Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I don't understand why people are getting their panties in a knot. Sure, he's a bog average player, and won't see any 1st grade, so what does it matter? We had around about $1m left on the cap, and now at most we have $900k. We also have to fill the roster by June 30\. Worst case scenario he's gone by November 1 next year.

This is the first signing I don’t fully understand. Like many others I think our backrow needs a boost. But, I have totally bought into Cleary’s leadership so I’m happy to accept that he knows a lot more about what we need than I do. Go Tigers 2018!!

We have plenty of depth in the back row it is just Quality we lack. Considering 1 spot was always going to be a budget signing I don’t know what people are flipping out about.

We have the money and roster position available for a top notch player, but we have to wait for the right one.

To quote the ex fake captain, ''It is what it is''

Our season was not going to live or die off this signing. He'll provide depth. You can never have enough depth.

An ISP player, at little cost.

So if this Guys is an ISP player is he or isn't he in the top 30?

He is in the top 30 but will be playing ISP at hooker I'd imagine. With Liddle coming off double shoulders recos and McIlwrick playing on busted knees and question marks over whether either of them can play 80 I can't say I'm shocked we signed another hooker…

This is a really weird signing. I get he's supposed to be a utility but, surely we could have done a little bit better.

Yes when you consider who has been (and still is) available over the off season, it's really disappointing. I don't understand Ivan's reluctance to go hard after a player with some Xfactor. It's not like we haven't got the money to throw around and we're still missing that game-breaking player, imo. Maybe Yossarian can shed some light on this? He seems to be in the know at the club.

You think liddle and mckillrick are going to make the full season. His a big chance of playing.

He's a place filler for minimum cost. We're not going to win this year, so we save the cash, open up his spot next year and go hard for someone decent.

Worst thing we could do is spend 300-400k on someone who isn't going to increase our spot on the ladder one bit. Save the cap for another year.

The honeymoon for Ivan is nearly over. The knives will be out by mid season.

Not by me. The guy deserves a lot longer in the role. Let's see how he goes but I haven't felt this good about a coach since Sheens came here.

As for the signing being bad I just don't see it. We have our team for next year and it's the first year in a rebuilding phase. I think coming from the perspective we look pretty well set-up. A lot can change with a couple of wins and hopefully a quality signing or a junior or two coming on.

Not sure I understand letting a low cost young utility like Marshall King go and signing a never has been 29 year old Goodinet. Real head scratcher but at minimum wage no real issue. I assume this means we are holding one spot with 700-800k in cap room for next year.

**Wests Tigers sign Pita Godinet**

Wests Tigers have today confirmed the signing of Samoan international Pita Godinet for the coming season.

Godinet has played 61 career games since making his first-grade debut for the New Zealand Warriors in 2011, moving to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in 2014 for two seasons before returning to the NRL with the Manly-Warrinhah Sea Eagles.

He has also played 10 Tests for Samoa, having recently featured in the 2017 Rugby League World Cup campaign.

Wests Tigers Head Coach Ivan Cleary welcomed Godinet to the club.

“Pita is an experienced player who is capable of playing every position in the spine, which is a great asset for our squad,” Cleary said. “He has plenty of experience in big games with Samoa, and we look forward to him joining Wests Tigers in 2018.”

Wests Tigers CEO echoed Cleary’s welcome to Godinet.

“On behalf of everyone at the club I’d like to welcome Pita to Wests Tigers,” said Pascoe. “We’ve built a squad that offers depth across the park and we look forward to seeing Pita add to that when he joins us.

“We’re entering an exciting time for Wests Tigers and we look forward to having Pita as a part of that,” he said.

Well for mine when you looked at our 28 squad players for next year it seemed that a a spine utility particularly to cover 1/2 and/or 5/8 was lacking.
So for mine it seems a reasonable low cost addition which may prove successful short term addition.
Now the search for a good quality full back should be a priority.

I doubt he'll see any first grade

Hmmm. Depending on what our first grade bench looks like next year. If we run with two hookers then Pita would be next in line if injury strikes Liddle or Mcilwrick. If we run with a utility on bench and Benji spends time in nrl, then Pita may be playing in halves and next up should injury strike any of our halves.

I think we needed a utility like this to cover spine. Whether he is the right guy for that spot I don’t know.

I still think we are pretty short of depth for fullback and hoping our final signing is a strike back in the 1-5.
