Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Anyone else find it weird that the Roosters only have dollar values next to the players they are trying to get rid off (and Cronk) ?

everyone else just has a tick.

Not weird, but ah, convenient.

The ticks just mean the Salary wasn't reported in the Media at the time of signing…

Zero Tackle only put in figures that are 'Reported'..for all Clubs..

I’d keep my powder dry sign RTS for 2019 and Cleary for 2020.

Exactly.

We get a good team base together. Great guys, who can play well for OK money.

We cull the weaker players. We then hunt the strongest.

Fullback is one of our greatest weaknesses at the moment. I like Lolohea, but other then him I think were weak there. I can see us getting a great FB, Marshall retiring and Lolohea moving to that off the bench spot. RTS would do nicely.

Likewise Halfback, Brooks will probably fail. He will probably get replaced by Marshall week 6.

Nobody knows - but I think you are incorrect with your feelings on Lolohea. I think he will be a great full back (his preferred position). He thinks about the game and usually takes the right option i.e. short kick, chip kick, short / long pass or run to the line - he can do all these things (Teddy could not, because he wanted to score the try, he wanted to be the star). Tui is no worse a defender than Teddy, in fact at full back he is a much better defender than he is at 5/8\. On the form shown this year, I think we are in a stronger position at full back than 2017\. Don't get the negativity on this guy, I think he has the x factor.

As for Brooks - people on here seem to be wishing that he fails. For those people that think this way, I feel you will be disappointed. There won't be any need for him to be replaced in week 6 or any other week unless he is injured of course.

Don't get me wrong at all.
Lolohea has awesome potential and unlike our halfback hasn't had time to show that. I think he was an awesome buy and hopefully will turn out to be a fun player to watch.
Other then hiring cap penalities, we should not sign anyone else unless they are a really cheap gun we need.

We have a stack of Wingers, but only really Lolohea is earmarked for Fullback and he hasn't spent a lot of time there. Kev N is another choice and he has been hot/cold in the past, glad too see him heat up lately. I think we will be weak there till he gets used to the position and how he fits defensively.

Lets break the 8 in 2018.

Can you direct me to the "Really Cheap Guns," I'd love to see what one looks like.

Rumours are that dylan napa may be released from the roosters.. parra are making a play for him. I really hope ivan is keeping a eye on what happens with him because i think he will be a awesome addition to our squad. Thoughts anyone??

Would be nice but usually when a good player is released he already has a new deal organized and there has been plenty of talk about him going to parra

Would really love to see him at tiger's though.

What a front row we would have

8\. Packer
10\. Napa

16\. Twal
17\. Matulino

Exactly what a front row rotation

Tim Grant in ISP as back up

Sue in ISP or back row rotation

So much depth and power in the forward pack

Definitely pass on Napa for me, that's too much coin to be spending on props with Packer and Matulino already on good money. Twal, Sue, Grant and Felise are more than adequate to cover the remaining minutes in the front row.

In 2017 Napa averaged:
24.8 tackles per game with 2.9 missed (relatively low work rate and high missed tackle count for a prop)
Less than 100m per game (98.3m - low considering his minutes)
Less than 9m per hitup
Less than one tackle break per game
0.3 offloads per game
…in an average of about 48 minutes per game.

I know stats don't tell the whole story, but those stats certianly give me a fair idea why the Roosters might be looking to shift him off their books given the coin he's reportedly on...

Wholeheartedly agree with you Nelson , we dont need anybody else at this stage, i think we have a good mix, if anyone maybe sio takeohu

I'd be surprised if we're looking at anyone at the moment.

I hope you mean for 2018

We should never stop looking , you never know who or what might become available

The time for resting on our laurels is over , we will never match it with the Roosters ,Melbourne , Sharks Cowboys recruitment wise if we do

Leilani Latu -> Titans

They'll have a decent pack next year:

8\. Ryan James
9\. Nathan Peats
10\. Leilani Latu
11\. Kevin Proctor
12\. Jai Arrow
13\. Jarrod Wallace

14\. Brenton Lawrence
15\. Morgan Boyle
16\. Jack Stockwell
17\. Mitch Rein

How much space do have left under the cap? Will be in a postion where will have to spend to be compliant?Leave it to Ivan he will have it sorted.

Roughly $770k total, for 2 players (Estimated figures).
I don't think we have to spend that, we can upgrade two younger players, and front end the contracts of others in 2018 to save money for 2019 and onwards if we like.

Ivan/Pascoe did say that they can sit back and see what happens, might sign someone if the right person comes along. We aren't in a position like the Knights where we still have massive holes in the roster.

Gee if we only have 770K left out of 9.4M compared to the Rorters some of our blokes are getting overpaid..

Agree Geo. It has to at least be $1mil+

The guys also spent to a lower cap - the final negotiations were after all our signings.
