Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Regardless of his obvious defensive issues, I agree that re-signing Fonua Pole is an important part to our puzzle moving forward.
There is no doubt the current game heavily revolves around field position and you need players who carry the ball strongly.
Fonua Pole no doubt carries the ball very strongly and there are not a lot of alternate options to replace him if we do lose him.
Being quite young, 23, turning 24y.o in 2027, he is now becoming an experienced NRL player approaching his prime years and surely his defence will start to improve.
KPP again last night showed glimpses of his quality and we all saw that he inntandem with Samuela Fainu gives us a more than competitive edge back row combination.
They are both still improving and I don’t think it’s a realistic option to move either one of them from edge back row on a permanent basis, but there is no doubt we also need more speed and attacking threat across our team, including in our forward pack, which usually comes from somewhere within the back row.
Given that neither KPP or Samuela have what you would call explosive speed, we definately need 1, maybe 2 players off the bench who can add a bit of explosive speed and x-factor to our forward pack.
We have obviously recruited Kurt Mann for one season to try and provide some attacking impetus as an interchange player coming on to play 13, we will also need a plan moving forward from 2028 onwards.
Our halves in 2027 and beyond are obviously our biggest question mark. I think we owe it to our current t 4 main contenders to let them fight it out for our 2 NRL starting positions in 2027 and find out if any of them are going tj be the real deal moving forward.
It could mean the 2027 season is a bit of a trial season for us, but genuine competition and hope could also work in our favour.
As most of our fans agree, the addition of Jake Averilllo should add some much needed speed, class and attacking flair.
The question is, will he alone be enough to turn a bog average boring backline into one that is highly competitive in the week to week NRL grind.
I maintain we need at least one more good quality or potentially good quality outside back to add badly needed competition and depth.
Let’s see what we come up with over the next few weeks.

I wasn't impressed with Hayward when he came on to replace Api in the Fiji game. Defended well but very stocky and NO ZIP from Dummy half. I expected more from what has been posted on here.
IMO didn't look like the next best hooker to be anointed for WT. Fingers crossed I got it wrong BUT?
What I did like is the fitness level of Manase Fainu in the photo with Latu. I see ZIP there.
And appears to have some fire in the belly to get it done with his brothers. Fingers crossed there.
Haywood didn’t play for Fiji it was Lanyon…..plus I fail to see how you judge zip or speed out of dummy half from a still photo……

We havent seen Masese...but once very highly rated, and kept Api out of Eagles..and a very low risk contract
Haywood didnt overwhelm when given opportunity, but hes young.but so jury out on him too
Api is such a hard act to follow,we need all options

I have already apologised for my mistake thinking it was Haywood when in fact it was Lanyon.
Lanyon was short and stocky and didn't show any speed whatsoever.
IMO wrong body shape for an 80 min. dummy half with darting runs thrown in.
Manese has a proven track record at Manly as a hooker and [from the photo] looked pretty fit and willing so I am hoping it comes to fruition.
Lanyon had none of that look about him and is way down the hooking pecking order apparently.
Having said that, he looks like he would be way down the pecking order for any other position as well.

Manese has lost a lot of muscle mass and looking very straight out of parklea (understandably).. will be interesting to see where he can get his body. My First thoughts are im unsure body wise if he still a 9? Obviously more questions than answers at the moment, but recent media written and video he looks like he in a very good head space which you would assume at a minimum will be very good for the 3 bros. If he can lock himself into the 17 would be a cheery on top and could result in something special. From my view where i am a bit bored with the NRL and wests tigers in general I have a lot of time from him and would be very exciting seeing him back. That would be a pretty crazy story

In Lanyons debut match this year for us, I thought he played ok, didn’t miss to many tackles and gave reasonable service out of dummy half to what I can remember. I was thinking he needs to get his timing better, and I suppose that comes in more time in the NRL and adjusting to the pace of the game.

Lanyon and players of similar ability will be in the NRL consistently with the expansion of the competition.

TBH,neither player were as impressive as TDS at same age,but that ship has sailed.
Api still good for another year maybe two at reduced minutes..we have an aging Braily as a back up..and its up to the two young blokes to make their mark and stand up
We need better than Simpkin or Liddle in what is a key position
Manese wont be playing NRL in 2027...he is/was as talented as any of the above, except Api(who he did push out of Eagles)
Another option on the table as I see it
