It’s a bit of a vague thing to say as technically the last time we had a Hodgson was 2008, and we in fact did not win the comp.

No we didn't

Brett Hodgson mate in 2005
I think he was also the top point scorer that year
Can somebody confirm

Yeah he was but the last time someone with the name Hodgson was in the teams was 2008.

Hodgo was the top point scorer in 2005.

A Wests Tigers legend, and rather scrawny to boot. One of my all time favourite players.

The fact is, the club needs some leadership among the playing group and Hodgson provides that, whilst strengthening a position we are weak in. Now it's just a question of how much the Raiders chip in for next season.

Whilst it has been frustrating to watch the media spin repeated articles on the WT ability to recruit, you can't blame the club for being selective and not wasting cash - we hold the cards with respect to Hodgson as the Raiders cap is very strained. I wouldn't be surprised if we get him at a similar price to Peachy for 2 years, which IMO is a good deal.

The other consideration is Hodgson transitions from hooker to lock and plays 80 mins which allows us to add either Jacob or Jake to fill a bench spot effectively

I loved Hodgo, close to my favourite player as well. I liked him so much I went to his testimonial dinner. I have so much respect for the guy as a footballer.

Hodgson to start, Simpkin at 14 - keeps Josh from wearing away too quickly and develops Simpkin. Send Liddle to the Dogs in a player swap deal for Cotric and we're laughing

You start Peachey at lock and then bring a Simpkin on and transition Hodgson to the 13, allowing Peachey not to burn out and bring some spark in his second spell

Hodgson signing is a gamble if it comes off, but all Tigers signings are always a gamble, because we are never in the market for the real deals. Although it’s a gamble we can’t refuse, because he potentially offers a lot.

I get the feeling even if he broke down lame after 6 months, he would have plenty to offer still just being around the place. Anyway with the Peach and possibly Hodgson we have the experience thing covered, now for a couple of real athletes who can play footy

Daine Laurie looks very small on the field sometimes nowadays and Hodgo was a fair bit smaller than him.

So tough.

I found it really tough watching Hodgo in that last year he played when he kept getting knocked around, for me it was almost a relief when he signed in the ESL.

I remember a play by Laurie I think it was against the broncos where they put a kick in our ingoal, and laurie just scooted low into a pile of defenders to get out...kid has some heart

Spot on buddy
We haven’t made the finals for so long even our beloved fans have forgotten that we won a comp ?

The last time we had a Hodgson in our team was 2008, Brett Hodgson and we came 10th.......how quickly we forget.

EDIT: Makes a note to check the entire thread before replying

We definitely need some experience around the spine, Hodgson’s injury history is a huge concern though.

He’s never been a player to rely on speed so no reason other than injuries why he couldn’t play on into his mid 30s like Cam Smith and Farah.

I think that's why it would be interesting seeing Ryan Pap on another team. At Melbourne he's always running into holes but I don't think he'd stand out all that much at the tigers because our team never gets the backline much space and time.

Obviously Benji and Prince and Hodgo were magic in 2005 but one of the biggest factors in that year was the speed of our play the balls allowing wide running Benji and Hodgo to destroy teams. When that all went sour Hodgo just wasn't big enough to use his smarts the way he did in 2005.

The law changes post 05 didn't help. That team would be killing it with the new rules.
