Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The only player we will have a market for will be Mbye. Matulino May be medically retired and possibly Reynolds at a highly subsidised contract. That may free up close to 2m
Matulino 650k, Mbye 750k, Reynolds maybe 300k. Releasing Lawrence makes the difference 300k as the long player discount is spread over the cap.

We can really improve big time bringing in liddle, Talau, Seyfarth, Smith and McIntyre when we inevitably are out of contention.

Titans another team with cap issues. Only $100k in their cap for the 2020 season.

I read Ryan James is in the outer. He is a grub but I rate him strong guy and a leader straight swap for Mbye. He’s from the Goldy.

Phil Rothfield revealed the Sharks are over their cap for 2020 despite letting a number of young players go recently, including Jayden Brailey to the Knights and Kyle Flanagan to the Roosters.

“The Sharks are already over the cap for next year and they haven’t had an off-season,” Rothfield told Controversy Corner.

“Paul Gallen is not on a lot of money this year so his retirement won’t help. He had his big money contracts earlier in his career.

“So they don’t have a problem this year, but they have lost Jayden Brailey, Kyle Flanagan and Gallen is retiring and they are still over their cap for next year.”

Rothfield revealed the Sharks are paying half their cap for next season to just six players.

“Shaun Johnson, Andrew Fifita, Aaron Woods, Wade Graham, Josh Dugan and Matt Moylan, if you add their penalty of 350k they take up more than half the cap,” Rothfield said.

“Then you have another 24 players to feed.”

If they are over next year how come they are not over this year. Those players are still on their books this year as is Gallen who won't be counted in next years cap. It can't be backended contracts because the NRL stopped those. Am I missing something or has the NRL just turned a blind eye.

Upgraded Nikora, Xerri, Blayke Brailey and I think Uele, Gallen is on not much apparently, and some of the others have price rises built in to their contracts

So surely the NRL wouldn't register those upgrades until they become cap compliant.

Don’t be surprised if Moylan reunites back with cleary at Penrith. He tried to sign him at the Tigers if I remember correctly.

In the same way they were non-compliant with the cap 2015 and 2017, but not the premiership 2016.

@jirskyr every time somebody says that is a nail in Greenburg’s Coffin tbh, how ridiculous is it that 99.9% of the entire (generally lesser socio-economic background) RL fan base can tell that something is amiss there, and that the NRL effectively tried to distract us and save their bacon by fining us over a small print error that was NEVER, ever going to give us any competitive advantage n was common knowledge in just about every single Journo circle that’s Turdo is known to frequent.

I really am still shaking my head that it was all handled so poorly and in 2019 too!

We are supposed to be operating smartly now & making a profit, really some hard questions do need to be asked n assessed of Pascoe By the actual year’s end I’d say... Madge won’t be impressed dare I say he may have his own preferred candidates moving forward 😉

That should be the case, but they turned a blind eye to the cap so the sharks could keep their 2016 premiership

I keep seeing Papenhyzen's name, is there any inside info behind this or is it just a suggestion.

I would love to see him in the orange and black again, kid has a lot of that X factor the tigers have lacked since Tedesco

That’s like saying Nathan Cleary is from Newcastle, not close at all.

Any Melbourne fullback would do.

More wishful thinking from the forum.

That's funny I thought Nathan Cleary was from Ulladulla. Or was it Bathurst?

@tony-soprano tbh I'm not the biggest Jahrome Hughes fan, I think he just looks good in the Melbourne system playing with Munster and Smith

The other kid who made his debut last week was solid, but it's only one game can't judge too much of that performance

However, with Papenhyzen it's easy to spot his talent he would be a huge get imo kid has pace to burn

Was more trying to make a correlation between Penrith and Newcastle but take your point on board!

Yeah good point mate

Surely the Heinz kid gets picked up somewhere.

Like to see more of Walters too.

@tony-soprano yeah the kid looks like he can be a regular first grader that's for sure!

Walters from what I've seen looks to be a solid player, like the look of him tbh hope he gets a crack
