in 2022 elsewhere to fill a void.

Very interested to see who Madge wants to bring over if he’s still trying to free up roster spots. Don’t blame him for pushing hard to keep turning our roster over and with Blore being signed up and McIntyre having a breakout season it makes sense to let him go.

Garner wouldn’t be on massive money but I reckon he would be on a good $300k which definitely could be used.

Yeah, I'm a little sorry to see Garner go. I thought he was going to be something special - he still might be in time.
However, I guess it all depends on who we attract as a replacement. That's the crux.

I think proper defensive coaching he can flourish. Positional defense can be coached, however raw strength cannot...i remember seeing him pick up Tedesco and slam him on his back a few weeks ago. And teddy is not small by any means

Will probably improve bucket loads at manly, dessie seems to have the knack of getting the best out of his edge backrowers

So far, we know nine are going (seven released yesterday, plus McQueen and Grant). Tamou and Utoikamanu are coming as, we think, is JAC and we've promoted four from the development squad for 2021. Also squad size reduces by two.

So that's nine out, seven in and two fewer spaces. As things stand we can't add anyone else to the roster unless we release more. The noise about Garner makes me think the club is probably giving up on shifting the dead weight at the top of the cap, sadly.

I may be wrong about these numbers, BTW - happy to be corrected if so.

I think the squads will be staying at 30.
