He won halfback of the year under our previous coach… but don’t let facts get in the way.

Couldn’t this all go in one of the 17 Luke Brooks threads available?

If you think he was the best halfback that year then you don’t know rugby league.

I never said he was, but the fact you can’t even acknowledge that he played well under Ivan Cleary tells me all I need to know about your knowledge of the game.

Did we make the finals?
He didn’t “play well”…he was ok in patches.

I was thinking the pro Brooks brigade are no different.

So blinded with their love they simply cannot see the truth or handle any negativity towards the chosen one.

It's a stalemate but the guy has the fans split but the truth still remains...

He's a local boy, a Tiger through and through.
We all wished he kicked on to successful heights and lead us to the land of finals but he's failed to deliver in an important position, year after year.
If it's his fault? Or the coaches, the players around him, I believe everyone can agree... we'd all prefer not to be having these discussions and instead celebrating success.

A Tiger through and through.
The Tigers, a reputation for 9th position... or lower.
Can't win the easy games, can't control the games, go to sleep in the last 30.
A reputation we have built... with Luke Brooks being at the core of it.

2022, enough is enough.
We're stuck with him, hopefully he can improve his game and show what we all have been expecting since the debut against the Dragons.

Otherwise, strap in lads.
The "Punt Him" comments will continue.

Maybe some, and the truth probably sits somewhere in the middle.

My opinion is that he is probably somewhere mid pack in terms of NRL halfbacks. He got compared to Joey as a kid and people are still getting over the fact he isn’t. Newsflash, there isn’t another Joey Johns. I don’t know if anyone has noticed but decent halfbacks are rare as hens teeth at the moment. That’s why guys like Hunt and Townsend are on stupidly big contracts even though they aren’t worth it.

It’s one thing to say punt Brooks, it’s another thing to find someone better, and then to bring that player here.

Hasting could also be a nothing here…
As up until now - that’s what he’s been in the NRL. He’s not debuting… he’s been around a while. In fact - almost as long as Brooks…

Half is easily the weakest it’s been for a long time

Cleary is probably the gold standard, but i reckon if he played in the 2000s-2010 he’d be middle of the road

I'm wondering what the sales pitch to him from the tigers has been?
*we are a successful club? 2005 seems a long time ago
*family atmosphere ♡ dunno
*team bonding, happy joy joy place - maybe
* we're building for greater things - prob
*we have several home grounds - boo
Problem is Sfef's been there for Madge's rants and the sides pathetic performances.
It's a hard sell.
Our faith in him by snapping him up out of obscurity at the eels is probably the only thing that stands out?...

We all thought Cleary, Aloiai and Matterson were good guys too until they screwed us over. Not saying Stef is the same, but history proves you can’t put these guys on pedestal’s character wise.

Had a discussion about this today sorta..

***Everyone*** hated DCE when he back flipped on the Titans yet ***no one*** cared when Teddy did it to the Raiders.

Manly fans?

Raiders fans?

I’m sure Raiders fans were pissed when he backflipped but yeah no one on our end was upset when he backflipped to come back to us wasn’t ***Moltzen supposed to be going to Dragons but he backflipped too?***

Not all Tigers fans were happy about that backflip.

I think DCE is still hated whereas Teddy is loved across the sport, to an extent.

Raiders fans, don't think they even remember.

Just from my point of view anyway.

Couldn’t this all go in one of the 17 Luke Brooks threads available?

Halfback of the Year for a team who came 9th. In 2018, Cronk had his debut year at Chooks and won a GF, Adam Reynolds got South's to Top 4 and Cleary debuted in Origin, but yeah Brooks was the best 7 in the Comp ???

Man you are salty! Did Brooksy steal your girlfriend or something?

No, she wouldn't leave me, im actually successful. I wouldn't and don't rate any 7 who has played 170 games and is yet to play in a Semi.

Brooks is like Frodo to me.
Tasked with a responsibility too great but without the fellowship (and other key characters), he's unable to advance to Mordor due to its burden.

I'm a huge fan of his, admit he's not developed into the leader I'd hoped he'd be and has been unable to reach his full potential but factoring in every challenge this club has faced and every limitation the team has had, it's not too hard to see why his (and the team's) progression has been like a roller-coaster.
Club and performance culture, recruitment and retention, infrastructures and systems have been poor for near a decade and people are still debating why we've been unable to create champion NRL players or a high performing team. Despite all this instability.
Collective leadership, coaches, teammates and standards help promote or optimise player and team development but without the necessary skills or resources (including players) the outcomes will always unsuccessfully reflect this - in the aforementioned aspects.

The worst thing about the low quality of our squads, over recent years, is that it's been hard to see who's going the extra mile. As sometimes there are players carrying the load of others and people rarely notice it. Not many are playing to the best of their capabilities and some don't even know what theirs are yet. Nor their limitations.
You cant fault one person for the team's lack of success. Also don't understand why people are harbouring any resentment over the Dally M halfback award. It's a great accomplshment despite the WTs failures.

Poor Luke has been called all sorts of things on here and some may have at times called him a midget, a dwarf and maybe even a Hobbit.

I like your analogy and that the Frodo thing wasn't used as an insult.

I think Luke generally does go the extra mile unlike some that have been in Wests Tigers squads over the years.

One of the examples that I can readily recall was the Souffs game where that scumbag Burgess scored that try under the posts in the dying moments.

Luke Brooks managed to get hold of the ball and ran the length of the field with me jumping up and down and riding him all the way to plant the ball under the cross bar at the other end of the field.

The referee on the day, to his credit, ran the length of the field and pointed to the spot, but it was to no avail as scumbag Burgess was awarded the try and poor Luke and thousands of Wests Tigers supporters were denied what would have been a glorious victory.

I often wonder how many other Wests Tigers players would have had the presence of mind or would have even thought to make the effort to run the length of the field and plant that ball under the cross bar.

I really felt for Luke that day and how he would have been gutted to lose that game and all the other disappointments he has suffered over many seasons playing in a team that has constantly failed to deliver, although many on here would have him as being solely responsible for that.

I have previously stated that I feel that this could be a big year for Luke and if it isn't I hope that at some stage in his NRL career he can achieve some sort of success regardless of whether that is here or at some other club.

If you think reading about Brooks is frustrating/ boring / annoying...

Try watching him play and reflecting on how the club has invested close to a decade into him and chopped and changed the team to try and play to his strengths for the same abysmal stuff, week in week out, year after year.

Also there is no Luke Brooks thread, the mod formerly known as willow locked it.

Demps, please give it a miss. There are no games now and it appears to have become a compulsive habit for some to put the boot into him. It is quite disturbing as well as incorrect and boring.

Dear all,

Friendly daily reminder that Brooks is lame.

I don't understand what dragging the bloke down achieves. I'm sure the players would jump onto the forum every now and then.

Being articulate and coming up with an alternate option, sure. That's fine. But some of the vitriol on here towards him achieves nothing.

The only thing it does do is drag his confidence down (if he were to read it or opinions filter through to media), which only makes our team even worse. To argue that he should be bigger than that also, misses the point. These guys are human beings and can't avoid hits to confidence or attitude.

People who do that really have no view of achieving the best outcome for all of us as a team. It's unfiltered emotional rubbish, only achieving negatives.
