Yes it does. I don't know if this is a good thing for us or not, I would much rather go into the season with a full compliment of players who actually play for us!

My understanding it would be our 29th as this is just an exemption to give us more time as these rules are just coming in. There is another club with an exemption but I cant remember who it was.

Yeah it's a bit ambiguous. In theory right now we have 30 counting Ballin and Sironen. There's an exemption for us to go to 31 because Ballin had a career ending injury. As it was told to me C Sironen could be removed from our books pretty easily.

So short answer, there is room for two but no requirement to act on it as of now.

Any idea why Ballin is still on the books? He signed a 2 year deal that started in 2016 and ended last season. Isn't that deal over now?

He had an option in his favour.

It's defiantly a good thing, otherwise we would of been forced to upgrade or try lure someone over this week. Now we can take our time and if there is a good opportunity we can take it as people have mentioned we can still fill those spots. Maybe we could restructure or frontload a contract to give us more to play with next year.

I've heard a few of them interviewed who have commented on GF's not wanting to leave

My information, and I believe it to be accurate, is that we are paying C Sironen money and he does count as a top 30 player. Matt Ballin also counts but gets no money out of our cap.

Ballin was signed to a 2 year deal starting 2016, and ended last year. He isn't on the cap, nor is he a top 30 player.

Sironen, while some of his wages are counted on our salary cap (very little, something like $100k of a $400/500k contract), he is not a top 30 player. You CAN NOT be counted as a player for a club while at another club. So our top 30 still has 2 spots (well technically 1 and no. 29 had to be filled by March 1st.

Hope this has cleared this up.

Well it doesen't actually because Tigers and Manly both recieved an exemption from the NRL to have not chosen a 29th player by March 1st - now thats cleared up

I Strongly believe we will be signing Ben Barba very soon and we could really use his speed and elusiveness in our squad if not this year then next.

Hope you're right mate. I'm not too worried about him playing up, just put it in the contract, where if he does, we can cut him loose. Like Idris last year, if it fails, it doesnt really matter. (as long as we aren't paying too much) 350 a year tops i reckon.

Give him a deal like the roosters supposedly gave Frank Paul. $60k

Isn’t there a base level that they have to pay, I’m pretty sure that it’s a fair bit bigger than 60k
