There's no way mck is actually that size.

Tigers website.

Those numbers aren't always accurate but MCK is a pretty big dude. Certainly could play lock given his size however he's too poor a defender to be considered there

Still like Twal for lock. What gives the impression the coaching staff thinks he was a failure there?
Those questioning his passing. He was involved in a number of movements that led to tries as a link man.

Joffa has played a lot of lock over the years. He's always been a prop/lock. A powerful workhorse. Forget last season. Seibold was crazy and sunk the Titanic.

He's a lot more agile and has far better ball skills, offloading and **love breaking potential** than Twal. He's a much better overall option at lock. Twal is one dimensional. He's a solid workhorse who won't let you down but we can do better with an 80 minute player.

? ooh yeah

ohhhhh ....mmmmmm. Let's put it down to autocorrect.

I hate all the keyboards on my phone. They all think they're smarter than I am. They're not!

Haha.

Thats as good as saying thats what Jason Taylor thought lol.

You’ve lost me bro. Joffa played lock throughout the worst period in Broncos history last year and ultimately the coach was sacked. Unsure where the skinny punching bag JT comes into it but I hope Joffa finds some of his earlier career form at WT. personally think it’ll be at prop but who knows.

Not sure about that..Carrigan was there lock in most Games ..Ofahengaue when starting was at Prop bar 2 games in the back row..the rest where off the bench replacing Props..think he started 1 game at lock when Carrigan was out..

Not much difference between how he'd play at 10 or 13 for us I reckon

Yeah he started 1 came at lock, 3 in the second row, 4 at prop and 7 off the bench. All his games starting at prop were in the last 5 rounds where his stats improved dramatically.

Thank you, by correcting me you have only enhanced my point. I think he’s a prop haha

Correcting you? I agree I think he is a prop, we may play him at 13 this year but that is because we don't have a 13.

I thought he played more lock than that under Seibold but knew he’d been moved all around in the forwards. My original point (now a couple of pages back) was that his best position is up front.

What’s the difference ? Madge has stated before that size isn’t A variable when deciding things like lock.they base it on agility, ball skills , engine , work rate etc. for instance Taumalolo is absolutely huge , and he’s the perfect lock .
I know 1 thing . Twal is not a lock . Only because his link play is diabolical. So if Joffa can get through the same work as a front rower , whilst providing that link play when necessary , at more. higher of volume than anyone else , then joffa is the man for the job. I wouldn’t even care if it was stefano or Musgrove , or Simpkins or Mbye (won’t happen , just making a point )Who ever can hit the metrics required to do that job to high standard gets the 13 jersey.
You have this image in your head , about stuff , when it’s not a really applicable. If they look like victor radley or Taumalolo , it’s irrelevant . I know which one is prefer.

What’s the difference between a lock and a front rower? How long have you got? Depends on your game plan and the type of guys you have in your team. I’m interested which one would you prefer? I’d happily take either at WT.

Exactly. Passing is handy to have but your lock doesn’t need to be creative if you don’t plan your attack around him. You use the skills your guys have to formulate a game plan.

It appears many think we need a mobile ball playing lock.Has anyone have an opinion on how Blore,CheeKam,or even Garner would go in this role?Taking into account these guys appeared to have built up,and we have better training and coaching staff this year

I doubt any of them would be a success in such an important position.Blore is an edge as is Garner MCK is a reggie

I doubt Blore is a lateral defensive player given his bung knee. So no lock there. But running an angle line on the edge he will be deadly.

That’s a worry if he’s defending three in on an edge, hopefully he’s 100% recovered.

In my opinion either him or Jake Turbo are the missing piece that would make us top 8 maybe top 4. Leadership, defence, mental toughness, will to win. All boxes ticked. ✅

Twal needs to be on prop rotation. We need a mobile lock. Last year when Liddle was dummy half and Harry was lock is when we looked the most dangerous.

Lots of talk about our lock needing to have offensive attributes. Yes but I hope we’re more focussed on fixing up our leaky middle (and edge) defense which was conceding over 30 points a game for the second half of last season. Would love to see us holding teams to 16-18 points as I reckon we have 4 tries in us most weeks.

I see this repeated a lot here and I think it is deeply flawed. Each time this happened last year we DID look great (particularly in attack) but each time it happened it was late in the game and when we were chasing points to chase the game.

If we had Harry (or similar) at lock for the whole game, we get pumped up the middle and we lose by a thousand.

It was my observation. It was pretty clear to me that there was a huge difference when that was the combination.

We were really ordinary late last year, hope we’re not using that as any sort of template for this year. Gotta fix up effort areas and go back to basics, run hard tackle smart.

In how Madge has his middles hence being called middles rather than prop and lock . They’re all one in the same , except the lock needs to be fitter , and more ball skills . Which Twal fits the Bill by the way , except he hasn’t developed the ball skills, so it was a huge detriment to the team . If packer was way fitter he would be a great lock , as he has a decent offload and can ball play . But he’s a slug so there goes that. Todd Payten would have been a marvel in today’s game with his ball playing and link play . Hi
The storm just won with Asofa Solomona wearing the 13. Sharing with Finucane who’s not small either . .
This fascination with body types is wrong . The staff are onto it, it’s attributes that are way more important . It doesn’t matter a pinch of poo , if you look like dean widders just before pre season , if he can do the job . Or if he’s some freak of nature and has a body like a raver at 4am in the morning after a few weeks of shards . If he has the skill set that the team requires and can perform that’s way more important .
For the record I’d take JT 100 times out of 100.

By the way , stop editing your posts after people reply so you don’t look bad . It’s annoying .

Think Bellamy showed the formula....play another prop in the first 20mins of each half(in Storms case 125kg Asa Solomona),the replace him with a mobile ball player like...Brandon Smith
Suits the new rules perfectly
Madge picked it up very late moving Harry to 13
Sadly we dont have the calibre of either of these 2,but who knows

Think Bellamy showed the formula....play another prop in the first 20mins of each half(in Storms case 125kg Asa Solomona),the replace him with a mobile ball player like...Brandon Smith
Suits the new rules perfectly

Melbourne normally have control of the tempo of a game though, I could see us having three props with the gas light flashing empty after 10 mins. You gotta watch what’s happening and make adjustments and you gotta have players capable of changing momentum. I always feel like we are just hanging on against the better sides.

Dale Finucane ?

Throw the kitchen sink at him.

Haha I only just noticed he is off contract this year as well. Yep id take him in a heartbeat.

Solve our lock problem instantly.

In my opinion either him or Jake Turbo are the missing piece that would make us top 8 maybe top 4. Leadership, defence, mental toughness, will to win. All boxes ticked. ✅

Jake Trjobevic is a step up on Finucane ...he can ball play at or before the line ...that is a massive advantage
