Like any potential employee with Latrell don't we need to find out exactly what the problems were at the Roosters and why there seemed to be issues after the SOR?

Great player but there seem to be underlying issues that have to raise doubts that we should clear up before jumping in.

I'd love to see him here but would also like to know why he was unhappy at Easts or the same thing could happen @ Wests Tigers.

If it did, it would be a distracting and unhelpful environment and further delay chance of premiership success for a number of years.

I have seen so many times in business where a seemingly real 'catch' has been made only to find out that the other competitor couldn't wait to get rid of them for various reasons so in effect no catch at all.

Players/coaches not seeing out contracts always raises a red flag in my books. Signing them up without finding out what really happened, their current circumstances or how they think would be a massive mistake.

If we want a new fullback, Brimson @ 500K is better than Latrell at 1M. Latrell would be worth it at 800K, maybe even 900K (risky), but no way is he a million dollar player.

If we want a new fullback, Brimson @ 500K is better than Latrell at 1M. Latrell would be worth it at 800K, maybe even 900K (risky), but no way is he a million dollar player.

100k could be the difference in retaining some of our lower and mid-tier players. Guys like Alex Twal, Luke Garner and Thomas Mikaele are on peanuts now, but will command more money in their next contract.

Smart move from the Roosters. If they're going to lose him then better to move on quickly while there are still plenty of quality options free to be signed for 2021.

Sorry, I don't follow? Is Mitchell only on $450K at Easts?

Sounds like he or his manager believes he is worth $1m and the Roosters don't or can't. Letting him test the market probably confirms the $1m or so, hence the Roosters pulling the deal for $800k for a two year extension. Not sure what he was on in 2019 and 2020 and even if the offered upgrade kicked in from 2020 or 2021 but he can see he is missing out on a lot of money

It's different from Matterson as we hadn't offered an upgrade

From Latrell's point of view taking a deal elsewhere will deliver him significantly more dollars for 2021 and beyond and even more if he moves in 2020, which sounds likely. If he did, he's at least $600k better off on a 3 year $3m deal, even if he was going to be on $800k in 2020 which seems unlikely, so it's likely even more than $600k over 3 years

It's an important contract for him and I don't really think a two year extension was an overly respectful offer

He should take it and go now if he can get $1m a year and I for one hope he does get it and that it's from the Tiges

Actually, reading further, I do think he is on $450k in 2020 and the Roosters offer was $800k for each of 2021 & 2022, then he would be $950k better off if he took $3m over 3 years starting in 2020
That's why this is a thing, the Roosters had him at $450k per year in 2019 & 2020, it was mentioned in the recent SMH article (for what that's worth) and actually lots of places
