Sykes off to panthers

Where did you hear that? Insta?

Seems an odd one. A local boy and junior from a very young age, highly thought of at the club. Went from SG Ball to NSW cup this season.

Would be a real tragedy to lose him. Gun back rower, a position we lack. A Ryan Hoffman type. Cleary would have known about him as he was one of the few standout juniors we had back then.

Disappointing again.

Why do the Bulldogs have no forwards?

They put a number on us in our last encounter. Not bad for a team with no forwards

I thought is was more to do with the fact, we had nearly half of our FG starters out?

Laurie, Douehie, Mbye, Seyfarth, Tamou, Simpkins, Garner, have I missed someone?

Then of course we were down to 11 players at one stage?

Even with 6 Fg out, most club would have pushed the bottom team. It typified our season to a tee and to be honest the only reason we did not get the spoon we came up against a few sides at the right time. Back to the Dogs, their forwards are okay, it’s their spine that is holding them back, but should be a lot better this year

But we were not a great team to begin with? Didn't we do similar to Penrith in the first round, when they had players out? Of course it makes a difference?
Not saying we weren't terrible though.

Yeah short and sweet post he's off to panthers.

I don’t see the point of getting upset over losing Flegg players. A lot of them amount to nothing. It isn’t worth getting annoyed till they start making a dent in fg.

I myself am frustrated as we need to be bringing these young guys through and building the club around our junior teams.
Look at the group of players the Panthers have bought through the grades for example.

I wonder how many players they cut to get the group they have?

I dare say Korisau would be asking for pretty big dollars. Not sure if Penrith really have a replacement for him either, Kenny isn't that great

Would like him here, wanted us to sign him before he left Manly, but Hodgson seems a whole lot more likely.

We'd be his 4th club...

Seems like a mercenary that's willing to go where ever the money is.

They do cut alot but keep the good ones like Sykes. He must be doing something right to make it into that system with the talent they have coming through.

Suspect he got sick of waiting for his contract. Not the only one it seems. What a shambles.

Also 1 more comment about the brooks thing . How many halves in the comp, are the actual game winners for thier teams . Like “the” guy . It’s not Moses , not DCE , cleary , you would say yes , not Hughes . The last generation skewed our view on what a half is supposed to be . Thurston , johns , Cronk etc . I think it all needs to be kept in perspective .

I have to disagree on Cleary. He is not a game winner. A good kick of the ball , but a choker. Unless his team is dominating , he has nothing. He rides on the backs of talented teams to success.(eg Penrith & the Blues. ) When those teams under the pump he goes missing. His nick name is Blister... he only turns up when the hard work is done.
On Brooks, I think Hastings at half to control the game, Brooks to 5/8 & let him run & play football. We have a time before Douhie is back so see how the combo goes & if its not working Brooks will have used up all his chances & will have to go.

Agree

Hastings 7
Brooks 6

When AD where does brooks go?

If we get Api/Hodgson then Liddle seems the odd man out. If that's the case then Brooks to 14, filling in at hooker after 25 mins of Simpkin starting the game. Brooks mightn't like being a 9 but if we are paying him good $$$ then he just has to suck it up for the time being.

Can't start Api/Hodgson and simpkin?

Yeah issue with brooks going to 14 is it blocks d simpkin

It is a blight on our club that we are losing our own kids. Why we continue to look outside our own 4 walls is beyond me. The talent is under our noses.

I may have missed it so sorry if someone has already explained, but where did this api talk come from? I’ve looked but can’t find anything about it. Sorry again if already explained

It was mentioned in the Canberra Times in an article regarding us talking to the Raiders about signing Hodgson

Josh Hodgson contract discussions in holding pattern

Josh Hodgson’s future’s in a holding pattern following the sacking of Wests Tigers football manager Adam Hartigan. There could be another spanner in the Hodgson-Tigers works, with Penrith hooker Api Koroisau also linked with a move to the Tigers due to salary pressure at the Panthers.

“Tim Sheens just wants to get his head across the whole thing so it’s probably on a little bit of a time delay at the moment until he gets his head around their salary cap situation,” Peter Mulholland said.

When Sheens gets here he will focus on the kids he wants to keep , you guys need to have some faith as we are not going to be able to keep them all

Genuine question- why can't we keep all our good juniors until top 30?

Is there a strict salary cap in juniors- RM, JF etc?

But “suspect” is not fact, we don’t know why he is leaving, if in deed that is fact? Could be any number of reasons, though Hartigan does seem to have not kept up with the juniors, as well as he should have if what we are hearing is true?

To be honest you would be mad to turn down a contract from Penrith
