Much as I rate Madge, be silly not to have a crack at Bennett. Amazing coach. Wouldn't have to be worried about the inevitable rebuild after we win the premiership, we seem to be doing that every year anyway?

No thanks. This is not the time to be even thinking about changing coaches. Talk about insanity. What we need is stability and support for Madge.

How many coaches did roosters have before they got it right?
Players want to play for Bennett. I'm not the biggest fan of him, but he can coach

I'm not sure whether Robinson can take too much credit for the last few good years the Rorters have had. Unlimited salary cap would be more to the point IMO. The year they had a few injuries ('16 or '17) they finished 2nd last.
A quality, stacked roster is more important to success than a coach.

Yeah Cleary
Eat that you bum

I give up. How many?

More than us

Incorrect PJ.

Rorters - 6 coaches since 2000 and 4 premierships 2002, 2013, 2018, 2019
Tigers - 8 coaches since 2000 and 1 premiership 2005

It will be interesting what we do from here:

2021

**Option A:** give up on recruiting for a while...cop some heat...and just sit it out in the event of other teams need to clear room come Jan / Feb. Risky if no one becomes available / risky also if you end up with guys like DWZ. Best available player rather than what you really need.

**Option B:** Take on some big names who are openly being offloaded: Lodge, Bird, Moylan etc. Probably could make 7-8th IF they all had good years / injury free. Massive trouble if they did not.

**OptionC:** Aim at 2022. Build slowly...it will mean finishing 10-14th etc in 2021 and copping a year of bad media / fan's frustration...Madge and co will be hammered...but can position ourselves with young players 'and' cap space by 2022.

Personally, I feel like C is the best option. I can't imagine Madge letting 2021 go though...

Yep, just tread water for next year (while hopefully improving our culture and our defence) then go hell for leather in '22.
Would take a risk on Lodge for 1 year, maybe 2.
Xavier Coates might be worth a look to, he is off-contract this year or next.

Absolute and emphatic NO from me for Lodge - just a total lowlife and not that good anyway.

Lodge is last years player too slow, no sideways movement. Doesn’t have the heart to do the yards under Madge anyway

I’m reluctant to just excuse it or simply call it a disgruntled players exaggeration

I think the best approach is to treat comments like the ones you heard exactly as players being upset because they weren't good enough. I spoke to some players a while back. One of them was young Dylan Smith. He told me that it was a cut throat business. Players have to perform and they are going to get disgruntled. This is the big show.

This was around the time the club was borrowing money from the NRL and then Anasta came out publically with similar claims. Point is we are trying to shake off a reputation that has some substance.

Curtis really shouldn't be saying that stuff to the public though.

But the WT have been run by a boys club for too long now, creating a poor culture of sooks and dummy spitters.

At least now we've got money and are building a new culture

I’d like to see the club sign Madge for another three years. He seems dedicated to the cause and willing to challenge the boys club. I feel he won’t stick around if we continue to miss on recruiting targets though.

He deserves a 12 month extension to see what he can do. I am on the fence with him. Yes he doesn’t have the roster (although one of the reasons he got the gig was because he said he could do something with the cattle at his disposal) but there are many rumours and innuendo regarding his communication that is concerning.

He needs to get us to the eight by the end of 2022. It’s a results driven business and we need to see them.

For me you cannot judge him until another 2 years time when all the past mistakes are gone.
He didn't sign any of them and was not the cause for the salary cap breach..
Considering he has had no money to deal with he has done an outstanding job in identifying young talent that don't cost an arm or leg plus added players like AD, AJ, Stefo, Tamau, BJ and i'm sure there is a few more but you get the picture. How many has he brought that have been duds ? ? Not many for me maybe BJ but I think he just needs more ball to be involved.
He has also given pretty much every player game time to allow them to prove themselves before making the call to not resign them. I applaud that

Just regarding the rumours of his communication - For me these concerns are coming out from the players he has advised are not a apart of the future and not resigned. These players have had a soft ride for the last 5-10 years and we now get a coach that knows what it takes to win and they are crying because its too hard. If belly come here to coach he would be doing the same thing and I bet no one would question it.. Yes you need to adapt your coaching to different players but the players need to adapt to a winning coach who knows whats needed because none of them do and the proof is in the last 8 years of failure.

I truly believe he is going to change this club around and be the long term coach here and totally trust his future recruitment decisions until he proves me wrong.

Or
we can do what we have always done and fire him and get another coach so the players can blame him for there failures. (not many good coaches out there to choose from).

I would extend him for another 2 years to show the players he is here long term.

Great post. Nice work :+1:

Bennett these days is just the front man for the media, the recruitment magnet and a father figure. His assistants do the coaching

Works tho

Disagree I think Robinson is a great coach and seldom gets the credit he is due. Sure he has a star studded roster and a massive budget but he can coach and sometimes it is not as easy gig coaching a team full of over paid egos

Not saying he's a bad coach but that one year they couldn't field a team with 12 or more rep players they nearly got the spoon. More than just coincidence IMO.

Bennett is NOT what we need and we are NOT he needs.
He is seriously only doing well because of the players he has at his finger tips.
Nursing home thanks

Looking at our roster and depth our recruitment targets should be obvious.

Middle Forwards: Twal, Mikalele, Utoikamanu, Tamou, Musgrove, Aloai, Packer, McIntyre

Edge Forwards: Leilua, Garner, Blore, MCK
Hookers: Liddle, Simpkin
Halfbacks: Brooks, Madden
5/8: Reynolds, Walters
Centres: Mbye, Leilua, Talau, Hoffman
Wing: Nofa, Kepoa, Kei, Bradley
Fullback: Douihei

Douehi and Mbye can cover 5/8, Centre and Fullback. Mbye/Walters also at hooker

In a perfect world Packer is moved on to give us more balance in the cap and also roster spots. Way too many middle forwards with a lack of depth and talent in the outside backs and halves.

Fox or Suali as a fullback with Douihei to 5/8 improves the team and depth. We need a fullback, edge back rowers and centre/wing.
Releasing Garner with our lack of depth is a questionable move.

Seem to have a lot of centres at the moment, hopefully Kepaoa can lock down the left wing position,I would also like to see him given a shot in the centre’s as well,Fullback is crucial,if Addo-Carr is no certainty then I hope there is someone else they have there eye on,2nd row your right Tyga need more depth

I think it will be Mbye at fullback.

I enjoyed the last few games Kepaoa played....he seemed to come along quickly

Would love too see Mbye find his confidence and speed at fullback, but if he performs anything like the last 2 seasons then he won’t be the answer

Unless they are holidaying in regional Turkmenistan

Right but have you ever been to regional Turkmenistan? So beautiful this time of year and very easy to socially distance.

I'd love to see the singing book in the middle of Ashgabat that opens daily and recites sections from the book that their first president wrote (who was a failed engineer,) and considered that it should be as revered as the Qur'an.

Afterwards you can take a road trip down to Mary, to view the World's Largest Yurt.

I think we looked better this year when Mbye was at fullback and Doueihi at centre.

I liked Douehi at number 6, and I know not everyone would agree because some of my tigers mate don’t.
But I think if we don’t sign JAC than we should put Nofo at the back, in that eels game when Marshall left the field, Nof was everywhere in support and maybe not everywhere in defence but that’s all part experience.
I would be inclined to try the spine of Nof, Douhei, Brooks and Walters.

Really we seem to sit on our hands when it comes to signing players , we get locked in with 1 or 2 players and when they fall throw , the other clubs have picked the best of the rest . We will end up with nothing but inexperienced players , we need hard nosed forwards who run hard and hit harder , not young kids .

Inside knowledge of our dealings with players or just going of what's in the media?

Pretty clearly just the media and this forum.
2022 is when we'll have some good signings.

And when we get to 2022 (if we make that far) we will all be saying we just need to be patient, we’ll get some good signings next season, but next season never seems to come.

Yeah ok. Said every Bennett critic ever.

Guy knows how to get this team to win.

End of discussion.
