Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

More importantly ,what you do with it! Very few sub standard or ordinary panic buys, though we still have a couple to move on. We have had a habit of replacing crap with crap, that is why we failed so badly.
Just think of the last few signings under Madge compared to the last few months. Klem for Tamou, Bateman for Garner etc. It’s chalk and cheese and Sheensy must be congratulated. I can’t think of a team that has had this turn around in a few short months.

Other than Cleary, most coaches before Sheens could only afford reserve grade signings, because the cap was that far out of shape, Sheens appointment has been at a fortunate time in respect of the cap position plus recent NRL cap increase what would have been the signing outcomes if he was appointed instead of Madge 3 years ago after Cleary’s spending spree. It all needs to be put into perspective of the prevailing circumstances.

But the same deadbeat argument still comes up by media morons and pundis about Maguire.

Sheens has let go a heap that were still under contract therefore having spare cash. No other coach has been able to do this. Credit where it is due.

Madge had 4 years not 3 to fix the problem. At the beginning of last season every member of the 30 man squad were either signed or extended by Madge. It was entirely his squad that he built, and it won the spoon

Yep he has got rid of some average players, but that’s all his predecessors could afford. What could have others done with the cap space available to Sheens, not forgetting Madge had already started the rebuild by ‘attracting’ API and IP , a pretty good start.

He didn't get those blokes signed until Sheens arrived on the scene and got deals done

Madge kept buying crap like bj, jimmy the jet, Tamou etc.The place was on the nose and so was his coaching. Sheens has turned it around and I expect major improvement next year under his leadership.
