I’ll tell you another thing about Madge. There’s not another coach in the nrl could have got us to within a whisker of playing finals footy.
To those who think we can’t win the gf in 2020, did you also have that opinion in January 2005?

2005 had a golden crop coming through.

A ball playing Origin class FB.

A great, big, winger in Richards.

A top class GK.

One of the best halves pairings of the decade.

If you can see all that being possible in our 2020 backline, then I'd suggest you rush down to the TAB.

LOL, don’t need more fertiliser for the garden Ellery ?
Well.? Did you think they could do it in 2005?
Gotta admit I honestly thought they were the snowball in hell personified, that is until , I think it was round 15 against the Broncos. Broncos had racked up a decent score but late in the second half the Tigers played like they hadn’t played all season.
I’m just saying it’s far too early to write them off before the first ball is kicked.

2005 we also had a Kangaroo class young 9 coming through. 2020 we have....no 9.

Not being negative, I just hope people's expectations are realistic and we do not get a dozen 'sack Madge' threads a week.

IMO , with a few injuries in the backs, we could finish bottom 2.

But it will not be the fault of the current coach.

I’m just saying.. in January 2005 truth is none of us could have expected the year to end the way it did. The whole story reminded me of an American football movie called “The Replacements.” The only thing missing was the smoke hanging out the side of Pat’s mouth.
The 2005 grand final victory is spoken about in the inner west in legendary terms. Not because the Tigers had the best team but because they didn’t. But each player knew their job.

Everyone knew their jobs but we had the most exciting footballer possibly ever, with an incredible ability to create something out of nothing. We had marquee talent. People doing their job + marquee talent = success.

Who was the marquee talent that we bought in 2004?

What does it matter when they were bought, developed or shipped in? We had marquee talent and we won a comp. we won’t win another without it. Maybe Talau will do what Benji did - who knows? But at present we have money but can’t attract marquee talent so ‘come on Talau‘

I think if we were to somehow pick up AD for FB and JAC is out of the question I think we should look at BJ from Raiders. They are trying to sign there big 3 guys currently and need to get funds so would be a great time to approach. He would have the incentive of playing with his brother and feel Madge would help get the rubbish out of the game..

BJ would be awesome
Rarely gets tackled one on one.im surprised in the lack of interest in him

1 Douhei
2 Addo-Carr
3 Leilua
4 Momo/Mbye
5 Nofoluma

I can see many people on here still giving it to the club for not having a major signing yet....I tend to sit back and wait until something positive is released by the club, when that is,I don't know...
From seeing what is going on atm,I honestly believe that Madge and co don't want to make the same mistakes like in the past;I also believe that with so many young guys in the system atm,Madge seems to want to create from within..I remember when we had some great young players when Sheens was here and he got that legend Gareth Ellis to the club, that was great...maybe Madge is working on the same formula as it seems to work for us...just my opinion though...

The biggest mistake is to do nothing, even a poor mistake is an attempt to fix the problem we have. But saying this, we just need to limit our exposure, spending $500k to attempt to fix a significant hole is in my view, worth it.

Doing nothing fixes nothing

Matulino, McQueen, Reynolds, Packer and Jennings can be classified As our recent costly mistakes. And for me we can perhaps add Mbye and Taylor to that list. Having Smith and McIntyre also clogging up our $s and top 30 list sure begs a question ...... how many costly mistakes can we afford to make.

Firstly I think Matulino was value and not a mistake, and it was only injury that brought him to a premature end , however he is part of the reason we have surplus now.
I agree McQueen and Reynolds were mistakes, however only because we paid too much.
Packer and Jennings, may turn things around this year, as Packer was very good in 2018, and Jennings had no real preseason in 2019 and both looking a lot better for this season.
Mbye, also had a good season 2018 and seemed to be carrying an injury last year, but was still good enough to play Origin.
Taylor has been good for us for many years, stayed loyal, plays any position which is required, and always give 100%. One of our best defenders.
As for Smith and Mcintyre, they are not clogging up our $, there on minimum contracts, were part of our developement program, and who knows may step up this year, I say give them a chance to prove themselves.

However to spend $500K on AD I would think ok, but if they decided not to , I would understand that as well. Getting the new forward from Parramatta, and JAC would be more of a priority, and having one more place unfilled may benefit us in June.

I love bjays aggression and ability to fend players off but it comes at a price he gives away so many penalty’s and missed half of last year through injury he could turn out to be another signing that we end up saying what were we thinking he is getting old to

Agree with all you say about possible improvements and all those players may prove us wrong this year. And I know that the club was desperate at the time to improve our roster. However my point is high $s for them and Mats (who the club knew was high risk medically) is a mistake we should not repeat. All I’m saying is that I support the club in their current approach to recruitment.
As far as Smith and McIntyre I realise they are not on huge contracts but they are taking spots without really showing any improvement on the paddock in the past 12 months. Now they are young players and nothing would make me happier then if they have breakout season. But on current form they are just making up the numbers and I would be happier if they were on CC contracts trialing for NRL places.

THE Wests Tigers are considering reuniting the Leilua brothers, with Luciano declaring it’s a “100 per cent option” for older brother Joey to join him at Concord this year.

Mad.

Lucy man, already proving to be a good signing & ambassador for us. Outstanding

Leilua, JAC + Stefano please & thank you

Edit: I forgot about Douhei - either or TBH

As long as BJ steers clear of all and any fireworks it should be fine

Otherwise it could become a eyesore...

I shall now show myself out

Sign BJ and then jump at Rapana who will be available a few weeks into the season at a cheap rate to form the Wests Tigers version of Leipana

A few weeks into the season? BJ will probably be suspended by then. Didn't he miss most of last season with a neck injury?

Cant find a reason why I wouldnt like BJ to join his brother. He creates points , he is still only 28 and playing with his brother would be inspiring im sure but he doesent really need it he always plays well. I know he has the odd brain explosion but he does way more good then bad and while he was injured for a few games last year think he has played 19 plus games every year for 10 yrs before that. Lets be honest if he played for a glamour team he would have played 20 origins by now
