Really hope one of Liddle or Simpkins becomes ABOVE average in 2021,plus weve got Walters floating around from May
Weve got no back up in the halves, and a makeshift fullback

How many top 10 players do we have in our team right now? He’s a top 10 hooker. I’d argue he’s better than Friend and Hodgson too. Maybe not worth $700k, but he’s better than average that’s for sure.

You are delusional if you think Josh Hodgson is not as good as McInnes?

Blimey Charlie Russell I just dunno...here it is Christmas/Boxing Day :christmas_tree: :cherries: :church: :mother_christmas: ...a time of the year that should be about Peace and Love for our fellow man/woman and your telling @JC99 he's delusional.

Is it possible for you to just pull your head in for one day of the year...at least?
Anyway...I hope you had a happy :christmas_tree: :mother_christmas: Christmas Day, but it doesnt seem like you did and I'm disappointed :disappointed: for you if that's the case .

You berate me saying delusional and then tell me to pull my head in - double standards there I think Maggie.

What did you want me to say? - probably nothing.

Presume you think that people should have their say and nobody should say anything in return or maybe something like...

"Oh! I say JC99, I would just like to mention that I think you could be incorrect (to my mind that is), however please don't take offence at what I said, wouldn't want to hurt your feelings, so please forget I said anything at all, or that I am even alive".

Nah! I don't think so ~ I've been called delusional many times on here, that I write rubbish, I am stupid, I'm a fan boy etc.etc.

You can pass an opinion on a public foum - that does not exclude you from being pulled up on a point or to be critisised.

kind of don't want McInnes just will stop Liddle and Simpkin's development

McInnes was on the extended bench for NSW this year. Would do almost anything to block Liddle’s development tbh, I don’t rate him at all and think the bloke has had enough chances. Everyone wanted grub out when he was constantly injured, that’s the sort of gist I’m getting with Jacob. Have McInnes starting at hooker with him moving to lock mid-game to pave way for Simpkin

I disagree with this completely . Liddle is a weapon . It was clear when he returned , how direct he plays as well as his manipulation around the ruck . He puts his forwards onto the ball, and his ruck deception, creates space for his halves who are close to the ruck , especially on kicking options .
And I haven’t even mentioned the thing everyone notices , his speed and ability to get out .
Grants , passing out of the ruck was bog average in my opinion . We went from one of the teams making the most metres , to one of the teams making the least in 1 season . I think that was the transition from Robbie to grant as much as the forwards shat the bed this year.
Grant is an awesome footballer , I’m not saying he’s not, but Liddle is a better dummy half than grant . Grant is a better footballer .

??? we conceded double the amount of points mid-way through the season without Grant and having Liddle in the side. I don’t care if you think he’s good, the problem is **he’ll do another ACL before the first 10 rounds**. Just watch

Thats crystal ball talk
But ? I would like to know from everyone on the Forum, especially those reluctant to sign McInnes , who do we have that is good enough to play Hooker if Liddle goes down in the 1st few weeks
Or do we just write off our season again because there is always next year

Promote Simpkin to top 30 and take a punt
Probably too soon for Walters to fill a gap
We are short a hooker this year, but McInnes is a 2022 signing so he’s also not the solution to that problem either

Talk of Walters going to Brisbane?
Not sure when
Simpkin is still a bit green but I agree to give him a chance to show what he has got if at all possible
But we really don't want to rely on that scenario
I realise McInnes is for 2022 at this stage, but things could change here
An early release?
I still believe we will need another hooker to cover Liddle and Simpkin
An experienced one at that
I think we all know Walters will join his dad
? Is when
Liddle has 1st dibs on Hooker
He either holds that position or looses it to Simpkin
One way or another, we lose one of those two players unless they want to play second fiddle
B Smith wants a hooking roll so count him out for now
McInnes is the best option I can see for our club at the moment
A player happy to play lock, but can step up to Hooker if required
At least then we are covered by someone very capable
Not an Mbye

This is just my 2 bobs worth
It is something Madge needs to carefully consider
Without upsetting the ? cart

If the Coach and support staff can bring Grant along make him a better player (Although was a 1st grader without game time prior) why can't we do that with the current Roster of hookers.

Simpkins long term seems from all reports will be the likely successor and get some game time this season, Liddle needs to prove himself with a full season injury free?

Personally am more concerned with the backs now than forwards in relation to depth. We have an untried spine most likely missing a fullback option and a half that has not measured up despite a number of years playing in the role.

Think we are holding back our 3 signings based upon Trial and Train which is smart as well, rather than spending the cap.

I reckon that’s about spot on.

That we are meeting with 9’s says to me that Madge isn’t certain about who will make it and is looking at plan b. McInnes would fit the bill nicely next year. Can’t see the queens releasing him early unfortunately. That still leaves us a little exposed this year

Just Jumping to the earlier comment:
"I still believe we will need another hooker to cover Liddle and Simpkin
An experienced one at that
I think we all know Walters will join his dad"

So we have Walters, Liddle and Simpkin who can play hooker. Now were talking of hiring a 4th hooker?
Why don't we ask Matt Ballin to come back out of retirement? Worked last time we had 3-4 hookers on the books, not.

At the moment with Douleini moving to 5/8 we have no fullback and I think Mbye will probably get the job there. As much as Mbye was a mistake I think it may not be a bad move to put him at fullback and wait for a top shelf fullback to come on the market (then buying someone not ideal). Either way our forward pack is a bigger concern followed by fullback.

Why do we want 3 hookers on the books? Why on earth do we want 4??

Lets throw Liddle at it. If he falls this year, he falls. If he succeeds he succeeds. If he is not ready now he will never be ready. Hire Angus Crichton or someone decent forward and make our pack feared again! Let the rest work themselves out without having to deal with defense for 80 minutes.

Watched the James Graham doco on Kayo for a bit of kill time the other day. He was asked which players he looked up to on and off the field during his career and he singled out Cameron McInnes and Mick Ennis as two. Considering his long career, it wasn’t a name I thought would come up.

McInnes would be a great buy depending on the money. Has exceptional leadership, one of the best defenders in the comp and plays well at dummy half or lock.

McInnes at lock would allow us to carry an extra forward on the bench in place of a second dummy half. McInnes could give Liddle/Simpkin a break if needed and allow us to blood Simpkin slowly. I’m also not convinced Liddle is ready for 80mins every week. I do believe that Liddle and Simpkin are probably the future at hooker, but McInnes is a strong lock who plays above his weight and gives us other attacking options. Depending on Madge’s plan moving forward we may see a return of a smaller lock with the game speeding up.

NRL transfer news: Corey Allan and Josh Mansour contract demands prove a stumbling block

Two sticking points are standing in the way of Josh Mansour and Corey Allan from securing deals with rival clubs for 2021.

Tricky contract demands continue to prevent two backline stars from finding news homes for the 2021 season.

South Sydney outside back Corey Allan and veteran Penrith winger Josh Mansour both remain contracted to their current clubs for next year, despite being told they are free to secure deals elsewhere.

The Daily Telegraph has been told Allan’s management could be pricing the 22-year-old out of a deal.

It is understood Allan is currently on a deal worth about $330,000 at Souths, but one rival club has revealed they had been quoted a figure as high as $500,000 a season for the outside back.

After an impressive season for the Rabbitohs, in which Allan came in on the wing before admirably replacing the injured Latrell Mitchell at fullback in their surge to the preliminary finals, the former Broncos junior then earned a Queensland call-up with Wayne Bennett’s State of Origin-winning game three side.

At just 22 and with only 29 NRL appearances to his name, Allan will only get better. That step up to rep footy has increased Allan’s value, but to a point where some clubs are baulking at the asking price.

The stumbling block with Mansour, who coach Ivan Cleary told just 72 hours after Penrith’s 26-20 grand final loss to Melbourne that he would not be in the Panthers’ starting side in 2021, is the longevity of the deal his management is seeking.

While there have been talks of offers of one and two-year deals, a number of clubs interested in the star winger have been unwilling to meet the demand of a three-year contract.

The Wests Tigers have been mentioned as a possible home for Mansour, with the Concord-based club already picking up his former Panthers teammate James Tamou and having missed out on Josh Addo-Carr.

Both Allan and Mansour are well within their rights to stay put and fight for their places. It’s believed coach Wayne Bennett would happily keep Allan at the Rabbitohs, but doesn’t want to see him stuck behind Mitchell waiting for an opportunity for regular football in a stacked backline.

Canterbury have the salary cap flexibility and the roster space for one, perhaps two, outside backs, and could offer Mansour a one-year deal, but they would be reluctant to extend that any further given they have Melbourne’s State of Origin winger Addo-Carr joining them for four years from season 2022.

The Daily Telegraph has been told there is mutual interest from both Mansour and Parramatta, where close friend Reagan Campbell-Gillard made a successful transition in 2020.

One problem is that the Eels would likely need to move on veteran winger Blake Ferguson to make the move work. The other issue is Parramatta would not be looking at a long-term deal that would potentially block the path to an NRL berth for a host of their young outside backs, including Patrician Brothers Blacktown schoolboys star Sean Russell and The King’s School prodigy Viliame Penisini.

Jennings is an outstanding defender and, while youngster Haze Dunster looks to have a solid future in the NRL, the loss of the 32-year-old is certainly a short-term headache for the blue and golds.

With Crichton and Laurie and another strike player either bought or promoted for 2022 we turn into a very good side, billiant backs are a necessity today, all the top sides have at least 2 or 3 .

Sounds like an echo from Arthur’s day, McInnes, Mick Ennis, where’s me Guinness? Are we still in the hunt for Harry? I’m not sold on McInnes, by the time he gets here (2022) Simpkin will be our established 9.
