Well Hastings is due back at Wigan for training on the 22nd so we'll know what's happening soon.

Im going to take a punt and say Hastings will be with us this season..there is a new variant of the virus over there and things may change quite a bit even though they have rolled out vaccinations...just a hunch,but dont really know,it would be much easier to stay,train and play here now that he is back in Oz and has been through quarantine and is with family...I know nothing about his contract so Iam just giving an opinion...

1, Laurie 6, Madden 14, MBye

MBye will be in our round one side at Either 1,6 or 14 but how the rest lines up is due to desperation.
My opinion is we need experienced cover for 5/8.

Well that’s your opinion but I have a different view. Youth needs to prove itself to demand a spot in the 17. If you loose young players from not playing first grade your still doing something wrong as a club. How many games did Harley ray shields or Matt Timoko get for the raiders last year? What about Sta afoa or Tex Hoy for the knights? I guess they should be worried too that they’ll be signing with other clubs.

Penrith just lost Laurie and Burton because they were not using them, so yes maybe they should be worried

But at the same token they have retained Lui and stains. I have no doubt we target both Stains and Laurie and ended up with 1 of the two. Madden might be the only one we can be concerned about moving on but at this stage all we will loose is halves cover.
In my ideal strongest 17 it features both Liddle and Simpkin and Laurie but not Madden or MBye. I’m sure we’ll see a team like that towards the end of the year. We just need to give them time and be patient.

I think he will be the half. If you read the comments from his team mates,he's exactly what we need, a quick,tough ,scheeming half with a great kicking game.

Haha, oh no. I’m still waiting on the delivery! But I do like Douehi, not that way but i think he is class and will pair really well with Brooks. Madden comes in if Brooks is out for mine. Not Douehi.

More then welcome to your opinion, but i think Brooks and Madden will give the Tigers the spark we have been missing.
Both have great short kicking games, and with JTJ and laurie following through will create havoc for the defence.

I am a lot more worried about Brooks heading into this season than I am Doueihi.

Possibly. But Brooks start of 2020 and the Brooks at the end of 2020 were completely different. Not only was he playing with more energy. Maguire actually shaped a lot more of the whole field play off the back of him. That little stint at 5/8 actually got him more involved not less. I don’t see him going backwards, only forwards from there. Give him a hard running Joey and Lucy either side or Garner and Roberts. (depending on which way the switch goes) and immediately he has options.

You do realise we had Mybe as our main centre option and played Chris Lawrence on one leg as our other. The plodder turn over of our roster has been nothing short of amazing. (Not including Chris Lawrence in that statement but he himself would admit he was borrowed time).

I still reckon Doueihi’s got more in his kit bag than Brooks will ever have .
Problem is if Brooks stinks it up again we’ve got him until 2023 ?

I agree I think Douehi will be great for us. Well contracts aren’t set in stone in some cases.
I hope they both have a great season. We really need them to gell well.

When Brooks is in full control of the team he plays excellent, lays try assists and forced dropouts at will. With Benji beside him it felt like little by little he gave up the reins and became second choice for playmaking. Madge has made it known a few times that Brooksy is running the show now and i'm more than willing to eat my words later on, but we're gonna see the return of 2018/2019 Brooks who was being thrown around for an origin jersey.

For that to work our forwards better march us up the field
And I am confident they can
If you look at the forwards we have, I think we have a great mix of youth and experience
Youth in Mikaele Stefano Simpkins Blore and Garner
These are some of if not the best youth forwards of any team in the Nrl

Experience in Tamou Twal Ofahengaue Musgrove LJ and Packer
There are some work horses in that lot

If madge gets it right with the rotations, we have the players who if they play well can be in the top 4 of 5 packs in the comp
Maybe even higher

We have two great young Hookers in Simpkin and Liddle that will push each other all year for that starting spot

In fact alot of positions are up for grabs this year

Our players are looking super fit which is a great start

All that and a number of players playing for contracts this year puts us I believe in a great position this year
I am confident we will do very well and surprise a number of teams this year

He’s had about as many good games as Brooks has had in only 20 games for us.

Kit bag contains ..
Goal kicking ..
Short kicking game ..
Long passing game ..
Very effective spiral bomb ..
Great footwork ..
And he seems to have a brain ..

The spiral bombs alone put him top of the halves queue

I'm amazed we didn't use them more often .....

I know I'm gonna cop all sort of crap talking about myself ....but I can still hit a conventional bomb from the inside of my right boot that will swing at least 10 metres from their original line ...far more if the wind is swirling around .....fullbacks sitting under Brooks bombs could close both eyes ...they don't move a muscle ....

Both have great short kicking games, and with JTJ and laurie following through will create havoc for the defence.

Maguire actually shaped a lot more of the whole field play off the back of him. That little stint at 5/8 actually got him more involved not less. I don’t see him going backwards, only forwards from there. Give him a hard running Joey and Lucy either side or Garner and Roberts. (depending on which way the switch goes) and immediately he has options.

You do realise we had Mybe as our main centre option and played Chris Lawrence on one leg as our other. The plodder turn over of our roster has been nothing short of amazing. (Not including Chris Lawrence in that statement but he himself would admit he was borrowed time).

I still reckon Doueihi’s got more in his kit bag than Brooks will ever have .
Problem is if Brooks stinks it up again we’ve got him until 2023 ?

Im going to take a punt and say Hastings will be with us this season..there is a new variant of the virus over there and things may change quite a bit even though they have rolled out vaccinations...just a hunch,but dont really know,it would be much easier to stay,train and play here now that he is back in Oz and has been through quarantine and is with family...I know nothing about his contract so Iam just giving an opinion...

Well that’s your opinion but I have a different view. Youth needs to prove itself to demand a spot in the 17. If you loose young players from not playing first grade your still doing something wrong as a club. How many games did Harley ray shields or Matt Timoko get for the raiders last year? What about Sta afoa or Tex Hoy for the knights? I guess they should be worried too that they’ll be signing with other clubs.

Penrith just lost Laurie and Burton because they were not using them, so yes maybe they should be worried

In my ideal strongest 17 it features both Liddle and Simpkin and Laurie but not Madden or MBye. I’m sure we’ll see a team like that towards the end of the year. We just need to give them time and be patient.

I really hope he cuts that out of his game this season. I've seen brickies on the job site passing bricks softer than Brooks passes the ball 10m out from the tryline.

I know I'm gonna cop all sort of crap talking about myself ....but I can still hit a conventional bomb from the inside of my right boot that will swing at least 10 metres from their original line ...far more if the wind is swirling around .....fullbacks sitting under Brooks bombs could close both eyes ...they don't move a muscle ....

Ok Happy. If they are so easy to take. Why did none of our backline contest any of them?
The were always put in the spot for their to be a challenge for the ball yet... nothing.

Also hate Brooks hospital pass. Low percentage play. Should use soft hands. Brooks was below average in 2020 and I’m not make excuses for him. The years before 2020,If you go back through all the 3,2,1’s most weeks he got points.
Doueihi does look good physically this year, hope he kills it at 5/8. He has now played 50 NrL games (only scoring 8 try’s) honestly i can only remember a handful of good games where you’d have him in the 3,2,1’s. The game at the end of the season against Manly Doueihi and Brooks combined well in the halves which gives some hope for 2021.
Hoping Doueihi reinvents himself in the mould of Jack Wighton.
The rookie, Laurie looks like more of a traditional 5/8 to me.

It helps if you have 2 heads happy
You see the eyes in your right head look right
The eyes in you left head look left
So when you kick the ball and it shifts 6 inches to the left in the breeze it just appears to move 10 meters
But in reality it's just your eyes shifting focus from right to left

On a serious note
You see some AFL players kick with a deliberate swing back towards the goal
I can see the same technique being used in a spiral bomb to get that late swing away from the catcher
It is something our kickers should be working on

I hope you are wrong because that would mean a disaster of a start. Going for 2 inexperienced debuts that early means a real shake up has happened. Especially if Laurie at 1 means madge has picked 3 guys to lead the team with only 1 game experience between them as of now.

That spiral pass he throws left to right is a thing of beauty, hopefully he has been working on doing the same right to left as it is a hole in his game.
