Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Dufty has major attitude issues apparently that's why Griffin and McGregor weren't keen on him

Gus said it is not football related why they are moving him on

So the difference in the cap between having a good coach (who attracts players- the Robinsons, Bennets, Bellamys ) is $400K for some players.

I don't believe this for a second. How many on here are going to give up 400k in income.

Latrell gave up $500k to knock us back

Latrell has moments of brilliance, but he is lazy. His overall participation in a game is poor. He plays in patches as his fitness is poor. How many backs play with a beer belly ?
I have no doubt some of his fellow teamates would be unhappy with his attitude. The mice deserve him!

I agree he isn’t wort the money we offered, but the fact remains he turned us down, plus I think he would have helped attract better players

Alex Johnson would also have helped our recruitment. When he comes off the wing he doesn’t wave his arms in the air, he actually nails the ball carrier.

Matt Dufty would bring a new element to our backlines attack which would be beneficial

Laurie as a 6, Doueihi to Centre and Dufty to fullback would be lethal in years to come

Dufty on a 2 year deal, 2nd in the clubs favour on around 500k would be great imo and would push him to be at his best

Oh but we would have turned him into Kevin naiqama

It's a yes from me
Beggars can't be choosers
Or we can put all our eggs in one basket for Hynes and miss out to one of the many other clubs that will chase him
Then we can sit back and watch Dufty kill it elsewhere
He has speed to burn
Something we lack severely
Going for Dufty doesn't mean we can't still go for Hynes
But we would be lucky to get him

It’s a catch 22 isn’t it , when you’re on the bottom and all the top talent gravitates toward winning clubs? It’s a tough gig to improve the roster without winning. As we all know, there is no silver bullet, no big signing which can turn it around. As Happy eluded to recently we need a few top 100 players before we can think about landing a marquee. And I agree.

Our defence is awful and is costing us games. Getting the worst defensive fullback in the comp is unlikely to assist.

There aren't to many fullbacks who can stop a try consistently
That is usually left to the men up front
If we constantly rely on our fullback to save tries, we are in trouble

I feel the need
The need for speed

Sure, but there are plenty who can be relied upon to catch a ball more often than not; to help organise a defence; to put themselves in good positions to defend against kicks; and to put a decent shot on an attacker so that there is a chance they won't score.
Look at the ground that the likes of Tedesco, Trbojevic, Gutherson and RTS cover in defence and how often they're in position to have an influence on the play and then watch Dufty...he is just not switched on in defence. Someone like Hynes on the other hand does seem to have that mentality of competing on every play, which is why I think he could be very good and worth chucking a pile of cash at.

So true, it’s step by step. You have to recruit firstly to build your foundation, than with a aim of making the eight, than top four than the title. It takes smart recruitment, luck and time. Up until recently our recruitment has not been smart and we have lacked a little luck. Once your up there it’s a lot easier as you just need to top up your squad.

Unfortunately like the current housing market demand heavily outstrips supply and that makes the steps very hard to climb

I'm not sure the club is interested in either of them. we need wingers and centres, Hynes will probably want 'spine dollars'

Are there any spine players out there who we could spend spine money on? If not....

Just saw it reported the Broncos offering Hynes $500k over 3 years - surely we could beat that by a heap!
