Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Just read an old tweet from Dean Widders. Looks like Doueihi has good character and leadership qualities. I’m convinced. I think character and ability combined is important given our recent experiences...“Was at Souths yesterday helping deliver their media training and was very impressed with their young players. Cameron Murray, Campbell Graham and Adam Doueihi are terrific young men. Great leaders for our game. Excellent on and off the field”

Reynolds is not and will never be a hooker. His service from there is terrible.

Maybe he will do well in the role because he has had all off season playing there. You are correct though and it doesn't look promising.

He's just not a dummy half. It sounds strange given he's a 5/8 but his passing just isn't up to it. Benji stepped in with almost zero practice and was a million time better. I think Mbye would be the better option but it would be nice to have an 80 minute hooker. Chee Kam and 3 big guys on the bench would be good to watch.

Tigers trainer told me yesterday Billy Walters is most likely to start at hooker. He's first pick ahead of JR , then Mbye.

Thats correct. Must remember that he arked up about his contract at the perfect time when Teddy, Woods and Moses had left the building. Used Parra as a bargaining chip. Coach tried to stop the rot and get a good news story going. That was resigning Nofo long term on $450k a season. Another example of desperate spending. Madge has corrected that which will take our club forward.

Good luck to him but I look forward to our young wingers displacing him this year. This would be a big win for WTs and it's junior development pathways.

The same pathways noffa came from?

Exactly but these players are better. Too slow for the wing and defence is not good enough for centre or fullback.

Id like to see Billy have a crack. That being said, where does that leave MBye, as BJ and Momo would be our centres (assuming we land BJ), AD or Corey at fullback. Momo is not a winger, so if hes not centre hes left out.

I almost wish we didnt have MBye.

Starting to look like we have too many outside backs!

In that case Momo is the one that misses out imo. Mbye and Leilua would be an excellent centres pairing.

Totally agree ... but would still rather have Mbye at fullback.

Maybe Madge sees Momo as a winger. With the new no mid air tackle rule on attacking players perhaps he sees a need for height in that position?

IF we get AD and JL someone from last year is going to miss out.

Will it be up-and-comer Momo? Or big earner Mbye? Thompson or Jennings? Seems like there's no space for Reynolds either...

This isn't necessarily my opinion but I wouldn't be surprised to see Madge go with:

Doueihi
Nofo
Leilua
Mbye (GK)
Jennings

CT and Momo to miss out.

No, he's not quick enough and it would be a waste of the assets he does have. He's got 5/8 skills so you need to have him in from the wing where he can utilise his evasiveness in space and his passing. He's got a good football brain which helps him perform better than what might be suggested by his size, speed and strength. Wing is all athleticism - not too much opportunity to use a good football brain there.

Hopefully commonsense will prevail and Madge will choose Thompson before Jennings. Jennings did nothing last season to hold a place in the starting line up for the beginning of this season, imo. Thompson always gives his best.

Yeah I tend to agree with you. But Madge seems to like Jennings for some reason.

Momo has 5/8 skills? Where did this narrative come from lol

From his having played 5/8 as a junior and in the lower grades at Souths and from watching his play at centre?

People put too much weight in where a player plays at junior level. If he was any good it would of transitioned into first grade.

Even though we are discussing speed in our backline and who would provide it,I cant help but ask who is going to distribute the ball form dummy half in a fast and precise manner....it starts from there and flows along the backline,we know what happens when we get slow ball from dummy half..

does anyone have an update on Liddle and do we think JR pending will be DH or Mbye.?

Ziggy you make too much sense.

thanks mate...it beats arguing just for the sake of it...

I guess that the club is going to once again hedge their bets that once Liddle is fit he'll be right. Simpkin will be in the lower grades plying his trade, hopefully he is the real deal.

What I was asking CB,if Liddle isn't fit to start which he definitely wont be,do people think the hooker role will be Mbye or JR to start in rnd one....

I would think JR will be the starting hooker if fit and is allowed to play by the NRL.

In my opinion, JR didn’t look at all comfortable playing hooker last year.

He is an effective runner from dummy half if there is a quick play-the-ball but his passing from the ground is ordinary at best. He also doesn’t seem to engage the markers nor does he bring players on to the ball. The other concern has to be his body over a full season. Will he be able to handle 50+ tackles a game? The evidence of the past two years would seem to suggest otherwise.

I think Mbye is the better option and if he plays well, he would have to be an outside chance of playing hooker for Queensland given they have manufactured Hunt into that role in the past - so there is incentive.

I think you have to put Mbye there. JR can play off the bench and get 20 minutes a game or something like that and we can see how he goes.

Either way they are both makeshift hookers and neither are very good at the role. We really needed to have sourced out a specialist rake, imo. It’s too important a position to be throwing centres and five eighths in there and hoping they will perform.

I understand that we desperately needed to bolster our pack and backline, but not chasing a specialist hooker while we had the cash this off season is a very odd decision that may well come back to bite us.

Momorovski was a junior 5/8. Bloke I worked with coached at South's and introduced me to his mother who is a love ly lady

RJ starts our sets off well. The rule change affects CT - Jenko is taller & safer in the air.
