Clint Gutherson $750,000, Dylan Brown $500,000, Ryan Matterson $550,000, Reed Mahoney $550,000, Isaiah Papali’i $600,000, Junior Paulo $700,000 and Marata Niukore $550,000 are all off contract and are worth a total of $4,200,000 based on their projected base rates for their next contract.

Those are projected salaries. Papali'i is only on 175k next season. We should definitely be offering him closer to 450k and try get him immediately

We're much better off targeting players that can have an immediate impact, or at least have the possibility that they'll turn into the player we need during the contract. We can't keep gambling our precious squad spots trying to squeeze blood from a stone.

If we had a dozen roster spots open then maybe for 150k on a one year deal. With where our squad is no way...

Im not here nor there, but I think he is better than Brooks, and a legitimate competition for Brooks wouldnt be a bad thing. In saying that, I would offer him $230k max. Id be happy to gamble on him for that

There seems to be a common theme on here of people being about four or five years behind on actual player performance. Just look at how stubbornly some people stuck to the idea that Roberts might come good, having actually been getting progressively worse for half a decade.

Some people - not saying it's the same ones - also just hate Brooks so much they'd probably be happy to hear we were trying to re-sign Anasta if it meant Brooks didn't get picked.

My post wasn't literal I was taking the piss. I agree, he was never quoted saying he was the next Joey. Another media beat up. Same thing happened to Tim Smith, Ash Taylor and now Dearden. Media puts these labels and unnecessary pressure on these kids who then struggle to live up to the hype. Anything less than greatness is then considered a failure.
