Sorry Geo & Co. but I wouldn't be putting the red marker through Curtis Rona's name just yet. He's currently stuck in NRC (level above Shute Shield) with the Sydney Rays as he hasn't made the cut for the Wallabies' rugby championship campaign. Furthermore, his position of outside centre (#13) is stacked with Matt Toomua coming back to Oz. He's got Reece Hodge, Tevita Kuridrani, Samu Kerevi and Jordan Pataia all ahead of his In the pecking order.

The truth is, I don't know if he'll make the 32 man squad for the rugby world cup in 2019\. When you factor in the above, and the fact that he's played with Reynolds, Mbye and Corey Thompson @ the dogs - his signature wouldn't be as far fetched as some on here would imply. He literally has half a season of super rugby with the Waratahs (where he's not even guarenteed a start next year) with new recruits & a season left on his contract. I'm hopeful that he will ask for a release sooner rather than later to have a homecoming of sorts @ the world famous Wests tigers. Here's hoping anyways.

If he can’t make the Wallabies side we don’t want him. I reckon I could get a start at the moment!!?

? ? The gap between club, state & country is no big leap…you should be fine Steven.

Think Rona will definitely be on the market sooner rather than later.Cheika has boxed him in as a Super Rugby player..no more and no less..with a long line of injured players well in front of him…and he really didn't take the opportunities when they were presented.
so barring a miracle(and a bunch more injuries...or fighting with the spectators!) hes unlikely to wear the Wallaby jersey again
No point in sticking around any longer in Rugby IMO
Having said that,Rona had a very average year for the Waratahs, but hes certainly way ahead of anything we have in the centres excepting Marsters..and we are very desperate now Kevs gone(we may have been so when he was here!)

You know your backline is weak when loosing Kev Naqaima causes desperation.

well we are down to 4 teams, so unless any further signing are coming from the top 4 sides, were are the reported signing that we were told would come once there team was knocked out of the semis. or was that all bull.

Who told you this precisely?

If you are quoting THE POM, then you are misquoting, because he/she in fact said:

Don’t expect anything till the season ends. Majority of targets are still contracted. Things will make sense once announced & if we can get these 2-3 good names over the line.

Alright, so one was Matterson. But the season doesn't end for a few weeks yet, and even then, players / managers / staff will be on holidays etc. and not necessarily finalising deals until they come back for pre-season around late October / November.

Tigers should sign Patrick Mago from the Broncos. He’s a beast of a bench prop.

I totally agree and also should have a look at Patrick Carrigan and Thomas Flegler, the Broncos can't keep them all. One from the storm Tino Fa'asuamaleaui, 18/19 yrs old 197cm and 107 kg one for the little black book.

Flegler is a gun very similar to De Belin, an development player we should be looking at is Nesta Watene from Brisbane Norths who will playing in the GF, an 18 year who outclassed Fifitta in the QLD Mal Meninga GF earlier this year.

There are some good players running around in Qld cup that, the tigers should have a look at. You never know we may find that Diamond in the rough that we are looking for.

Apart from cap money
Is there a limit on how many players we can sign
Is it capped at 30 players

Hypothetically
If we have 28 players now and sign 3 more it puts us at 31
Do we need to offload a player or can we have 31 on our books

The 30 players is the limit for your NRL squad - you have to have more than 30 players on your books to cover NRL, ISP, Development players. From NRL site you have to name a 24 squad by November and then have to March to name at least a 29 man squad. You must have 30 by June. The NRL are considering making all clubs publish their 30 squads. Could be interesting to see who is playing where but is on someone elses books.

You’ve got your opinion on what great service is and I’ve got mine.
I’m not going to say your wrong because it’s your opinion.
I can’t honestly say he was a great servent to the club, he had little to no competition for spots out wide for most of this season or the previous 3.
He had good games just as many as he did bad, that’s what you call inconsistent.
When Kev declared he was heading out the door I didn’t see to many people up in arms about not resigning him.
I’ll try and be more humble for your sake if that helps, maybe you should think about raising your expectations a little.
The attitude that inconsistent players are great servents to the club proves you have grown adept to this losing culture.
I’ll decide for myself who I believe has been a GREAT player for the tigers.

Well said. But like the majority of the forum I guess I’m a bit impatient and wishing to hear of some additions to our squad sooner rather than later.

Was watching controversy corner last night and the Nathan Cleary stuff came up. The comment was made “why would he go to the Tigers, who have nothing, when he can stay at Penrith with all its facilities and huge junior breeding ground.” It just made be realise not much has changed yet. We are viewed by most as a dead end. Our facilities are poor, we are nomads, our roster is pedestrian and we are not connected to the big end of town. We used to have a successful junior development program and I’m at a loss to explain what has happened to that.
Our current policy is we won’t play overs for anyone, therefore we will not attract high quality prime players.
Get used to the Oliver Clark, Paul Momirovski type signings folks - that’s all we’re gonna attract imho.

mate we the most or one of the most popular clubs in Sydney.

Did you see the pathetic crowed numbers this final series.

If players are not smart enough to see tigers are good for their brand and we are a club on the rise there not much we can do.

I would err towards not listening to what journos have to say regarding what is important to footballers, because they are journos and not footballers.

According to the recent news the NC situation isn't about facilities anyway, it's about his mates and team camaraderie. You know, the thing that used to matter to James Tedesco.

Second point I'll make is that any journo that suggests a huge junior breeding ground is a positive is being foolish. Sure it might mean your team is made up of good young players every year, it might also mean those same players are pushing you out the door as you get older and slower. But if junior catchment was an issue, how do Roosters recruit so well?

Oh money. Bugger facilities and junior development, money talks. Money and relationships. No footballer will turn down top dollar simply because the new club doesn't have shiny dumbbells or those weird feet glove things.

Tigers have the same salary cap as everyone else, we can't be out-spent on salaries. Soon enough we can't be outspent on support staff either, so that just leaves TPAs and training facilities. We due for our own centre of excellence in the next few years, and Uncle Harry already tipped in for a new kitchen, so we aren't far off a decent upgrade at the Tigers. Maybe not comp-leading, but I'm not hearing anything like Manly with coach supplying his own tables and chairs.

And anyway you are being defeatist, you don't know that anyone sees us as a "dead-end". Players come and go, different people have different opinions about different clubs.

Mbye, Grub, Matterson, Adam Blair, Gareth Ellis - Tigers can make higher profile signings if they flash the cash.

To the post above…. The Salary Cap is there, but some clubs are spending millions more than others due to the quality of their TPAS.

Roosters also have no juniors but they attract players based on their location and the fact they can pay a bit more with TPAs. So its not really even.

Yeah I am being defeatist and pessimistic as well. I hope as much as anyone that we sign a couple of stars. I’m just reflecting on the reality as I think others see it. We are not a preferred destination it would seem so if we don’t deal in third party agreements ( we don’t have the connections) or if we don’t splash the cash (we have said we won’t pay overs) what incentive is there to attract quality players? We mainly get youth looking for a chance, ISP players looking for a chance in first grade or someone discarded due to age. Sure, occasionally we will snare someone special but the good clubs have 8, 9, 10 + players like this in their squads. Look at the teams left and count the high profile, quality first graders and then compared to us. Yes we are improving but honestly, how long before we have a squad like roosters, sharks, Melbourne?
