It's a shame because Lucy was one of my favourites but 700k is pretty ridiculous. All I can hope for is the bloke honours the rest of his contract and puts in for 2022

He's requesting an early release

You have to ask yourself why is it that Tigers players always want an early release from their contract but when we sign Papalii he honours his. It's a part of the clubs culture that needs to be changed

Well going into 2022 luch is probably on 300 odd ? If you’ve got someone willing to pay 400k extra as early as next season, you’d likely jump

Same as Matterson, Aloiai...

All on the paper chase. ?

Isaiah Papalii is on less than 200k this upcoming season. We would be paying him 600k this season if he were to jump ship early. He respects the contract he signed though

Papalii's only earning $150k for the upcoming season and yet he isn't chucking a fit and asking for a release. Our club gets no respect from the players and something needs to change. The Storm, Roosters, Parra rarely have players chucking fits and asking for releases because they're professional. Us on the other hand, have a player or two asking for an early release every off season.

The Club will have a player(s) in mind they want as a trade from the Cowboys to grant an early release. If we can get one of these players in return it is smart business to let him go to the Cowboys.

Papalii a rare exception. Plus he’s at a competing club. What more is Luch going to achieve with us earning half of what he’s about to earn ? Not really all that confusing imo

It’s not that bad , he was good in attack about 75 % I would think but he did stink in defence , fan favourite maybe but they don’t win you comps , we got plenty guys coming through , Blore and co and the extra cash we can spend on a decent player simple , yes tigers may be upset but I don’t think by much , he will be released by Friday I think

Yep, sure thing haven't heard that one before. Did the club also have a player in mind before releasing Matterson, Moses, Aloiai and even Ivan Cleary from their contracts early? We'll give in like we usually do

As I posted earlier, Sheens and Payten have a good relationship. Both are smart operators and will come to an agreement acceptable to both parties.

That's exactly my point. You don't see players at Melbourne, Roosters, Parra, etc sooking and requesting early releases from their club because they play for a proper well run football club. Brandon Smith is honouring his contract, so too did Josh Addo-Carr, Joey Manu before testing the market, etc. It seems we're stuck in a perpetual cycle of signing a player of potential, developing them into solid first graders and then having them sook and break their contracts early to move on. We'll never succeed like this and something has to change, whether it be refusing Lucy a release and having him play NSW cup the rest of the year unless we are compensated appropriately. Unlike what happened with Matterson, Moses, Aloiai, etc where we basically just gave in and embarrassed ourselves.

I just saw on foxtel the 2019 match between Parra and Wests tigers at the then new Bankwest stadium. Tigers were well and truly smashed in this match. Nothing has really changed with WEsts tigers since that match. I recommend that sheens, Maguire and Co look at this match to see how much we have transgrest again from this match. WEsts tigers need to really spen and spend wisely their cash on good players as soon as possible. What are they waiting for? The club has the money.

I’d tried hard to forget that game. Moses carving up 🤢

NRL transfer news: Luciano Leilua quits Wests Tigers to join North Queensland Cowboys
Wests Tigers have been rocked as one of the club’s best players has asked for an immediate release to join an NRL rival.

The Wests Tigers have suffered another massive recruitment blow, losing outstanding second-rower Luciano Leilua to the North Queensland Cowboys.

The giant edge forward has also asked for a release from the final year of his contract in 2022 to join the Cowboys in the new year.

Shattered Wests Tigers officials are planning to issue a press release on Thursday morning.

The Cowboys have used the money they saved after missing out on barnstorming Penrith Panthers forward Viliame Kikau to sign Leilua on a three-year deal.

The Daily Telegraph understands he will be paid $700,000 a season.

Luciano and Joey Leilua.
Luciano and Joey Leilua.
It is known Leilua and his manager, Mario Tartak, have been disappointed with negotiations at the Wests Tigers for the last couple of months.

Little progress has been made since they began talks in August.

The signing of Isaah Papili'i from the Parramatta Eels last week on more than $600,000-a-year was the catalyst for Leilua to look elsewhere.

He felt undervalued.

The Leilua camp insists coach Michael Maguire is not the problem despite the coach’s well publicised falling out with his brother Joey.

It has more to do with the fact Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe has not once spoken to Tartak about the negotiations since August.

Please consider who is writing the article. If it is true, it will be a first for that DS reporter. Any way, when The tigers play the Cowgirls they will know where to run to go through the line! 🙂
