Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

It’s not To’a. It’s the balance. I’d keep To’a if he was keen but we do not and have not had an experienced back in our side since Chris Lawerence retired.
Gags spent his whole time at Souths propping up Johnson’s try scoring record on the left. So he would still be an asset either way!
Douiehi is not an experienced back!
Gagai is a decent goal kicker too.

My mate Pascoe?

You were a fan of him weren’t you ? What are your thoughts then ?

I think he is quite possibly the biggest dufus in the history of this club which is saying something … just look at the cycle - bringing back Sheens, promoting him to coach, bringing in Benji to take over after only two years of any coaching experience , bringing in Scott Fulton to be football manager with zero consultation with the coaching staff … there is a whole Benny Hill show in that

Erm, I posted once in the off season (of 2022) that he was going to be bad, the woke sycophants on this forum tried to silence me. I'm just so happy with myself that I'm finally being proved correct, I've been saying for 38 months that he struggles to read in defence. Everyone on here was furious at me for being so negative, no one here was ready for my incredible rugby league knowledge. Toa's good performances and his improvement was just a ruse orchestrated by Benji and Richo to make another club buy him so we are force to resign their love child Douehi. I"M TIRED OF PEOPLE PUSHING THIS NARRATIVE THAT WE WILL BE GOOD ONE DAY PLS BRING IN A REAL COACH WITH GREY HAIR LIKE MATT ELIOTT OR GRIFFIN.
I seen Zoe this morning at the shops perusing over the Just For Men. When an old bald fella walked past and said “you might need two bottles” and Zoe replies with “at least he still has hair Wayne”

Not for long Zoe.

Some will fight you to the death and tell you JT was the biggest dufus. What about Lee? You know who else, Grant Mayer. A long forgotten dufus who would go on Twitter and abuse the fan base Donny T style when we’d draw a small crowd. And no, that’s not a defence of Pascoe, he was a dufus too. The point is we have a very very long list. Noffa, Anasta, Galvin, Matterson, Aloiai, the Rod Stewart wannabe on the board. Terry Lamb, Hoppa. It’s goddamn endless.

The King Dufus was here 8 years through… as the key decision maker at the club

What does being “woke”have to do with anything? We have to put up with that boomer term in almost every facet of life these days. Surely this is one subject where we can go over the ineptitude of this team and its players without making shit political.

Satire mate. Your post was spot on.

This expense is outside the salary cap … why can’t the tight arse owners pay to bring someone else into the club if this is indeed required ? The Bulldogs are paying for a CEO, and Phil Gould for example?
If you had a 1 million dollar budget to cover 3 roles, but someone convinced you to pay them the whole 1 million to cover all 3 roles, would you then go into deficit to help them do their job properly?
This is on Richo, don’t let him fool you.

I’ll bet you the Dogs are paying Gus and their CEO more than 2 million between them

I get the TDS thing, he wants more game time and we're not willing. Fine.

But please explain how it is a good idea and helpful in anyway for us to let him go now as opposed to the END OF THE SEASON?

It's just dumb.
I’ve thought a little about this
Are allowing him to go as he’s unlikely to stay with whats on offer and then be in a position for him to return when he is proven at the end of his contract

You all can sign any player or coach you want in your 'football manager' fantasy role plays. The problems at the club are structural. The football performance in the long-term won't change until they hire experienced and influential rugby league people in football management and development positions.
Absolutely. Players should be much more NRL ready when they play 1st grade. We seem to develop players in our top team. Benji and Richo can't be across everything.

Hence why most players who come here flounder.

We do not win the middle.

Start there.

Terrell May is an upgraded Alex Twal. Not a bad thing- he's a machine. But he doesn't win the contact. Sione Fainu is better at it. Samuela Fainu is better at it. Without trying to steal Payne Haas away, I would do away with trying to replicate Olokuatu in the backrow with Samuela & partner the brothers up front with May @ #13 & try & get metres through our middle.

The backrowers should be faster, danger runners. KPP coming in is one. Fifita is my pick as the other, if possible. Hassett, Garner...there are a couple of lower options...but Fifita has the ability to dominate.

Then you have Pole, Twal, Sukkar, Seyfarth, Hunt, Kit, Bird etc to play 3 of 4 bench spots (or other recruits).

Need a dummy half capable utility on the bench. Freddy Lussick is my guy, but there are others. Just not carrying a specialist dummy half who can only take the field at Api's expense. Gives greater versatility & allows for extra attacking flair.

Latu & Luai are the halves. Mason is a decent back-up development guy. We need someone we can bring in to fill a gap if Luai or Latu go down. Ilias would be great if he's willing to fight for a role- which is what he's relegated to at St George anyway.

We need to know what Taylan May is. He's a likely upgrade at either centre or wing- but is he a centre or winger?

Doueihi, who I love, forgets he has a winger in support, rendering Skelton to limited duties. To'a & Turuva are fine as a combination on the other side.

If May is a centre- I'd look at either Tyrell Sloan or Charlie Saab (Tartak client) outside him. Makes that side very dangerous through speed. (Tallyn swap for Saab..)

If May is a winger- I agree with some others, Gagai knows how to bring the winger into play & unlocks what Taylan May can bring to the team. As much as I want Doueihi at the Tigers- he does fail in this area. Gagai is an Aplha mentality too & we need much more of that.

Sweeping changes cannot & will not happen. So strategic tinkering is required. Greater depth & specific types of recruitment. It's not like the players are not trying. And it's not like all the players are hopeless. It's just not getting the best out of them yet.

Completely expected the loss last night, would have preferred some better D on the goal line but is what it is.

The team just doesn't have the same belief when Luai isn't on the field.

Sack Benji and Luai is gone too. They are the ones actively trying to change the culture of the club, it's been a long term issue and will need a long term solution.

Personally I don't need a sugar fix finals appearance. I want to see the club change completely which I believe we are on the right track to happening, it's just going to take longer than any of us would like.

If you don't have patience, sure change the coach and rebuild the squad again, same old same old.

The club needs to stick to something for once, incremental improvement each year is enough.

Your first line says it all..But …

What worries me about KPP is he seems more “finesse” then strength and aggression …I was talking to a mate at the game and we agree that he seems your classic “built like Tarzan, plays like Jane “ type…I mean a lot say the same about Fifita as well to be honest..

They need more Lenui mongrel in that forward pack …he would be my pick for them to go after

Also, good to see you now putting Latu into the halves bracket and not the 13 or 14…thus needs to be at least a two year commitment playing him there

Unfortunately a lot of other guys you mention are more fringe first grader types when they need 2 or 3 more established bigger names to make a real difference… I don’t think that’s coming though

I honestly don't think Benji & the coaching are the problem.

It's important to remember we are a club only a season or two removed from Jackson Hastings, Brandon Wakefield etc being our halves.

We started from a very low base. Things are better. A few more tweaks & we will be better. Nearly all the players CAN be improved on, but nearly all the players are also good enough.

The moves the club makes in recruitment & retention are important. It's about getting the right mentality as much as the right skills.

Second rowers are becoming more finesse...outside of Martin & Young types. It's the middle we are losing. Props & locks etc. Sam Fainu is getting wasted running off the halves. Charge him right up the guts with his speed & aggression. Let him pop off a few hits in the middle.

KPP offers the speed & size. So long as he isn't afraid to tackle- he's fine. Fifita is getting crucified for perceived lack of effort. Is he Hudson Young? No. Is he invisible? No. He'll still get you your 120m a game, even if he isn't always dominating. Thing is...he CAN dominate. Seyfarth cannot.

The only thing I’ll say is… did you watch the Dogs v Penrith game ?

The improvement in a lot of those Dogs players is remarkable …. And I can only put that down to the coaching staff…

I mean …Connor Tracey is 29 years old ! He is now one of the top 3 FBs going around this season … where the hell did that come from ?

As much as it pains me because I hate them ..but I’ll say that Dogs team is winning a premiership soon …might be this year…
