Good news on Liddle. Sounds like Melbourne have again reversed Brandon Smith's request to leave, so Liddle was going to be sought after.

Hopefully Mikaele and Seyfarth are next.

The two-year deal will see Liddle remain in Wests Tigers colours until at least the end of the 2023 NRL season.

A Wyong Roos junior, Liddle joined Wests Tigers in 2015 after earning selection in the New South Wales junior Origin and Australian Schoolboys sides. He would quickly make his first grade debut the following year, before permanently moving into the full-time squad for the 2017 season — playing 13 games and winning the club’s Rookie of the Year Award.

The talented rake has overcome several injuries throughout his career — including a serious knee injury in 2019 that sidelined him for part of the 2020 season also — but has since made a strong return and featured prominently for the club this year.

Liddle surpassed 50 NRL games earlier this year in his side’s win over Newcastle, and said he was very pleased to continue his playing career at Wests Tigers.

“I’m really excited to be able to stay on with the club,” Liddle enthused.

“It’s been a bit of an up-and-down ride for myself personally, but I’ve loved being at Wests Tigers and really feel a part of what we’re building here.

“I’m determined now to make sure I continue to deliver my best footy each and every week and help bring success to the club, its Members and its fans.”

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe congratulated Liddle on his new deal with the club.

“On behalf of all at Wests Tigers, I’d like to say how pleased we are to see Jacob extend his playing future with the club,” Pascoe said.

“Not only is Jacob a clearly talented footballer but he is an exceptional young man away from the field who genuinely lives out the values of what we want to be known for as a club.

“Jacob has a great attitude towards his football and the club and is determined to deliver success to Wests Tigers. He is a fantastic ambassador for what we are building here and we’re all looking forward to watching him develop further in a Wests Tigers jersey.”

Just a thought, maybe Adam Hartigan could provide the quotes for these articles. If Pascoe is more into the bean counting should he really be the one beating his chest when we have a win in recruitment and retention? Maybe then people wouldn’t be so hard on him for the on field outcomes.

OFF-TAP COACH'S STUNNING SHED BLOW-UP

An angry coach who is already off with much of his squad lost a few more friends among the players after a stunning recent incident in the sheds.

At a mid-week rehab session, a player was getting a massage and as he was doing so, was quietly watching a horse race on his phone.

The coach was walking past at the time and flew into a rage, grabbing the phone off the shocked player and flinging it across the room.

Coaches are under massive pressure - I get that - and this bloke hasn't been winning… but that sort of over-the-top behaviour won't do anything to make an unhappy camp whole again.

I wonder who it was?

With the phone throwing incident, I was sticking Russell at Souffs, although of course he's not a coach.

Who cares if a player was watching a horse race while being massaged? What should he be doing? Reading a play book?

My guess is that players mobile phones are banned from all training / recovery areas.

DWZ, when in form, runs like a lunatic into defences. He is big and fast - plays perfect “Madgeball”. My guess he will play on the other wing to Noffa and do those dirty hitups to complement Noffa. He is however very suspect in the air and makes Clanger type errors (play the ball the wrong way).

He was bought to the dogs as a marquee signing but that was a mistake as he us a pure ball runner and doesn’t really ball play. He has fallen off radars being in such a team like the Dogs but with a simple game plan and role to play, it is well within DWZ’s capabilities to turn his form slump around.

Gorden Tallis has a great saying: "A fullback who can't pass is called a winger."

Well fair enough if that was the rule then it was taken away. If it was broken though, I'd expect the coach would find himself having to buy a new one for the player. I'm picturing it like a teacher with a naughty student, you can confiscate but not break the property.

They, especially Teddy, have a few years on him. I also don't think we'll see Latrell back in the 1 for NSW, as he does well enough in the centres. Same thing may happen to Turbo, i.e. he also plays in the centres, if Laurie progresses

St George Illawarra have announced the release of winger Shaun Sauni-Esau, effective immediately. Sauni-Esau was due to be promoted to the club’s Top 30 squad for next season, but has now been released.

I wonder where he will end up (I have never heard of him), some club wanting wingers??

Channelling his inner De Bellin, Ricky told the crowd that Gom was short for Go On Mate. This was about the time he used to hang out in night clubs with his Rugby mates and spit on other punters. If you turned around or said anything you got a prop forward in your face.

Gom Jabbar was a torture (sort of) device in the book (and movie) Dune. Maybe the horse came with the name.
