Hooker is so much more than their stats. The reasons many teams can send their wingers in un touched is because of good dummy half play. We don't do that. Our attack is slow, clunky and often goes to the right over and over again. This is because Liddle is simply not good. His service is so slow and he isn't good at engaging the markers and giving our forwards more room for hit ups like Farah could. He also gets gassed early in the game and regularly misses over 5 tackles. He's a bottom 3 starting hooker. We need higher standards.

You are correct - much more than stats. Then you start to make up reasons to fit your agenda for not liking him.

Personally, I don't care if you like him or not, you are entitled to your opinion like everyone else, but please watch him play first.

I don’t know what some on here want , Liddle is not origin class but he is a good 1st grade player , doesn’t miss many tackles has great pace , just needs to fine tune his play around the ruck maybe Farah can work on that

He was the 2nd worst hooker in the NRL this year for Try Causes and Line Break causes in defence. He's a massive liability in our middle defence. Probably coincides with his lack of stamina

There's 16/17 Teams, 4-5 Top Class hookers in the game (Maybe less) Unless we're getting one of those (Which we're not),
Then I'd prefer much prefer Liddle Stays.... LONG TERM!!

Liddle is not at the top level, But our Team as a whole are not at that level (Yet)
Both may never be... People here need to accept that.

I've seen a gazillion sack him, sack that guy - This guy is crap posts,
But NOT ONE is followed up with a realistic, suggested player to fill the position
I'd be throwing 1.2 at B Smith, I seriously don't think that would land him....
We're just not that appealing right now... I doubt we ever were, Or even will be....

The only way we'll ever land those type of players - Is buy building a tough, mid level side that shows to be on the up. Get the numbers right and then land that big fish...
We're not there yet, And I for one... AM NOT letting the Hooker or Half go anywhere until we firmly have our hands on a much better option - Which we don't.

I'm not suggesting that we just let him go for the sake of it. I'm just correcting the lies that were written saying that he's a strong defender. He just isn't and the statistics prove it. I want any player with a WT jersey on to play well, succeed and win games. But Jacob needs to improve alot for that to occur

Which statistics are you referring to? - His 92(ish) % Tackle efficiency?
If we had a goal kicker that kicked that well, He'd be the pride of the team....

87% actually. And his 10 try and 13 linebreak causes in 20 matches. He missed 65 tackles last season, second most for the club (funnily enough the apparently great defensive half Brooks missed the most tackles in 70 for the season). He needs to be better

Liddle is the new brooks. Every excuse in the book why his passing was horrendous. Why in key moments he wasn’t at dummy half, why he dropped of tackles, why he was gassed after 30 minutes. It’s everybody’s fault but his.

First sentence is dead on. He’s the new scapegoat.

He was terrible that’s what he was. Would happily drive him and brooks to redcliffe. Let’s give these guys another 5 years and see if they will improve. Wonder if brooks csn get to 500 games with no finals at the tigers. Can you imagine the banner and the party at Leichhardt oval for him.

10 line breaks for Liddle. One of our only shining lights in attack. If he was terrible, God knows how you would describe some others

Put his Stats beside Brandon Smith - A guy who's Spent his whole career in the top 4, Top Tier National representative and about to land a million dollars somewhere...

I don't see the Price tag difference in the work they do, Or the teams they play in.
There's only one Brandon Smith, And a couple others you'd bust the bank for. We're not in the market for them...

There you go. Bashing the 19 year old kid. I don't think I bash Liddle. I want him to succeed. It just grind my gears that you give him a free pass on his deficiencies and make excuses and blame everyone else. It's the same on here with a handful about Brooks. Then if you dare raise a valid point then you blokes accuse people of bashing or hating the bloke

Besides the two young ones, I wouldn’t waste my time. And as I have said previously, if those 2 are that good, I’d doubt the Cows would be willing to give either up for the sake of getting Luc a year early. When Newcastle signed Ponga a year early, they tried to get him straight away, but the Cows wanted the Safiti bros. And Newcastle said no. Because they’d rather wait a year than lose two young guns.

Back on the Twal debate a few pages earlier, I fully agree that he is not a lock.

I would like to see Peachey at 13 and Seyfarth as the bench lock that can shift to prop when required. I think both have better ball playing than Twal and would make for a better all round rotation in my opinion.

Long term (maybe when Peachey deal is done?) I would be interested to see if Rua Ngatikaura could play at lock while sharing the 9 with Simpkin. Word on the street is Rua is chunky and BSmith-like so could work, albeit I’ve never seen him play.

Just spitballing, but would prefer work something out internally than help doggies by subsidising Thompson

I’d swap them. Seyfarth starting with Peach coming on after 15-20 and Seyfarth moving to prop. He can play decent minutes with quality so will help the rotation. A fresh Peach in the middle of the half could be dangerous

Seyfarth isn’t a lock his lateral defense was ordinary to say the least. He is a direct hitter and runner and should be in the middle. Locks should be 65-80min players. Seyfarth isn’t close to that. I think he can add value but we need to stop putting players in roles just because.

Blore would add more value as a lock than Seyfarth, he can hit side on, has good lateral movement and can 2nd phase play - also faster.

Blore has been the forgotten key player in our rotation with the Paps & Lucy talk. I think be is going to hit another level next year if he can have an injury free pre season with Laurie / Brooks running off him.

If Blore can play lock I’d love to see this come 2023

You might not be bashing Liddle, but plenty of others are. Seems it’s ok to say whatever you want about guys like Liddle, Brooks and Noffa. Open slather. But the minute someone else gets the spotlight put on them, it’s unfair bashing.

Blore is a bit of an issue isn't he. He looks promising but he has to develop an attacking game. He mistimes his runs on the edge all the time. He has to fix that to become a good backrower. The thing is his defense is good.

That could be a quality backrow.

The problem is that there is very little signing talk anywhere. I reckon we've done pretty well so far but there doesn't seem to be many movements in the market. With the Dolphins coming in as well it's going to be tough. Retaining players is tough as well.

Installing Sheens above him and appointing two new assistants is strongly suggestive the club wants signficant change. Note also Sheen's straight bat answers about Maguire in the SMH article. It doesn't auger well for him. FYI - criticising Maguire is not bashing.

Lastly, I am a supporter of Liddle but I did not high tail it off the forum when he hit hard times last year.

I wouldn't go that far. His defence is exceptional, but needs a higher work rate in attack. To be fair, he did seem to be improving as the season progressed.
