Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Sorry guys its like another back friday sale.Money in the pocket and buy something you don't need.Same as LM,JAC,Harry,Cheese and others.I'm anxious as well to get quality, but this position is not a priority to me.Save the dollars for Fb,2nd rower and 1/2.McInnes is a good footballer but better value will appear over coming months.Hartigan is smart and if it goes ahead fine, but i doubt they will pay the money mentioned in the forum.

Blore said that Stefano was one of the fittest forwards at the club so I wonder what ronnie means with that comment

He's come from Parra.

They have a talented roster, but look how they petered out towards the end of the season and how they failed in the finals.

Parra seem to be great at recruitment... but Brad Arthur will never lead a team to a Premiership.

Perhaps thats what he is hinting at?

Won’t take him long to learn the Madge ways. He’s a giant and super fit he could become anything

Tbh, I think parra suffer from something similar to what we do:

Tigers: Choking to final play offs
Vs
Parra: Choking to grandfinal

I remember start of the season first 6 rounds they were all anyone talked about, went so fking well. I don't think its a couch thing, same with us, but more mentality.

Both teams have just been expected to not get there for so long and the players are subject to that feedback for ages. Mind you I hate parra, but i feel bad as I see some similarities.

Liddles ability and durability is unproven at this stage.Simpkins at 19 aint quite ready in all probablility
But why chase a "top 6"hooker at big $$ without **taking a peek under the hood and see what these two can do?**?
If were gonna spend that sort of $$ ,grab a proven full back or half back..and get someone better than 6th best!!
We need to aim higher

You could say that about any young player on our books
We cant continually wait and see how our younger players go
We need to act when someone becomes available
Look at Melbourne
Brandon Smith
Cameron Smith
Harry Grant
All hookers and all play for Melbourne
What's wrong with us getting a proven Hooker
If liddle or Simpkin fire then we are in a great position
Liddle can go to Hooker
McInnes can go to lock
We can loan out Simpkin just like Melbourne did with Grant
We will have bargaining power for once
It would be a great position to be in when we hold all the chips
Its not about halting the development of Simpkin as he can still be developed
Liddle can still be 1st choice Hooker
Its his job to keep it
It puts our club in a much stronger position

Those 3 top class hookers you named from Melbourne, where did they sign those from?

What position does Brandon Smith play at Melbourne
He plays lock and can move to Hooker if required
I think they call that checkmate

Its not about being Developed at the club or Signing from another club
Look how many players the Roosters by in from other clubs
Parramatta do it
Canberra do it
Every club signs players from other clubs
We are no different
The way I see things panning out is either Liddle or Simpkin will move on as only one of those will get a starting spot at hooker for us
Over the next few years as Simpkin will be ready if he is good enough and he will take over from Liddle or he will move on to another club
So then we are back to one hooker
Having a lock who can play Hooker is a big bonus
But that's alright
We have Mbye to slot in
I personally think having a Hooker who can play lock in our team and in the run on side, and can sure up our defence and play 80 minutes gives us a huge advantage, especially if our starting hooker gets injured
What is not to like about that

All good points. The big but is this Douihi only played 1 game at 5/8 ,i like him but seriously is he a game changer? Momo,TT, JL,would they be in another sides top 13? We as yet do not have a FB or goal kicker. Jimmy ,can he perform? Will Brooks perform with a stronger pack?We have Liddle ,can he overcome injuries? Simkin ,unproven but great prospect. And we are thinking of buying another hooker?I'm sorry but i see priorities in a different way.

If McInness comes to us he'll play 13. You need a ball playing lock nowadays as the game is more centered around the ability to score points. The Twal mould of lock is over.
He'll play a role very similar to what Radley does at the Roosters

If you watched him when he played lock he barely passed it once. He just ran and got quick play the balls

I watched all the Dragons games in 2020, my better half and her family are all die-hard Dragons supporters.

At lock, McInnes helped them win 4 out of the 6 games he played there. Sure he played a fast running game, but he also laid a platform for the Dragons to attack on both sides of the ruck.

Some WT forum members seem to discount the importance of a ball playing lock in the modern game.

It's now even more important with the 6 again rule change.

The speed of the game has gone to another level - if we don't catch up we'll get left behind.

I wonder, does McInnes have the ability to play a role like Cameron Murray? Cam Murray absolutely lacks size but he has tenacity, a great football brain and super-fast PTBs. He just gets himself in the right spots all the time and keeps going and going. If you can replicate that output with another smaller-size lock (i.e. non-prop lock) then it's definitely worth pursuing.

Have a look at this photos

See many people?

Out of all.... look at Seyfarth... BIG unit

Also Ky Rodwell just below him

Yes he is a big unit, never realised he was so big, I see why Madge wants to give him another year?

Exactly, but where are you going to find "Our energizer Lock?" I don't think McInnes is he.

Besides both B Smith and McInnes want to play hooker, so the search continues!

So which of the Rodwell boys is Ky related to .....Matt or Brett .....

Pretty certain I read on here somewhere that he is Brett's son. If he turns out like his Dad it'd be great, that Steeler was a good player.

Yes he is Brett Rodwell's son. I hope he makes it at WTs.

Culturally McInnes is a good recruit.

However we dont need to pay top dollars unless theyre top players in their position.

Liddle has my support for the next 2 seasons to.grow into the role.

Lets not forget Benji, Teddy both had major injuries in their careers before kicking on.

No more buying players and playing them out if position.

McInnes wouldn't be out of position at lock.

He's been rated the 6th best NRL lock in 2020, and for a smaller mobile lock his defensive tackle count at 978 - 95% efficiency is outstanding. Although I do agree with a lot of forum members that signing him is a pie in the sky dream.

Liddle and Simpkin should definitely be our 9's in 2021, but if we could sign him I'm sure he'd make a massive impact to our spine and pack.

...and he could also jump into 9 where needed, which would give us a huge edge.

They need 1 in case Laurie gets released ,probably concerned about injuries to the halves with no more backup in JR and Benji .,and waiting to see what happens in trials .I'm not against McInnes but you can buy some really top class players for 6 or 700'000. dollars, I think they were testing the waters in their chat with him, But i'm only guessing like all others.

McInness makes perfect sense for us. If he used to play 9 he obviously has ball playing abilities which will serve him well at 13. Also 700k is not top dollar anymore. Moreover, he made the Origin extended squad which no one on our team did so having arguably the best player on the team for 700k is a no brainer
