I’ll tell you another thing about Madge. There’s not another coach in the nrl could have got us to within a whisker of playing finals footy.
To those who think we can’t win the gf in 2020, did you also have that opinion in January 2005?
2005 had a golden crop coming through.
A ball playing Origin class FB.
A great, big, winger in Richards.
A top class GK.
One of the best halves pairings of the decade.
If you can see all that being possible in our 2020 backline, then I'd suggest you rush down to the TAB.
LOL, don’t need more fertiliser for the garden Ellery ?
Well.? Did you think they could do it in 2005?
Gotta admit I honestly thought they were the snowball in hell personified, that is until , I think it was round 15 against the Broncos. Broncos had racked up a decent score but late in the second half the Tigers played like they hadn’t played all season.
I’m just saying it’s far too early to write them off before the first ball is kicked.
2005 we also had a Kangaroo class young 9 coming through. 2020 we have....no 9.
Not being negative, I just hope people's expectations are realistic and we do not get a dozen 'sack Madge' threads a week.
IMO , with a few injuries in the backs, we could finish bottom 2.
But it will not be the fault of the current coach.
I’m just saying.. in January 2005 truth is none of us could have expected the year to end the way it did. The whole story reminded me of an American football movie called “The Replacements.” The only thing missing was the smoke hanging out the side of Pat’s mouth.
The 2005 grand final victory is spoken about in the inner west in legendary terms. Not because the Tigers had the best team but because they didn’t. But each player knew their job.
Everyone knew their jobs but we had the most exciting footballer possibly ever, with an incredible ability to create something out of nothing. We had marquee talent. People doing their job + marquee talent = success.
