Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Think I’d pass on that deal … how motivated is he gunna be with one foot out the door already… want to be cheap
Same way T May Snr come over from roosters , unwanted there and come hear all systems go and does a great job , 18 months would be perfect , we know what we got and when both he and Luai are leaving gives us time to groom our juniors or replace with other first grade purchases ,I think the rooster may even drop a few bucks in to move him on , $ 150 k per year or so be ok

No ..it’s not the same … they are different players in different circumstances…one came here with a lot to prove after being sacked , and the other one would be killing time to his big pay day ..

Anyway ..I don’t see it happening… I doubt Benji wants him to begin with and the Roosters would prefer him to go elsewhere ..probably out of Sydney if they let him go mid season I reckon …

Royce has been good.
Need balance
Think the key is to have young guns coming thru which we lock in for low $$ We supposedly have a great nursury
When push comes to shove,we cant afford to keep them all
Issue for us is whether we have the right balance of juniors vs established players to make an impression on the finals series..and whether we have the right juniors to take us all the way
Name one young guy coming through bigger , stronger and runs harder than Royce and hits harder than Royce , big call

James graham’s interview with Josh Schuster is great for anyone who wants to watch. Seems like a good kid with a balanced head

Spoke of how he wasn’t ready when he went back to the Rabbits and only signed because Wayne had expressed interest and he didn’t want it to be a ‘what if’ situation

Also said he is training hard because he wants to be ready for a pre-season in the NRL next year

Said Benji was his favourite player growing up

Might be worth a look, looks fit as

We need a strike right centre to compliment the physicality, toughness and aggression that Taylan brings on the left.
19y.o Mason Barber currently contracted to the Cowboys, but off contract at the end of this season is a fullback who has been playing very well for the Mackay Cutters in the Qld Cup this season since transitioning to centre and is rumoured to be considering offers from Sydney clubs for 2027 and beyond.
He’s a Kkwi who like Benji come to Australia to go to school and play rugby league at Keebra Psrk and like Benji he has a lethal step of both feet and plenty of natural attacking flair.
Many good judges believe he is a high quality NRL player in waiting and I think he could be someone who could potentially be the additional x-factor we need on our right hand side.
Like many young players his defence is a work in progress, but he has that talk? Writer strong physique and plenty of speed, so there is no reason why his defence should not improve with more experience, confidence and good coaching.
Cant see them bringing in another kid blocking Makasinis pathway

If it’s not over 9 he shouldn’t have signed.
From a WT perspective I hope it’s under but I reckon if he goes to market someone like the new dragqueens coach is throwing a 1 at him in a package deal.
Anyone with half a brain can see how he is the one that finally moved the needle on the field for us, and although you’ve probably only got half a brain to coach the queens there will be plenty of half-brainers out there desperate enough.
Agree that he is getting plenty of offers over 9 but I doubt Dragons would be one of them. Kaloamatangi going there on a Mil next year alongside Couchmans and Stewart I think there starting middles are sorted.
It's their backline that isn't good enough, spine players especially so.

We need experienced established first graders to play out wide 🙄…

We got enough of our own young lottery tickets at the club already… the problem is having them go through the growing pains when they are learning on the job
The only experienced NRL right centres currently available for 2027 are Will Penisini and Jake Averillo.
I would happily take either of them, but Penisini is managed by Isaac Moses which would make that hard.
I believe Averillo would significantly inprove us at right centre, but he also has his defensive issues at times.
When you say Lottery Ticket on young players, anyone who has seen Mason Barber play will tell you it’s near certain he will become a regular NRL player by 2027 at the latest and it’s a very good chance he will become an elite player very quickly whether that be at centre, fullback or on the wing.
If we want a quick fix low cost right centre upgrade for this season, Max Feagai would be a good option.
Also with the bad news of Samuela being out injured for most of the season, we should have a look at Thomas Fletcher currently at the Rabbitohs but not getting any game time in their NRL team despite him being a standout in NSW Cup almost every week.
While I’m happy to see how Sione goes starting on the left edge and I do believe Tony Sukkar can make an impact and keep improving if given more opportunity, I think we lack a back rower who has good speed and agility to be a real attacking threat.

Read an article about him yesterday

Averillo would be ideal for us …he is a right sided player where we are weak …Penisi would be a second prize …but I would take him …Moses is an issue that we work around ..like we did with the Bula

There is a logic fail with the young Cowboy player .. they have a big hole from next year in their backline .why would they be letting him go if he is the talent you are describing?

Respectfully..players being “standouts” in NSW Cup doesnt much to me, particularly when they are being ignored by their own clubs ..the gulf in the grades now is bigger than its ever been

Sukkar deserved another chance this week on his preferred side IMO…generally I doubt any good outside back rower is coming here to be behind the two talents already at the club ..
