Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Surely he’s worth around 400 - 450k to us?
If we could get him for that type of money I would sign him for 2 years as he is a very intelligent and classy player.
It would create plenty of competition for halves positions, but that is much better than having limited options.

I guess …

Would the Warriors match that to keep him ? You would think so with Jett Cleary and Metcalf moving on from their halves …

Daily Telegraph: WARRIORS CENTRE LOOKING FOR EXIT

Warriors centre Adam Pompey could be on the move after New Zealand granted him permission to speak to rival clubs.

It is understood a host of Super League clubs are circling Pompey who still has another 12 months left on his contract.

Pompey re-signed with the club for two seasons before the start of last year but has found himself in and out of first grade this year.

The Warriors have a stack of outside backs arriving next year including Grant Anderson (Broncos) and Will Warbrick (Melbourne).

Pompey, 28, is free to go while veteran, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is off to Super League club Wakefield Trinity.
I reckon we need another centre who can not only play NRL when we get an injury, but provide genuine pressure for a starting position when we are full strength.
If we are being serious and as good as Herbert has been for us at times, we really need him well down the pecking order and only to be used if we are in an injury crisis.
It is still not confirmed if we are keeping Saukuru or not and I was very happy to seee him get his NRL opportunities which were thoroughly deserved, but has he done enough to be a priority re-signing as our main back up centre?
Then we have Makasini who I still think will eventually be a top class centre, but he struggled this season and I think most of our fans agree it seems like we need him on the wing for a season or two establishing himself as a quality NRL winger before considering moving him back into the centres.
So when we hear that proven good quality NRL centres such as Sebastian Kris and now Adam Pompey are becoming available, surely signing one of them is a high priority.
The depth and pressure players like them could provide would make us a better team and much better equipped to cover when we have an injury to starting centres such as Taylan May and Jake Averillo.
As previously mentioned, Sebastian Kris is also a good quality winger when playing anywhere near his best and I recall Adam Pompey also playing a few decent games on the wing at NRL level.

I agree he definitely has talent.
But iff Attard is only around around 178cm you would ask the question has he got the game to be a better back up fullback than someone like Joash Papali’i who is supposedly available?
Joash has plenty of speed, footwork and unpredictability which is something we do not have much of within our current squad.
Only problem with Joash is that he has plenty of errors in his game as well.

Is not the basic issue, as pretty well shown last few weeks with someone else in halves, is that Doueihi just doesn't often enough pass the ball, whether at 7 or 6. Our backline actually started working somewhat when they were actually getting ball. I don't think Doueihi should have a place in the halves in 27 but will his ego allow him to play elsewhere in team. Current example is no, and that was never tested as Benji folded.
They dont get early ball often enough

BWG - Skelton has produced some of his best football over the past fortnight, crossing for three tries across his past two appearances while providing the Tigers with plenty of punch coming out of their own end.
The powerful outside back carried the ball 20 times for 152 metres in the Tigers' clash with the Roosters, backing up a 130-metre performance against North Queensland.

What it highlights is it directly corresponds with Madden being the half in those games.
To put it another way---it directly corresponds with Doueihi not being the half in those games.

Te Maire Martin
Not a superstate, but his little subtleties with ball in hand really bring his ball runners onto the ball and he has always had a very good show and go himself.
I think we are ok in the halves even if we do not sign anyone, but we would have to at least give a player like him consideration.
Thanks Vicious i should have known. How are you hope your well.

looks like Vlandys having to step in already ,.. turning into a joke

This is only going to get worse.

PNG believe that they have 'carte blanche' to create a super team, and that underpaying players due to the tax-free threshold allows them to manipulate the rules.

There will be a major backlash from all clubs. It's already started.

Last Friday, PNG board member Marcus Bai received a formal warning from the NRL regarding anti-tampering guidelines after commenting publicly on Nathan Cleary. They have offered him a $6m contract, so they are trying to build the team now for unders around him.

It's an absolute disgrace, considering how much the Bears are struggling.

Well .. Vlandys is trying to nip this in the bud So not sure it’s going to get worse .:: Canberra have offered $1.1m and PNG only $900k … so they will need to pay him $1.1m …

If you're on a $1.1m contract or salary in Australia you will pay $482,870 in tax.

$900,000 tax free sounds pretty good to me. There is a major problem that's brewing quickly.
