Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Johnson is on $800,000, Benji is on about $200,000 & we still have Reynolds. Cant see us signing Johnson.

If I was Madge, I would be trying very hard to get Benji to retire, save his $200K and go hard for Johnson.
Having said that, we still need a couple of big angry hombres first.

Our biggest problem retaining Brooks is one Issac Moses. While Brooks has him as his agent we are up against it. As for Shaun J vrs Brooks, I would take Brooks,SJ has probably peaked, where Brooks is on the up. Maybe room for both, but I would think SJ will try and get a gig a top flight club with a real chance of winning the big one

Have the days gone where the player told the manager what to do?

Signing Johnson would be a waste of money imo, he's just Benji mark II, hot and cold, not consistent enough for me. Plus he's not getting any younger.

I’d take the gamble on Johnson. Get rid of Reynolds back to Canterbury.

Johnson is electric. Big fan this way. Plus given we already have some kiwis, our coach is the coach of them, don’t expect to see a few more join the ranks.

Johnson has peaked but can still have exciting games that win a game but that is now mixed heavily with injury and inconsistent performances

It was stated 10 days ago in the retention/recruitment thread that

"Our recruitment will be finalized and will immediately follow on the resolution of our Coaching situation."

That sounds like Maguire has 2 or more players on standby ready to jump on board.

Does he have a close relationship with any players who might be (or become) available?

Pretty sure one of the spots that to be filled is a development player. That would take us to 29, and we don’t need 30 until next June. Don’t get too excited.

Wouldn't be expecting much in terms of new blood coming in. If anyone was to come in I'd prefer a middle forward that isn't a plodder.

Think the essential is a centre. Although Madge would have been at Storm with Mahe so might stay with him. In general a 1st year coach with only 2 spots will need time to know what he needs unless he has someone in mind

The club announced around 5 re-signings since it knew Cleary was going to leave.

Absolute joke. Should have waited for Madge to come in…

no wonder we are a basket case club, the 3 development kids really not up to 1st grade and well the other 2 are cover at best. would rather we had brought 2 decent player with there money.

I don't have a problem with Mikaele and Smith. They're both very talented juniors who might see some first grade this season. We need to be trying to unearth talent which involves giving guys like that a shot. Mikaele is a middle forward and our squad is short on middle forwards. Smith covers fullback and wing - again, positions we needed to cover with depth. McIntyre I'd rather we not have signed to the top 30\. We already have a stack of 2nd rowers who can cover the centres, we should've used that spot for an out and out centre signing. I think that's a wasted roster spot.

Farah? We needed another hooker. I'd probably rather we have gone after Segeyaro, Koroisau or Luke but whatever, at least it's a position we needed to sign.

Marshall? We needed a backup half. If not him we'd just have had to find another backup half. That roster spot was never going to be a marquee signing with Reynolds and Brooks on the books for 2019.

The bottom line 13 of your 30 are depth signings who will play most of the year in Reggie's and that's where these kids will learn there trade

Brooks will re-sign with us. He’s very happy at the club.

Tigers will have to be careful here .. if there is any talk that Maguire is interested in Johnson .. Brooks might get itchy feet and want out .. ??
