Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Warriors playing like us last week.

Actually last week was the happiest I’ve been after a loss.. whilst I was super depressed about not getting the 2 points and sorry for the crowd that turned up … I was just so impressed by the input given by Farah and Mbye. For the first time all year we got our mojo back in attack - scintillating to watch.
The dumb lapses in defence were depressing but we showed early in the season we can tackle when we want to.
I just want to make the semis so the loss was damaging to our chances.

It is very interesting reading the responses from the media story. Perhaps it is worthwhile to mention a few facts:

1) Ivan is at the start of a rebuilding process. Although his record is good, realistically, he hasn't achieved anything as yet at the Tigers. In an interview, he said we are a 3-5 year project, I believe the Broncos will want a top coach with a recent, proven track record. They were recently after Bellamy and I feel there is a bit of a gap between Bellamy and Cleary given their records.

\
2) To my mind, Nathan Cleary is still a _potential_ superstar. He hasn't really owned the competition and by his own admission is still coming to grips with the origin arena. There have been many that have shown star potential at an early age and plateaued. For halfbacks I would say Brett Finch, Pearce and even our own Brooks are examples of this. Very good first grade players but not JT or Johns.

\
3) Package deals like this can end in tears. As we know, coaches come and go and having your marquee player the son of the coach could be risky if sustained success is not forthcoming. Especially at a place like the Broncos who expect to win.

There may be some truth to the rumour however I think It is a substantial gamble on the Bronco's behalf to sign them both given that they still have a bit to prove.

This! Smartest thing I’ve read here for a while.

With Benji retiring at the end of the year this young bloke would be the perfect replacement. He won't stay at Pennies with Maloney, Cleary and Tyrone May in front of him and all contracted next year.

Ivan would have had some involvement you assume which should help.

Ivan needs to remind gus he's given him Grant and Malaka back….fair swap i reckon

Two tries only last week. Tigers were dreadful. No patience whatsoever. Not sure why there trying to score off every play. Reek of desperation. Like me on a Friday night at a pub. Haha

Your easily pleased Tony.

I’m desperate so maybe I need to ditch the rose coloured glasses 😍

Haha. Yeah maybe.
I think 2005 ruined footy for me. I grew up not expecting the magpies to make the finals. Avoiding the spoon and beating parra was a great year.
Now I actually expect us to actually make the 8\. I don't know how to go back to when I was happy losing.

Are we really at a point where we are rushing to sign players after 1 quality performance.

This kids quality

I agree he looked very talented tonight but I would like to go off more than just one performance. Quite a few people seemed to have watched Oliver Clark in Penrith’s lower grades so maybe they can provide more insight here.

He’s a kiwi, so by definition, hot and cold.

Agree particularly on Nathan Cleary. He is a good player, but he hasn't shown that much. Keep in mind he plays behind perhaps the most dominating forward pack in the competition as well. I don't think he is close to anywhere near the $1m dollar mark we, and other clubs will throw at him. How would he go behind a ordinary pack? On the contrary, how would Brooks go behind that flourishing pack at Penrith? Brooks could be world class for all we know.

Heaps of natural ability in Luai but week in week out in the NRL is very different. Perfect scenario for him against big tired forwards missing tackles. Once teams are onto him and put him under pressure I doubt he’d look anything like that each week.

And don't forget who Maloney as a halves partner.

I've said it before, if brooks was at the roosters or panthers, or team with a strong pack he would be earning bigger $$'s and be in serious contention for SOO.

He was up there in the daily m's when our pack was firing. Everybody had praise for him. Now our pack is getting bent over and many want to get rid of brooks again.

I think we all saw just how good Brooks (and Benji for that matter) can be playing behind a dominating forward pack when ours actually played like that for all of 6 weeks at the start of the season. It's no coincidence that their form dropped dramatically once our forwards lost the plot, and they are now having to resort to 'Hail Mary' plays all the time to try and get the upper hand back.

No matter how good the backs are it's the forwards that win matches and we are in desperate need of some kick arse forwards who run with aggression and can offload, otherwise it's going to be the same old story for us every season. Penrith are so bloody lucky to have so many of this type of forward all playing together at the same time - I'd be happy if we could just jag one or two!

Penrith are guaranteed a Premiership in the next year or two if they keep this squad intact, imo. I can't believe they are actually contemplating sacking the coach! Gould must be an idiot!

Yesterday everyone thought sege was heading to the eels even slothfield saying it would happen only for him to then comeback and say its definitely not a possibility. Mole also saying it's definitely not happening.

We need to take a leaf out of Newcastles book…they went out on a limb and signed ponga with very little Nrl experience....i really think this kid is going to be the goods....im just sick and tired of this club signing washed up hacks from clubs with losing cultures

Who the hell is sege….and who cares what parra are doing

Id take this one step further. Lets form an official partnership with Patrician Brothers Fairfield and St Gregories Campblpelltown etc

Blue ribbon school = Well coached kids from decent families who understand structure and discipline.

While we are at it lets go get our Keebra Park system back. Was never happy that the muppet played a part in taking that away.

This is what we need, our junior systems were at there best in the Keebra Park days
