Re DCE and Ben Hunt...

DCE IMHO is a legend and a halfback that is better then Nathan Cleary IMHO.
Queensland has the whole Thurston + Storm players to pick from.

I won't deride Hunt, he was at Brisbane twice when it made the Grand finals and has been a part of successful Origin campaigns. But Hunt was never seen as the Conductor of the side.

Hunt never lifted the Dragons to a grand final. DCE did that for Manly and that makes him a NRL Legend (ok he is also totally up himself, but meh).

Both DCE and Hunt are just too damn old. Heck Munster is talking retirement.
I wish I lived on your planet.

Sounds like a nice place.

Had a crack at our salary cap position for 2027 in the Roster thread. I can see how we won't have too much to throw around based on my estimates.

We desperately need to keep and extend Samuela and Latu beyond the end of the 2027 season.
How much can we afford to pay them as our top offer ?
I think we will need to pay around 750k maybe more to keep Samuela and you would hope Latu accepts around 400k ?

It's hard to say re Samuela with the salary cap rising with the new TV rights deal from 2028. Possibly $800-$900k with an upgrade next season to $700k. What did Dylan Lucas extend on I wonder? I'm sure Mario Tartak/Crown is using him as a recent indicator.

I know what you mean when you say centre pairing R.O.G
But I don’t think we will hear turns like “Cronin around the corner pass to Ella “ or “ Meninga to Close on the burst”
Centre to Centre passing is a thing of the past UNFORTUNATELY
Funny you say that @Oldman , I have noticed that with the Roosters in nearly every game, Savala swings over to both sides to either link up or ball play as an extra half. Back to the future.

Preston is going to be a good indicator on where Samuela’s value is at. Believe his management wants to start at $750,000.

A few tid bits on the Knights from their inside man at the Newcastle Herald Barry Toohey ...

- Dane Gagai will head the departure list from this year's top squad that will also include the likes of Tyson Gamble, Brodie Jones and Wilson De Courcey. De Courcey knocked back a two-year contract extension early last month, with his agent confident of securing a more lucrative deal elsewhere.

- Knights winger James Schiller has been told he won't be offered a new deal at the club beyond next season which could potentially lead to an early exit. After rejecting an offer from the Dragons last season, he has on-going permission to negotiate with rival clubs and the Knights would not stand in his way if he was able to secure a longer-term deal elsewhere. A sticking point may be next season's hefty price tag.

- Still on the roster, another position could potentially open up for next year if centre Kyle McCarthy decides to quit the Knights at the end of this season. The 22-year-old has an option in his contract in his favour for next season so his future is in his own hands. He has until the end of this month to let the Knights know if he is taking up the option and staying or moving on. His form in NSW Cup this season has been strong and we're told there has been some interest in him from elsewhere. However, whether a contract offer materialises in the next few weeks remains to be seen.

Israel Folau‘s Wife just posted a video on IG saying Benji was the one that contacted him to be apart of the WT for the remainder of the season and tried to get a contract lodged with the NRL.
