The more this sort of thing goes on, the worse it looks for the people in charge.

From my end I think it great if Sheens has personally contacted managers both individually and collectively.

100%.

From what you read WT have a relationships issue

There is an article in DT about Sheens has emailed all player managers asking for a list of there best off contract players.. Sounds promising and good to see he is not sitting back and waiting to he arrives. He cannot do any worse then we have been doing.

Brilliant, just brilliant.

I see no reason why we are struggling with recruitment that it's taken to put Sheens on to send an email.

I would've hoped, if he asked the recruitment team, they would of had this info?
If the article is true, it sounds like a bit of grandstanding?

It’s more about getting his name out there and letting people know he is back in town…well nearly back in town

Not sure where to post it as the lower grades forum is understandably dead atm however Israel Ogden confirmed on Instagram he has no deal for 2022. Would be changing that fairly quickly

What did he say?
Is it a Q and A?

His page is private.

I find it funny that you need to email the player managers to find out which players are off contract when NRL.com already have a list.

The only thing that isn’t mentioned is some players might have player options for next year which aren’t public and or some players may be ‘off’ with their club so they could be available with a bit of negotiation.

It would also open up dialogue and reinforce our willingness to bring new players into our system.
However, I would have thoght that this type of communication is already going on.
Maybe it was Sheens putting it out there: I'm back, Wests Tigers are back and different this time.

Maybe sheens has a ‘different’ relationship with the player managers.
He would of still remained in contact through his time at England to scout potential expats so prehaps that’s what it’s about, touching base ans getting a another perspective on where we can move forwards.

What’s also not mentioned is there a players off contract and there are players off contract that would be interested in joining the tigers.

And the list of contracted players who aren’t happy in their current club…

Agree

The email, seen in another thread mentions their full contract list. Regardless of contracted years. That is different then just asking for off contract and interested players.

Could he be rebuilding the relationship with the player managers, to start to piece a long term strategy regarding recruitment.

Maybe Hartigan has done this already, maybe Sheens also wants it printed out in front of him when they are having recruitment discussions.

I wonder if they both agree on what type of player we need to recruit into this team?

That would be a pretty big list of the younger players who (1) want a chance in the higher grades, (2) are stopped from progress because of the incumbents and (3) simply think they are not appreciated.

It would be a full list of players - not just NRL players.

Some of those can be fitted in the pathways.

Not all smoke and mirrors.

I'm amazed that the Sheens email has got so much attention. Good on him for doing it but I would regard is as pretty much good practice 101.

If that’s the case, let’s front load some contracts to free up future space - Mbye and Brooks come to mind.

NRL was approached for clarity on August 1 which may be extended due to COVID…

Standard practice. Player managers usually send the information including players under contract that want out and players told by clubs they are deee to leave. It’s how 99% of media articles are written. Every club gets the information sounds like this email was telling player managers Sheens is running the show.

Agree. It's not unusual in my industry when a new senior person comes in to a place to do a round of "meet n greets" with important players in the industry. Even if you know the person, it's about creating or reestablishing that connection

Are we sure that he asked for the right positions of players for the required positions or are we going to end up recruiting Tyrone Peachy for Prop?
